I've raced in the Dominican Republic several times but at a different track. My experience was great and I didn't encounter fans on the track like the video Jeffro posted. My how things have changed.!!! I won the race my first time there (mid 80's) and it was an incredible feeling as security guards and track personnel had to clear a way for me to get back to the pit area. Each team had a fenced-in cage where they were pitting out of. My pit area was surrounded for an hour after the second moto. I gave every piece of my gear away before the crowd started to disperse.

Everyone I met on both my trips were very respectful and would go out of their way to help us any way possible. On both trips, the crowds were estimated to be around 7,000. I'd go back on a moment's notice if they had a Vet class. RIDE ON !!!

Do you think Jeff feels like trouble follows him around? Like everywhere he goes bad shit happens and he's a victim of the universe?

Then again, damn, he must have some seriously big gonads to race in an environment like that. AND to pick fights. Fuckin crazy.

Does anyone care to give us an account of what actually happened before we systematically crucify Jeff on the Internet again? How does anyone know what actually led up to that other than Jeff?

Honestly man, I don't think there's a reason to crucify Jeff even if the end result was Jeff being a little malicious (not saying it was). Worse things have happen in our sport that we let slide.

I guess I misassumed that the risk wouldn't be worth the reward since they were racing on a crap track in crap conditions. I didn't think there would be much to be made in that kind of race.

Mad props that Jeff lasted that long...Go back and watch the ladder parts of the moto. He is getting pelted by shit, look at the track, all the shit on it from being thrown.

If your talking about the race after Jeff got passed he clipped the back wheel of Mejia is what my wife told me. She said it was pretty ugly and figured he banged his shoulder up good. She stated it looked like a mob scene him trying to get to the ambulance after the wreck.

It was my sons first time racing in the DR and he was scared to death that someone was going to clean his clock. He is not a beginner but this was his first race on a big bike (TM125) and his first race in about 8 months. He had a blast and said the track layout was cool and was happy with his riding but he never knew if jumping over the tabletops if he was going to clean anyone out or not.

Hope Jeff heals up I don't wish Moto injuries on anyone.

Jeff should have picked that dwarf flagger up over his head and thrown him at some of the other idiots around there. Then gone full Gladiator on them. "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?!?!" I would have enjoyed that. I bet they would have had some kind of animal you could have fought for a better gate pick or something. Something to think about the next time a dwarf swings a flag at you on an island.

Yes I hope they took him to HOMS in Santiago and not into Moca or La Vega though. The incident with the gate guy was he wanted extra practice laps and the pee wees where on the track at the time. That was stated my Mejia on FB just about 30 mins ago.

who gives head is the race director in my country, the practices had ended for us. but jeff wanted to keep practicing and one on the track but the pewee were and is somewhat dangerous to have these 2 kinds of bikes on a track

Google Translated^^^^ not my words

The wife did say though that the organizational skills there would make the SRAC of Colorado look like an AMA event though if that tells you anything.Whistling

Think he said he was just practicing starts, was that wrong? guess a lack of communication ( Differant language) is the problem here

Racers race and the promoter probably made the experience sound like it was going to be like racing in paradise.
I am sure the allure to race down there for some is the fact that many old pros or not wanted pros have no other skills.
So getting paid to do the only thing you know is why they race in such conditions,I am sure if they had better opportunities they wouldn't be racing down there in such shitty conditions.Crazy stuff for sure.
I have been to DR,Costa Rica ,Panama and I found the people to be really nice,of course I wasn't racing, just riding and being a money spending tourist.
This is the correct answer.

You go with the best intentions; I wasn't paid to race but it literally didn't cost me a penny except for my lunch in JFK airport on the way there. Got to experience the country, the racing, I was told it'd be crazy by a friend who had went but being naïve and just seeing it as a good life experience I went. (wish I did a little bit of research on it though bc I was caught a little off guard by the donkeys on the track and barbed wire fences) I don't regret it one bit, did I love every second of it? no. Was it what I thought it would be? not quite. Was I ready to leave the minute it was over? yeah. But its an experience most will never get, who else here has raced on an island?

Life experience is reason enough, cool adventure.
Yep. 212's answer is more than enough to make sense for me. Been there, done that. Ive raced in many far away countries and while there are a few I'd NEVER go back to, I dont regret going at all.

Speaking from experience, it's not just the $, they have beautiful women who literally can't wait to get your shaft in their mouth. No bullshit, if you saw some of the pic I have from my trips around the country/world, you'd shit a solid gold brick, it's shit movies are made of. I literally had to pinch myself while some friends and I were playing WWF with these 4 women, in a suite in Guatamala that we didnt even have to pay for! Sorry I got a little side tracked, racers go there for good start $, women, and just the experience in general. I mean imagine you and 4-7 of your best friends on the planet, being really young, in a foreign country getting paid to ride a dirt bike....the memories I made with my friends/fellow racers over the years, is something we talk about often and is priceless to me. So for all the people giving Jeff a hard time about going somewhere like that to race, we all die one day might as well live it up! IMO anyways!

Oh it's there (was there). We had to drive in next to the railroad tracks, I used to practice my shitty wheelies on the very far south end of the property.

My buddy wadded it up pretty good on the "big" double they had, I had fun every time I rode but only rode about 7-8 times back in about 92-93?

Old-Man, did you run the #320? or was that Carleson?

#638 must have been Carleson. Yeah the track was along the tracks which you had to follow down to get to. That double next to the tracks was cool. Then ya hit another jump right after.
I tried to triple all them at once but slammed into the third...Grinning I blame it on not enough take-off out of the corner but I never heard of anybody clearing it?

Come on down Old Man I have a spot for you we might have to find you a bike though. I hope to make it to a race sometime this year I haven't seen my little guy ride in one for a few years now due to my work schedule ( in fact I think the last time I saw him was in Brush, CO 2 years ago). Oh well I get to see him practice this weekend in Puerto Plata and just seeing a 2 smoke turn laps puts a smile on this dads face!
