At the moment to complete six laps at the Hattah Desert race in Australia.

It is a 8 x 38-40km per lap sand race that takes the Pro racers close on 4 hours to complete.

Have completed 5 laps twice, was probably close to being on pace the first time I competed in the full Iron man race but a puncture on lap three cost me a good ten minutes, this year in my second attempt at the full race I came in way to unfit, not training or limited riding leading up, the final two laps were torture.

My number one goal for riding next year is to get six laps completed, only get lapped twice! Just for the record less than 20 riders out of over 200 that start the iron man class have finished on the lead lap in the past two years.

Last year the last rider to finish on the lead lap was none other than Ben Townley in his first attempt.

It's incredible how fast the pros can lap riders. . . Almost demoralizing. But since we're all out there for fun I don't get too worked up over it.

I've never broken a bone in my life and every time I leave the track in one piece, I'm feeling pretty good. My weakness is going race speed for an entire race. We race 1 hour and one lap 4-5 mile races.
I raced a national Vets 30+ race earlier this year on a sand track, Cheyne Boyd who was running near the front (around 5th-8th) in the Pro Open class at selected rounds earlier in the year raced the vets at the final round.

His lap time in qualifying were within the top three of the pro class, he is a bit of a sand specialist.

As I said at the start of the day, If I could just make up 3-4 seconds per corner I would have had him covered lol.

Being on a track at the same time as a pro really does blow your mind on what can be done on a dirt scooter!

Having Fun.

I'm 50.

Getting out there on my new Fo'Fiddy is soooo much fun.

It's a WHOLE LOT BETTER than goin' to the Gym or the Fat-Fram (Both of which are where my fat-ass should be!).

I'm jus' sayin'...

I've gone full circle from just wanting my first bike and enjoying riding to wanting to be able to run top 10 (did it ), to winning a moto(did it), to winning the points for the year in my class(finished 2nd twice but never got the #1...lol), qualifying for LL's (did it this year in the Master's class!), all the way back to just being damn happy to go out riding whether it be a race a practice or trail riding. So I guess to sum it all up the number one goal to accomplish is having fun and I've done it and plan on doing it a whole bunch more right up to the day I can't sling a leg over my scooter anymore! Cool

To be able to sprint (my sprint pace) for 3 hours ( full 100 mile hare and hound). No arm pump, no blisters, no leg cramps...just ride all out for 100 miles...and be able to function after the race.
when you figure it out, share your secret with me will ya?

Always told myself my ultimate goal would be to throw a small but legitimate whip and race a local intermediate race without getting last (keep in mind I didn't really start racing until my 30s.)

I'm nearing 40 now and it doesn't look like I'm going to achieve my goals. Although I haven't given up hope...(don't laugh)

My goal was to throw a whip, so after a day of small but decent little whips in August I decided I would go for a big one, so I threw it out super hard but couldn't get it back in time and landed sideways, swaped back the other way and slamed to the ground. Knocked myself out and broke my collarbone, then had surgery with plates and screws and feeling much better now, needless to say my goals have now changed, I now just appreciate a safe day of riding.

I'll never forget as a kid going to the Washougal National and the Seattle Supercross and thinking to myself that my dream was to be get an AMA pro number and to race in a professional race. Didn't care if I ever qualified or if I was the highest zip code guy just to be there is all that I wanted. Looking back maybe I should've set my goals higher.. 1997 AMA PRO # 936

Your my hero man.

Biggest regret I have in my racing career was not turning pro and qualifying for Washougal. I think I could have at least did that and I could have hung em up with no regerts. Just one time qualifying for a National would have been the coolest thing.

Good job pummel

To be able to ride today and work tomorrow. Lots of missed work due to mx injuries. In fact, it hurt my career in my profession. On the mend now from another accident, but cannot wait to ride again.

Hey man, let's get a better look at that RM250! Looks like 01' - 03' vintage. Nice bike! You should throw it into the bad ass 2-strokes thread.

1. Keep gaining overall speed, gain confidence to huck bigger jumps
2. NEVER try to ride injured again.
3.Ride until I'm to crusty or broken. Hopefully past my 50's
4.Stop looking at new expensive gear, mods, graphics, boots, helmets etc etc that I dont need and use the money to ride!
5.Teach my wife and daughter to ride someday

Really though. That first time you full out seat bounce a steep little take off coming right out of corner is a pretty cool feeling. Huh

Hit the nail on the head. Mine was to get my pro card and try my best to qualify. Coming from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan we didn't have any expectations, National caliber tracks and we had to battle snow 6 months out of the year. I tried Millville, Red Bud in 2012 and Tennessee, Southwick, Millville, and Red Bud in 2013. Came up short at all of them, but it was a great experience. My greatest goal was to be able to walk away. 2012-13 AMA PRO #470

to not get off the bike until I want to. ie: not unexpected eject. I'm usually one of the slower guys on the track but what makes it fun is to always try to be a little better than the last time I rode. to be healthy enough to look forward to riding on the coming weekend. someday rail a rut.

Up to about age 40 we were riding and racing quite a bit. Kept about 8-10 bikes at the ready at all times for me and the kids. Since 2005 all that changed with business and kid stuff taking us different directions. Now, just to actually make everything else stop and get in an actual ride day more than once or twice a year would be epic....

Rip a holeshot on a 40 rider gate...
Hit the first jump wide open...

While in mid-air and to the delight of the assembled masses--- toss a "cross-up" to the crowd...

High-5 everyone walking through the in the pits with a 3' tall first-place trophy in hand after the race...

Grab a Big Mac and fries at McDonalds on the way home...
