A mid 1930's Indian Motorcycle on tonights "Bonnie and Clyde" on The History Channel, A&E and Lifetime. first time a show has premiered on 3 channels.

This bike was very backwards to me. The clutch was left foot operated, forward to dis-engage, back to engage. throttle on the left hand. Timing adjustment worked like a throttle on the right. Brake on the right foot and it shifted by hand on the right hand side.

I learned all this, 5 minutes before filming, on a dirt road, playing a motorcycle cop that comes up on Bonnie and Clyde. The owner was right there watching and was very nervous I was going to dump his pride and joy. It certainly was a pressure situation.

If you get a chance to check it out, I am the stunt double that doubles Clyde (Emile Hirsch) Car crashes, fights and gun play. It sure was an awesome show to work on.

For the haters, save it. I already know. "Cool Story bro" "Stunts is a dumb career" - I have already heard it here. Smile

You have heard that here? I missed that, I always thought you never got anything but that is fucking cool remarks. Mainly because that is so fucking cool. Performing Hollywood stunts, really, Is there not a cooler fucking job?
I didn't know a 1930's Indian was that complicated. I always thought it was just the left hand throttle thing. I tried to imagine riding it. lol sounds like a bitch. How did the clutch work? You had to have constant pressure on it for it to go?

The clutch- if you put it all the way forward with your toes it was like holding the clutch in, but you didn;t have to hold it there, it would stay. So, you push it forward, put it in gear with your right hand, give it gas with your left hand and then use your left heel to push back on the clutch and feather it out while giving it more gas to not kill it.

I was sweating bullets as I was thrown onto this thing as a "motorcycle expert". I was doing something else in this movie and was thrown into this spot because of the bike. I learned it in just a couple minutes. All eyes were on me and I was nervous as could be.

I saw some of those at Barber Museum this past spring and was puzzling over how riding that mechanical layout was.....lol.
I love those old bikes but they look sketchy as hell to ride.

The clutch looked like it had a double pedal.
Here is the clutch side of a 35 Indian at Barber.....was it like this?

Here's a 1930 Indian Scout where I think it is the same kind of shift/brake set up.

Regis.....do you remember " Friday" that used to post here? Actually as I was typing this , I was going to ask if you had ever ran into him on set.....but he wasn't a stunt man I think......but he was in some really cool car commercials. He was a good dude.....not sure what happened to him. Also.....what about David Barrett ( Spelled right?).....him and his family used to own or run Mamouth mountain I believe didn't they? He was really big into doing stunt shoots as well if I remember right. Believe it or not , that used to be something I really wanted to do when I was younger.

Brian Friday did start out as a stunt man. He just moved into acting as a natural progression as to getting older. I haven't talked to him in a while but he won the 40-45+ class? at REM this past season on his KTM450.

yeah, I have met Brian a couple times. Cool guy and moto to the core. He still rides.

David Barrett produces and directs now. He was a great stuntman. He actually gave me my start in my career when I was still a pro rider. He stunt coordinated that Disney movie "Motocrossed". I stunt doubled a couple the riders on that but mostly just the girl that rode.

I am close friends with Stanton Barrett, David's brother and professional stuntman / Nascar driver.

And yes, the Barrett family is directly related to the Mccoys (David and Stantons G-pa) who opened and owned Mammoth Mountain for years.

When I was a kid on 80's, David Barrett showed up and rode 125cc pro one year and was putting it to the field with an open face helmet when they were obsolete. He was a hero up there and one FAST local. I still remember wondering, "who is this guy".

I talk to Brian Friday all the time, he has been getting into more acting jobs recently.
He post's on the Proride message board all the time.
He's a good guy, goes fast on a dirtbike with his fused wrist too!

I can't think of anything cooler than being a stuntman! That's been my dream job since I was a little kid. It looks like a cool show and now I will definitely check it out to see your stunt work.

wicked ride there Andy,

I know guys that race classic road racers and will ride bikes back to back with throttle and shifters on opposite sides, i have no idea how they can do it, I can't even get used to a road race race shirt pattern which is opposite to a motocross set up,

The guy who made that drop in terminator 2 on that Harley was a bad S.O.B !!! what a cool job you stuntmen have .

Back in 1977 my dad raced a 4 stroke ccm, and won on it. shifter on the right side, and pushing down upshifted... needless to say if you got into a panic, it was double crap

Andy , MxJerf and Cyg.....good to know Brian is doing well. I admire the jobs Andy and Brian have done. It was a dream job of mine to become a stunt man and I just never made it happen. That's also really cool to hear about how well David Barrett is doing now days. I remember reading back in the day in cycle news about how David would basically only race the big races up at Mamouth....and do extremely well , by beating a lot of really well known fast dudes. Call me jealous haha!
