Wouldn't these people have to be an FMF distributor to get the exhausts at a wholesale price in the first place? I don't see how they can buy them from anyone else and still make a profit at that price. Why doesn't FMF require a contract with their distributors that their items be sold no less than a certain amount? Anyone who sells it for less is in breach of the contract and are immediately terminated from their list of authorized FMF retailers. STIHL has a price lock with their outdoor power equipment. It's the same price at every dealer around. Therefore you buy on dealer service and satisfaction, instead of price.

I believe price fixing might be illegal in some forms - not sure if they can make retailers sell for a set price. That is why things say suggest retail price. If a retailer is lowballing a price for a product, the manufacture can elect to stop selling them product at wholesale but they can't make them sell for a set price. It is all about free enterprise and capitalism.

The moto shops are already having a hard enough time staying in the black, why not encourage distributors to only sell through authorized moto shops.

Support a shop that at least has retail outlet, even if they also sell online is what help keep moto strong

How does Apple get away with it then?
Apple owns a bunch of their own stores - they can sell their product for full retail if they like.

The margins on apple product is very small so dealers do not have much to work with when setting prices. They almost have ot sell close to retail to make any $. Phones are way discounted if you sign up for a contract. Yet you still have to pay tax on the retail price.

Thanks for your concern and comments, we are aware that FMF Racing branded products have recently begun to appear on the Sears and Wal-Mart Marketplace websites - offered by a third party. This is similar to third party posts on Amazon and E-bay.

We do not agree with, nor do we endorse, this manner of advertising and selling of FMF Racing products. We are looking into this and consulting certain advisors and other professionals to resolve the matter in the best interests of loyal local dealers, nationwide wholesale distributors, and all FMF customers worldwide. So not one guy in here has been in a new town and see a guy wearing an applied racing or pro taper shirt and walk up to him and say hi, back in the day you could identify other moto heads by them wearing something you could only get at a shop, like extreme back in the 80s.

I was at a party once where I didn't know a lot of the people there so I just hung out in a coroner for awhile to try and get a feel of the place. I finally saw someone wearing a Whitesnake "Good to be Bad" 1987 tour t-shirt, so I went over there to strike up a conversation. That dude was a giant piece of shit, turns out the mother fucker didn't even like Whitesnake. Apparently earlier that evening someone spilled a wine cooler on him and the guy that was throwing the party pulled that shirt out of his rag pile in the garage for him to wear. So I guess I can see wear Motodork his coming from.

Kid out of Phoenix I think his name was Chris or Greg, I think he practiced out by queen Creek near Gary Rd before development. Crazy I remember more about what he said about his practice track than anything, it is almost like that is all I heard.

"posers"

Classic.

So, FMF puts a deal together with a clothing company that's been successful at getting clothing sold & that makes them the Bad-Guys?

Dude, YOU are the Poser.

"I seen"...Bwahahahahahahaa

Idiot.
Didn't we go through something similar to this last year with the whole who can wear Volcom thing?

Hell if it grows the sport and puts money in the hands of the racers let's brand some more stuff and sell it.

If I had a small shop, I'd put them, FMF, on the back burner.
Sure, still sell their stuff, but no stock anything, or push anything they make.

Especially if I had a rider or 2 out there that I supported.

Why should I advertise a product that is going to be bought from someone else?

No, either I get a break in price from the distributor so I can compete with Wal Mart,
or the guy that's bleeding the pipes to Sears get's his price increased so I can compete,
FMF becomes an expensive special order from me.

Nothing personal, it's just business.

Isn't that exhaust like $1,500.00 retail at any other place? Shit, I'm down with saving 400 bucks.

I'm all about supporting dealerships but that's a fking deal! Laughing

Glad someone gets it, as someone that has been dealing with the moto customer in many ways for over 20 yrs(must be doing something right) I have seen no loyalty in any way, you can give a guy free bikes for yrs because he "races" and then he will drive 30 miles to save 10 bux on a helmet. In a truck that cost more in gas to get there and back

This is not price fixing. The retailer is allowed to sell an item at pretty much any price they choose to do so. The problem comes in when they advertise openly that they're discounting an item by so much. Many manufacturers/distributors have a Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) policy that dictates what price can be shown. Think back to the old magazine ads when shops had "CALL FOR BEST PRICE" for the price of certain products. That was to get around the policy. You can talk to a customer and agree to sell it at any price. When you advertise, such as on an online marketplace is where things get messy.

It's part of protecting brick and mortar shops. But in an increasing global marketplace, it's becoming more difficult to do that for retailers. Online shopping, and selling by discount instead of service is becoming the new norm.

I think you can get a ninja 300 through Costco. Maybe other kawis as well?
How do you think a guy that has worked as a salesman for a long time feels about this? The ones I have spoke to hate it and tell there customers a kawasaki ninja 650 is made in Thailand and the Yamaha FZ6R is made in Japan, so it is worth spending a little more to get a Japanese made bike. That was the dumbest thing kawasaki has ever done, most shops carry several brands and no true salesman is going to push a kawasaki product for fear of a friend or relative telling there customers about Costco. Bad dealer relations, burn the guy on the front line.

Most items like cars motorcycles etc. are marketed through Costco but the local dealer is credited for the sale,it is discounted from what they usually sell for at the dealer.Pay at Costco but pick it up at the dealer. Costco and the dealer share in the profit.
I sell some stuff through Costco,we have lower margins but it does get the name out there.
Buddy of mine bought a Jeep through Costco, picked it up at the local dealer, saved some money doing that way.
In some cases it is plus business for the dealer, selling to a customer they might not normally see.

If that is the case is is. It isn't trickling down to the sales guys. This one guy told me he spent months with a customer, teaching him how to get a motorcycle license, were to go to take the riding school, and spent several hours a week with the customer because he came to look at his new bike all the time only to has his grandmother mention Costco at a family dinner the night before his last riding school day and he was getting the bike, let's just say he will never push a kawasaki again, and that used to be the number 1 he pushed. Cars are not bikes, why do people compare the 2 industries? The are completely different in every way
