As SX evolves, its becoming apparent that the longevity of a riders career is increasing. Age and treachery will always beat youth and enthusiasm they say. Going by CR's win against a stacked field at A2, riders better take a long term goal strategy. Could put MC's record on the line too.

I'd say mc's record is safe for the next decade or so atleast
Then you have riders that aproach it diferently. They work hard to but they enjoy it. They enjoy the circus, the media, being at the races, etc I would put here Chad and Ken for example. I think this last group is more prone to having a loong career.
But you can really tell from the start. Chad was probablly in the 1st group till '09. 2010 changed him completely.
I thought his reaction overall was kind of odd. He was obviously estatic, but also seemed very emotional and the thought ran through my mind that he was killing some time while his emotions settled down and he didn't want to pull an MA on camera.
Let me be clear, I hope this is NOT his last time to the top of the podium, but it just seemed like he was spending alot of time breathing it in.
Think of it this way.......lets say both Stewart and Reed do a bunch of winning this year ( which I don't think will happen either )......but both hit the magical #50. That leaves them both needing 23 friggin' wins to BEAT MC's record!
That's 2 years of pretty much ass whuppin' domination....and at their age.....I just don't see it.

and as some others have said
I hope not . It gets rather boring knowing who is gonna win
.. it also seems like we at sorta a peak of
talent right now .
I know there are still good amatuers coming up
but I could see that thinning out a bit in the coming years.
Compared to what we have now and have enjoyed
for the last 3 to 5 years.
Everts 10 world titles might well be broken, but not the above two.

Assuming a guy's motivation stays the same and high, I think whether age comes into play depends on how well a rider manages his health and injuries early on. Both Reed and Stewart have done okay in that regard, and, as well, took fairly extended times off from racing (unfortunately the outdoors) during some years. He and Stew also are a bit in common in terms of taking time off when things aren't playing out well health or bike wise.
