I guys. Just wondering if anyone has got the chrome blasted off their PC pipes to give them the "works" look. I tried getting this done however the end result was the pipe looking like it was painted with gal paint. It looks horrible!! I thought the blasting guy could get it back to bare metal but apparently that was the best he could get it. It's for a1996 cr250 and these pipes with a works finish are really hard to come across. So for now I'm stuck with this one. Any help would be great, thanks

You're going to need to get a cpl of those foam sanding blocks. Get a rough one & a fine one. Sand the pipe down to the raw steel look & then take a torch to all of the welded area's & it will look fine. I've done it many times.

I can do it for you if you like.
I have an acid / stripper bath for removing plating.
Once it is stripped it I would thoroughly clean it and then heat treat the welds.

Here is a KHI works pipe that was rusted.

This pipe was plated. I stripped it in the acid / stripper bath, thoroughly cleaned it and heat treated the welds.

Where are you located and what kind of prices are we lookin at? I have an FMF gold series for an 03 CR 125 I'd like to have done. No dents, very minimal dings less than the size of a dime.

The easiest way is to strip the plating off with a 30 to 40% muriatic acid solution. If you're not a chemist, just take your pipe to
your local chrome plater. They have the baths to strip the old plating off and will usually do the job for a small fee. Once the
plating is removed, you'll be down to bare metal and you can then simulate the weld discolorations with a torch.

I've got a DynoPort pipe that I've cleaned up and am ready to heat treat the welds... I'm not a welder and am no expert on fabrication, so advice on this?? Will a propane torch work, or is something hotter required?? Is this a process that's pretty hard to screw up; or best left to someone who knows their way around a torch?

718 is persona non grata around here, so I wouldn't be expecting a response from him. That said, I'm sure of our upstanding moto brothers will have some thoughts on your pipe.

If a fuel/air torch is all you have, get a can of Mapp gas. Much hotter than propane and you can use your existing set up.

From the horror stories i've heard. it is in your best interest to NOT, REPEAT NOT, send ANYTHING to 718. There is a pretty good chance you will not be getting your parts back.

This thread has some info on how to strip plating http://m.vitalmx.com/forums/Moto-Related,20/FMF-Factory-Fatty-RM250,1309636

Also I used a butane torch on my stock yz250 exhaust after using an angle grinder to remove the paint. Photo doesn't do it justice but welds came up nice and blue. I did a better job on the wife's yz125 pipe but don't have any photos
