CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - Fifty-five people were arrested over the weekend at a motocross event in Indiana.

Indiana State Excise Police said 20 people were arrested on 23 charges on Friday, and another 35 people were arrested on 37 charges on Saturday at the AMSOIL Ironman Grand National Cross Country event in Crawfordsville.

Most of the charges involve minors illegally possessing or consuming alcohol. That accounted for 16 of Friday's arrests and 28 of Saturday's arrests.

Other charges included possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and false informing.

More than 10,000 people were at the event, excise police said.

Authorities have been cracking down this year on underage drinking at concerts and other events

Yep - they'll ticket you & even arrest you if you are under 21.
Minor in consumption/possession.
If you get caught providing any kind of booze to someone under 21 you can go to jail for a while also.

I'm still at the airport in Indy after spending the weekend at the GNCC and did not see anything that eluded to this report.

I did here there was some drinking going on in the woods near Ironman hill but nothing excessive and certainly no signs of police force in the main areas.

I think there will be a great racetrack there next year for the National and applaud MX Sports effort at the GNCC.

If they arrested people for underage drinking over here pretty much everyone under 18 would be arrested every weekend. Grinning

You can thank MADD for that. Thanks to their lobbying you couldn't get federal funding for your states Interstate system unless the drinking age was raised to 21. I know since I was raised in Wisconsin.....I believe the last state to hold out on raising the drinking age during the '80's.

That would be Louisiana. You could drink at 18 until 95'/96'. WI went to 21 in 1986, same as my home state of MS. I could legally buy beer (It was 21 for whiskey) for 2 years and the day after my 20th birthday the minimum age went to 21. Funny how you remember stuff like that.

Yeah, but most kids drive at 16 and many have their own car, so it is a give and take.

While I think it would be unfair to cover your countries with a derogatory blanket statement, I feel pretty safe in saying the both of you are asshats.

Outside the US, the military goes by the local drinking age. Here in Japan, it's 20, so that's how old the military guys have to be to drink legally on base or off.
Personally, I don't like the idea of lowering the drinking age to 18 just because there are too many 18 year olds still in high school. Yes, I know you can join the military at 17/18, but at a minimum you have to have a GED, i.e. not in high school. Lower the age to 19 or 20 and I'm good with it, but I just don't like the idea of bellying up to the bar next to a kid doing his/her trigonometry homework.

Couldn't just make it illegal to bring alcohol onto school grounds? Here in the PRC, no tobacco of any type is allowed on school grounds.
