1. for 2013 he did VERY little off season testing due to his injuries
2. for 2013 he did VERY little off season training due to his injuries
3. he was definately ill during most of 2013, that impacted his riding ability
4. for 2014 he was healthy pre season and did a lot of testing and setup
5. he didnt get on with the 2013 Honda (due to 1, 2 and 3 above?)
6. he is comfortable on the 2014 Kawasaki
It is NO surprise at ALL that 2014 is a better year but just because the Honda didnt suit him and the Kawasaki doesnt does NOT mean the Honda is a POS
Of course if he was on a KTM he would be leading the points, but I disgress :-)
I think it was David Bailey who said he thought it would take Yamaha a few years to get it as good as the other bikes, seems like they did.
Chad is just more comfortable on the Kawasaki than the Honda. That is ok, there is probably a lot of top guys that prefer one bike or the other.
Reed brought his "A" game this year
Pit Row
Dunno what is really behind that? Bad luck, injuries, bike issues, poor Corporate decisions?
So Reed is having a better year this year. An infinite number of factors are involved and it would be, in part, due to him being able to set up the Kawi to suit him better. Does that make it a better bike than the KTM of Roczen, Villo's Kawi or last years Honda? Possibly - but the difference could be down to a fraction of 1% . . . in just one area of the entire setup.
Last night Reed rode in a clinical fashion where everyone racing had to be careful to not do what Cole Seely did. He was better than the others by .05 of a percent - and got the win. Did the others get a "Ass whoopin'? NO. They're freakin heros just to do a lap of a track like that at speed and just lacked the little something to be right at the front. Setup, fitness, luck, attitude, looking at the years as a whole . . . and possibly just a tiny bit, a very tiny bit less of just one little thing.
But that's all it takes . . . to win or come second . . . or third or tenth.
Reed also has an amazing group of people around him on that team that have that Kawi running & handling topnotch.
He looked amazing in the whoops - rarely did we see any swapping from him like the other bikes out there.
He was all dialed in and used great settings.
