Welcome to last week. Smile

In the same Instagram pic where people first spotted Fox boots, you can also find Nike logos on his helmet.

Lol. That's funny. It's either that or they're done building one off boots but they still find value in sponsoring a guy like Dungey.

Of course, their primary exposure came because Dungey was wearing the boots. Who knows really?

I thought near the end of the outdoor series, Dungey made a comment that he wouldn't be wearing Nike boots anymore? Maybe I'm dreaming that. It's interesting that JS7 is still wearing Nike boots in his recent photos.

Those boots were horrible anyways!

Any of you old guys remember that Airwalk took a stab at MX boots back in the 80's?

Nike's attempt was a cool markeing tool, but I highly doubt they ever had any intention to make and market MX boots. Just not enough ROI for a company that sells slippers with a 200% profit margin.

Not to completely hijack this thread, but damn that jacket on the top right is awesome! I'm guessing those are for team members only, and will never be sold?

6.0 is no more OC, Nike merged the struggling off-shoot with NikeSB. so its only gonna be the swoosh for Dunge and Stewey, unless they take up skateboarding.

@chapmanmx...those hoods are badass. gonna go check @foxhead now to see if available.

So Nike allows high profile athletes to put their name on a shoe and build it. Why wouldn't a guy like Dungey or Stewart want to promote the boot like the Air Jordans?
9/24/2013 7:57am
I think maybe you're looking at this the wrong way.

Nike doesn't "allow" as much as they solicit. It's a win-win. Nike benefits from being able to market a crappy shoe at an inflated price to millions of sheep, and the celebrity spokesperson gets a cut as well as improving their own name as a brand.

I'm sure Stew and Dungey would both stoked to be a part of that elite group, but getting a signature line is ultimately not their call unless they want to do it themselves. In the end, Nike just doesn't see the return for selling maybe a couple thousand pairs of boots.

As someone who has had the good fortune of visiting the Nike campus in Oregon and getting an inside peek at the R&D that goes into each product, is unreal. For example I was shown what I can only describe as a giant box (think XXXXXXL paint booth) that could replicate any weather condition imaginable. Want snow? BAM it's snowing. Want to replicate a humid RED BUDD day? No problem. Inside they could bring in multiple pieces of exercise equipment to test product. Treadmill with artificial grass, bike trainers... Nike hires exercise science professionals (college graduates) to do research on not only product but athletic performance that later gets published in medical journals. Something not one moto related company can say. Is this important? Absolutely, when you consider the marketing that goes into selling a product. How many times have we read how a helmet has X amount of vents for massive airflow. Yet there is no proof to substantiate the claims. No side by side comparisons in a wind tunnel to measure flow. The only company that I would say comes close is Oakley.

Exactly. How would they recover the cost involved in the R&D, let alone the endorsment contracts, by selling a couple truckloads of boots? They'd have to cost $2000 a pair, and even then I doubt they'd ever break even.

A venture like this can only be considered feasible if the costs are folded into a cross-promotional effort for other products.

Maybe this marketing experiment has run its course.

well you cant break even if you never sell them to the public but maybe they never planned to or they didn't get the response back like they might have been expecting
