RD cracked me up when he said they should sound check chainsaws. On the subject of sound the bikes to my ears sounded good even though they were pretty quiet....didn't sound like farting through a straw to me.

Have you been to Bercy SX ?? I was lucky enough to go with TFS back in the 90's. Some clown behind us in the stands had a chain saw going the whole time (no chain but still) and his buddy had an air horn, never have I ever been so pissed being at a dirt-cycle race, just ruined the whole event for me. They shouldn't be allowed, especially in doors.

they dont have chains on them, but regardless yea, they wouldnt even let you in thats for sure, in fact you might even be escorted out by some guys in blue.

It must be a tradition in center europe, down here not so much. One year a clown brung one to Bellpuig and really pissed me. Call me crazy but I like to hear thoose fine tuned motors Dizzy . Was so happy the damn thing broke! Smile

Europe is a whole different animal! At the Italy GP this year we stayed at the track in a friends "camper" even parked in the riders camping area. The general camping area had to have been close to a 1/2 a mile away and lets just say they take noise makers very serious in europe!!!! Wow! The sound a 4 cylinder sport bike makes being flogged off the rev limiter for minutes on end was crazy, however the fact the bike made it threw the night was flat impressive. Being woke up at 2:30 am to a R1 going full tilt with no muffler was a experience for sure..... night number 2 we all had ear plugs in. Smile

Around the track you can watch many with chainsaws (chain removed) wearing a specific country flag as a cape and just having a blast. I will say most of them are not in full party mode by end of moto 2 on sunday Wink

Don't they realise folk go to watch mx for the peace and quiet?

Pesky euro's. It's a good thing you and the rest of the 'Fun Police' where their to give dirty looks and shake your heads disspprovingly.

We were stood on the bank by some crazy Italians and Belgians. They got petrol disc cutters, chain saws with no exhausts and even trumpet exhausts, air raid sirens. all going flat out before the motos and when ever there rider's were on the move.

Such a good atmosphere but ears were ringing!

Then the camping is always pretty wild. Bike & car engines in trollys with no exhausts just being held wide open. The huge beer tent was at capacity by 10pm ish so they have riot police keeping people out....until everyone decided to turn them over. Shortly after, the wooden dance floor was smashed up & being set on fire!

Did you go to St Jean in 2011? Bunch of Germans or Belgians had built some monster of an engine with vertical 4/5ft long exhausts coming out the top of it. They must have spent the best part of 5 hours each night just sitting there revving the tits off of the thing, flames popping out of it, the lot. It was ridiculous! Smile

ernee in 05 was the worst i have wittnessed with all the chain saws and bikes reving till about 4 in the morning then luckily it started to rain and they all went to bed so the noise stopped luckily i had a huge 12 man tent with a big domed section in the middle so me and my mates and a few welsh lads parked up next to us took our chairs inside and just sat around talking mx and having a few more too many beers

That was pretty cool!

I've been in both Ernee and St Jean ans I have to say french fans go pretty wild at night.

In '11, when I woke up in the morning there was a drunk dude slepping in front of the van soaked in the rain! Crazy, thought he was dead or something but he got up and went back to his camp haha

It gets old dead quick now , and the fact that they dont properly seperate the campers from the partyers is a bit of a pain.

Earplugs are a must if you want any sleep, or just have enough beer to get you off, but i have to be honest , chainsaws are lacking in originality, been done to death ... move on .

I was there in 97 when this pretty blonde turned me down when I asked her to dance. What year you think that was when you were there with TFS? :-)

Saw Ratt and Bon Jovi in concert and man they were freakin louder than any dirt bike. It was a lot smokier in there too. Smelled better though, lol

i was at unadilla this year and was so disappointed in the crowd. it was real quiet, you can't even get that close to the track and the banners ruin the views. sucks.

i wish i saw something crazy like im seeing here lol

I dont know about a few of you.... But i would love to go to a race where the fans are loud as hell and constantly cheering... chainsaws and all... Sounds like a far more fun event, than our american way of being overly fucking quiet....

It's funny i went to a world hockey tournament, of teams from all around the globe. and the euro fans/ south america fans knew how to cheer... americans well um clap... needlessly to say but i was dissapointed in our lack of enthusiasm

yea, im sure you'll feel the same way after hearing a chainsaw at full tilt 5' from you for over 2 hours. im sure of it.

Ernee 05 was just plain crazy. I did not sleep a minute from friday morning untill sunday evening. There was so much noise it was just crazy. I saw a guy who had a big V8 engine in the back of his van. The thing was not attached to anything. It just was build into a frame and they always fired it up in the middle of the night.
Then there was one guy who had rebuild an old fire extinguisher. He had a big airhorn attached to it and he stood on top of his camper and sounded the thing the whole night. It was just like the fog horn of a big boat. It was just hilarious.
Then finally, on sunday i wanted to get some sleep and at 3 AM some guys decided to have a race of their own with their dirtbikes. They used the remaining campers as corner markers. My camper was brand new and i really was afraid some drunk idiot with a dirtbike would smash into it. Luckely it did not happen.

I always noticed that it were the Brits who knew how to party. In Ernee in 05 a lot of Brits were there and they kept going all night. In Namur the "Le Chalet" café was famous for its British fans during the GP. So i went to Matterly Basin in '06 and i really was bummed. That place was completely dead. After 11PM everybody was asleep. There was no fun at all. No idea why.

I agree, the sound can get very annoying. Especially if you want to get a few hours of sleep. But i'll take the atmosphere and ambiance of a night like in Ernee '05 over a dull night like in Matterly Basin anytime.

After watching the MXoN races over the years I know we all expect the air horns and noise and silliness. I think the trend that is bugging me is the huge flags. Now don't start beating me down about being patriotic to your country.. It would be boring without that. BUT, if I got to the track before the sun came up, found a great spot to sit (and stand) for the day and was content, and someone parked in front of me with a huge flag blocking my view I got to the track at the ass crack of dawn to see, I would be pissed.

Speaking of unwanted noise, I hate when some turd runs his ultra loud generator in the pits all day and you can't even carry on a conversation. Usually it's on so little Johnny can play his Xbox all day between motos. One jerk pulled up late right next to our awning and pulled his loud ass generator around behind his trailer with the exhaust pointed under our tent and got pissed when I turned the exhaust away from us. I use a Honda EU2000 to run fans and the fans are louder than it is.

I don't like unwanted noise IE generators, speakers too loud at public venues, nimrods in cars with heavy bass etc but none of these activities are subject to public scrutiny like our passion of MX is.

Remember the old saying "children should be seen and not heard?" The best way to stay off of a person's radar is to not be heard....or if that is impossible keeping a low profile being as quiet as possible is a good policy.....or instead you can just be clueless and put on a loud pipe.
