Dare I say the Yamaha looked like it handled the best?

It sure looked like they had Brayton's suspension dialed big time!

We all noticed it in our circle here too as we watched Brayton push it. But let's remember it wasn't broke before right?

No doubt!! Braytons bike looked solid in the whoops and looked like a Suzuki in the corners! Something must have been right.....he kept pace with RV and RD!

One race could possibly be a fluke. I hope he can back it up this week. I'm a huge Yamaha fan and hope they got it all figured out.

On the other end of the spectrum, KTM seems to have stalled on their suspension production. Dungey just doesn't look comfortable on his bike.

Handling includes turning. Have y'all watched Bubba in the bowl turns?

I thought that before I read this post, his bike went threw the whoops better than anyone elses for sure.

They did do a switch from Showa to KYB this year.

I agree. The highlight was the whoops but the turns looked at least as good as others where as the current opinion is that the new design has flaws, ie "Yamadive". Perhaps the '14 performs at least as well as others?

I read somewhere that RD5 is the only one using a coil shock....everyone else is using the air-shock. I can understand why Ryan would be hesitant to try it again but I think another year of tech on the thing should make it more reliable.Unsure

RD sure looked good thru the whoops last year when he was using the air shock.

Last week, after A1 Kenny said they switched his to spring after one practice session at A1.

Actually, I think Dungey is the only one on the air shock, now.

pretty sure Dungey only ran the air shock once last year. the night it failed. I dont think he turned any laps on it outside of practice/qulaifying.

He most certainly has not used one this year.

We thought it looked great too. Not just handling, but power.

I noticed it after I caught Brayton leaping out of a corner when Dungey was right behind. It looked like he hooked up great and the bike leapt forward noticeably, gaining a length or two on Dungey.

After that I got to paying more attention and the bike looked great all around to me.

I was thinking the same thing. I was even going to go so far as to say that the YZ was substantially better...because frankly...Brayton is not neck and neck with RV. I think that bike was phenomenal.

#1: The whoops. We all saw that, and it should be no surprise. YZs are known for stability, and they are designed around the best mass produced suspension there is. The new Yam 450 is also the most powerful stock 450 built. At 58 HP...the team is not going to need to pump HP up much more. What they are going to do...it take that ample power and spread it around for a very broad rideable range. High HP...across a broader range. I am sure that with JGRs capabilities...they have complete gear boxes with all variety of ratios to custom tailor things. I would be surprised if there were 5 speeds in that gear box...

#2. The flat sweeper and inside lines on flat 90s. While not as good as RV...he was still damn good...and RV is THE flat turn master. In the flat 90 leading into the whoops...JB was actually faster. This was shocking. It is because JGR really has the KYB stuff dialed? Chassis geometry? I would love to be a fly on the wall and know what JGR has done with suspension geometry, etc.

That bike looked amazing...

Yeah, the Yamaha looked way better handling than the guy on the kawi who went from 10th to 1st in one of the most stacked fields of all time.

I don't understand why everyone hates on the Yamaha. Have any of the people on here who say they are crap actually ridden one? I have a 2011 and I don't have any complaints about it. The suspension is especially good considering I am under 150lbs and can feel comfortable on it. Not to mention Yamaha has the best EFI tuner available to the public and is at a reasonable price. We also got ours for well cheaper than any other 450, and have not had any issues with it. They have a lot of positives going for them and very few negatives.

Are you aware that you just compared a bike to a rider? Tell us all how you ride Ryan to get him to handle.

I noticed the same thing too. I also saw him gap (within reason) RV on flat straight section and felt it was worth a mental note watching the broadcast. I was hoping Yamaha would have more presence this year, it would be cool if Brayton could pull something off similar to what Millsaps did last year.

If you could ride at the speed of the top 5 you may change your opinion.

How exactly would you know this? You must be pretty damn fast. All I'm saying is before people go bashing a certain bike, maybe they should ride it themselves rather that go by what some keyboard warriors are saying. Just my opinion. . .

I'd hazz at a guess the 14 model is quite different to the 11,

if it works for you....fabtastic, but this thread is about brayton on a 14 that seems to be a much better bike

What impressed me the most is how far Pirelli must have came with their tires. It wasn't long ago that there was a lot of hesitation when talking about the hard pack tire just not getting the traction quite as well as a Dunlop. It sure looked as though it was tracking great this weekend, on what looked to be a very slick track. Even the BTO team looked like they had great traction on those tires as well. Short's bike looked like it was stuck to the ground during that semi. It's impressive to see the progress they have made in a short couple of years with the two teams using them.
