I honestly don't want to be "that guy" BUT I'd rather not get into the details of how the agreement between myself and Motorsport Products is set-up....legally I hope you understand where I'm coming from here.

I can say that they are selling well for how new it is. I think once the 2014 Parts Unlimited catalogue comes out (which the stand is in) it will really help boost sales. Maybe it's me and my wishful thinking but I tend to think this will be kind of like a snowball effect type of thing....the more that get out there, the more people will see them and their usefulness, the more people will go buy one for themselves.

Thanks!
Yeah I don't want to you to spill the beans and ruin any relationships, I was just curious as to how well they are selling. Which at this point they seem to be doing great, and I hope it only gets better in the future for you and your awesome product. Goodluck!!Cool

Thanks man, I appreciate it!

I do know that several stands were shipped to some dealerships in Canada which is pretty cool. The stands are also IN-STOCK and available in Australia through Sherco. I was also told that it will be set-up with Parts Unlimited Canada soon......now, just hopefully it shows up in Parts Europe :-)

Very inspirational story MOTO120! What really convinced me this was a viable product was the "How To" video. Very cool how the stand first attaches to the grip and then auto-levels as the bike is leaned down.

Can you disclose where the stands are made? IMO, the price is reasonable and curious if overseas manufacturing was necessary to hit that price point.

Oh yeah, since you're a 3D designer, can you recommend a reasonably priced 3D CAD software package (something for less $$$ than SolidWorks or Inventor)?

Don't forget, sportbike guys need to change clutch plates and might be another market to target.

Just to be clear and honest, the stand doesn't actually "attach" to the bar whereas you just hold the stand at the same time of holding the grip (ideas crossed through my mind about actually attaching it BUT I didn't want the stand to come back-up with the bike when raising the bike back upright).

As you probably guessed, to keep the stands within a reasonable price point, the stands are made overseas. I'm not wanting to starting the "it's shit if it's not made in the USA" type of thing, it is what it is (I enjoy buying "Made in the USA" as much as the next person....don't shoot the messenger haha).

Sorry, don't know of any reasonably priced 3-D software....I use Creo for what it's worth. I would really like to try my hand at SolidWorks because it looks like it can do some really cool stuff (and as dumb as it sounds, I just really like the style of images it creates).

I haven't :-). Dual-sport bikes are next on the list with possibly more street oriented bikes after that. One thing you gotta realize is that, sure I can design it to accept any style motorcycle (or snowmobile) BUT that motorcycle THEN has to be lifted back upright. For example, I can tell you that my 60 year old dad would NOT want to be lifting his 400+lb. KLR 650 back upright.

Which sportbikes need clutches that often? I've been road racing for years on middle weight and heavy weight superbikes, and have never needed a clutch.

very very cool. i too have always feared ripping my grips or dinging my bike while laying it over on my stand to wash underneath. your product looks like great quality too.

i've always wanted to come up with some grand idea/invention, i've had a couple great ideas but they were already claimed by someone...

pressurized bladder for camel-back (looked into getting a patent but it was taken, 3 years later the pressurized system was released)
Fleshlight (again, already taken)

Appreciate the additional info! And no bashing from me for not being U.S. made. Sadly, if domestically produced, almost impossible to be competitively priced.

BTW, nice GT UB2 in your Avatar! Cool

This is a cool product.

For the guys in fear of ripping their grips on their stands. Didn't anyone teach you to lay the bike onto the stand at the lower triple clamp bolts?

Very cool man! Glad you got it rolling. This is a very smart idea & I will be ordering one. I just had to lay bike over last week to change something (right after I changed the oil), so this will come in handy & of course I wanna support one of our own.

Cool story, some people don't understand what goes into bringing a product to market.

Just ordered one from my dealer here in San Diego! It's shipping from a PU warehouse in NV. Should have it next week!

Awesome idea! Can't wait to use it! Gonna be perfect for changing the oil on my KTM as you have to lay it down to fill the oil filter cavity.

Sweet!

Best of luck in your endevor!

Definitely will save your grips!

Wonder if it will be a fling like the boot bunny was. All the factory teams had them and now I don't see them as much. But I like the idea. Really cool. I would buy one if I wasn't budgeting most of my mx hobby.

Moto120,

I messaged you my email and would like to get some info from you. I've been pitching an idea for a year and would love some insight.

Thanks.

i have a question, i run bark busters. is there still a way to use your stand?
1/24/2014 3:35pm Edited Date/Time 1/24/2014 3:36pm
What load can it carry? I could use one for my 950 adventure but laying it sideways a 450 is a featherweight compared to it.

Absolutely!!! Look at the very first picture on the first page (the 3-D computer model...the upper most picture), you can see that there is a recessed area near the end of that black assembly (what I call the grip cradle)....that recess is meant specifically for this stand to be used WITH bark busters installed.

I should have mentioned this earlier....thanks for bringing it up :-)

Honestly, I'm not too sure because I have yet to take one all the way to failure. I can tell you that I have my CR 250 laid down AND then I stood on my bike (I weight another 155 lbs.).....it didn't budge. Kind of common sense, but the lowest the bike can be (the stand is adjustable) without the foot peg touching the ground is the most stable it will be. Meaning, if you don't need the stand in the upper most adjust position, lower it as far as you can.

As I'm sure other who have already commented on this thread that have the stand will agree, this thing is built STOUT. That was one thing I made sure before production was that the stand would be built how I wanted it built.....I wanted people who purchase this stand to honestly say "Wow, this thing is a real quality piece of equipment"!

I remember when your scooter made bike of the day awhile ago. I saw your product and instantly loved it since I have paid the price of a bike falling off the box stand. So glad to see your idea finally out to buy. I'm sure your going to make some money from this great invention. I will be buying for sure. Best of luck to you man!

Awsome. As I near my military retirement I want to get into this type of stuff but have nooooooo idea where to start.
Any plans for more products?

Hmm, the bike is 420lbs (dry) with 5.8 gal tank so filled is about 465lbs.
(189kg+22kg=211*2.204=465lbs Not added oil, weight from luggage, navigation, etc so it's actually a bit more)

But looking at the design i don't see how it would fail under that kind of load. Might pick one up if i can find a EU retailer.
Your invention is perfect for my kind of bike since the thing is heavy as fuck so planting it on an unstable surface is damn risky.

If i get one and it performs as expected i will send you a pic of it in action, might be good exposure as proof of sturdiness. Wink

Nice piece but my mexican hand can hold a bike for that price almost 6 months,a piece of hickory will suffice the other 3 months.

I'm thinking he's not getting a commission off each sale; I am assuming in usual wholesale/manufacturer business, he makes the product, sells to a distributer (Parts unlimited) and then P/U puts it in their catalog. Retailers like Rocky Mountain and BTO then add it to their online catalogs, buy a "lot" of the item from P/U, keep it in their warehouse to tell to consumers like you and I.

Good thing I went to college for business...without it, I couldn't have explained that (Sarcasm...)

You definitely "paired" with a great company. I still have stands from Motorsport Products that are almost 10 years old and have held up great ( I think we all have found out how long a cheap stand will last). Brian Fry at Motorsport products is a first class guy and a true motohead himself.
