I'm a huge fan of Formula One and have been all my life. I love everything about it, especially the works technology that they fully exploit. I love the international flair of the series and the national pride and emotion shown in the faces of the drivers on the podium every time they win, no matter how many times they've won. Every event is like a MXoN and I love the FIM MXGP events for the same reasons, though only the des Nations gives me the same kind of chills that an F-1 round does. I imagine I'd feel differently if I'd ever stood on a World Championship podium...but I'm speaking as a fan.

That said, I just finished watching the F-1 Italian Gran Prix at Monza and the behavior displayed by the crowd during the podium ceremony was so fucking far beyond rude that I just had to say something. I totally get the whole Italian/Ferrari passion and how rabid the fans are and how much they love their fucking Ferrari drivers. Fernando Alonso summed it up when he said that everywhere in the world people come up to him and refer to him as a two-time World Champion, but in Italy he's a Ferrari driver. What I don't get is how an unimaginably huge crowd of classless fucks could stand there and boo while Sebastian Vettel was interviewed by a legend like John Surtees, a man who has won seven motorcycle World Championships, in addition to his 1964 F-1 title. Hell, he won at Monza twice!

Somehow, he managed to stay fairly composed and Vettel was cool as fuck, knowing that his utter domination of the series is enough of an unspoken "FUCK YOU" to the Neanderthals in the crowd. The whole scene is absolutely spectacular and it's sad (to me) that the Italian crowd ruins it by not being civil enough to STFU during the interview. It would be different if it wasn't the entire throng of maybe 20,000 people gathered around the podium that were booing.

Before anyone gets their balls in a bunch and takes too much offense, my daughter is half Italian and I love her more than life itself...thankfully her German half is dominant and was able to pull her a few rungs back up the evolutionary ladder.

Thanks, I feel better now.

I would be shocked if it was different. The race was in Italy, he`s not Ferrari driver, he`s battling Ferrari driver who`s second in points.

I went to Monza in the Schumacher days and it was awesome. The fans are over the top passionate about the race and Ferrari in particular. After the race, they were scaling the 40 foot fence to be first to the podium ceremony. As for them Booing Vettel....He made his bed with a lot of fans with his BS pass on Webber after he was told to hold station. Webber should be commended for not ripping his head off.

You do realise this is a Moto X site, Herr Bauer, ja? Perhaps you should be on an F1 forum with this. An Italian F1 forum. Wink

Sadly, that type of behavior is all too common in any sport. Seems to me the crowd was booing at one those International Golf Tournaments in the U.S. a couple of years ago. Badly enough that the American golfers commented on the classlessness of it.
Ryder Cup or Davis Cup maybe, not sure. Seems it just people's shitty lack of sportsmanship in general these days is everywhere.

I was watching the Belgian GP and the crowd booed Vettel there, too. Coincidence, or not?

Hey I did not know John Surtees ! I just watched what he did, that is really impressive!

Well, i live in Cologne, Germany (Born, raised & raced in So Cal) and even when i was a kid id get up at 4 am to see races on ESPN. where i live now im lucky enough to be an hour or so drive from both Nürbergring & Spa in Belgium and if u ever get a chance GO see and F1 race. The F1 race in texas is your best bet and a great track.
Living here the Italian reaction is normal, and not surprizing at all.. belgium was the same,.... Italy was Italian pride ( lets face it they havnt much to cheer about sports wise) in belgium the resentment is more political ( not much love still between belgium & germany still due to the "thing" in the 40's.) and while i love everything about F1 i still think Motocross & Sx is the best sport ever. sadly like MX gone are the days of unobtainium parts and truely one of a kind works parts. next year they take a step down to V-6 motors gone are the days of the supercharged V12 motors of ferrari ( an amazing sound if you've never heard it) good news is HONDA are coming back to F 1 !!!!

oh and ive met Sebastian Vettel and talked with him casually and that kid is a class act and 100% racer. People just hate on him cause he wins all the time. personally im Kimi Reikonnen fan... hes 100% racer as well.

Just like last year at MXDN when team USA was announced as the bronze medalists at the podium and all you could hear was people shouting and booing. That was an embarrassing moment just like the one at Monza yesterday. I really hate moments like these when it makes your sport look like it's all hillbillys and stupid people that can't behave. Geez, what on earth makes people do this shit? Vettel won Monza, treat him with respect. Anyway, I guess I don't speak for myself when I say that I wanted to punch every fucking moron in their face.

If I had to sit through that boredom I'd be pissed off too. Luckily, I was able to FF my DVR from lap 3 to lap 50 and find that nothing had changed.

I do. Vettel is like RV in MX. He`ll do anything to win, even if it means stepping out of line.

Along with Scottie and Jaymo above, so that makes three of you you Wink

I think BAMX hit the nail on the head. He certainly comes from the Schumacher school of racing, but it gets results and thats what matters I guess, I doubt the boos bother him too much.

He wins because he is on a Red Bull. He's no Villopoto.

Hum ... why not further back? We should not consider ourselves as very important, humans are really not much, we are not much, just temporary. So it is important to know where we are at in History.

People all over the world are boo'ing SV and Red Bull... why? Because F1 is a snoozefest right now because of them.... if anyone else had won the race they would not have been boo'ed....

hey, I like Red bull, i drink a couple a week, but they really have no business in F1 at all (they sell drinks, they aren't a car manufacture), and they are somehow allowed two teams instead of one, meaning something somewhere has always been fishy/paid off....

Brawn had a little trick one year that allowed them and button to win the title, it was quickly squashed to make sure the big name teams were back on an even footing..... Red Bull has had a little trick that has been allowed to live for 3 years... money talks, bullshit walks, and consumers/viewers are tired of an energy drink company dominating their favorite form of racing....

Semen D. you should of seen the twitter beef i got in w. this tool who is trying to start a F1 site, but is bashing Seb WAY worse than any boo'ing. Saying shit like, If you re-arrange the letters in Seb Vettel you spell "TWAT" and posting pictures of himself flipping off his TV w/ Seb on it.

...and let me remind you, this guys wants to start a F1 website!!!

There is some lame people on this planet, Im not a big Lewis fan, but have SO much respect for how these guys put their lives on the line, and you wont see me flipping him off or posting stupid shit like that. Just lame.

btw: Horner posted that Seb thrives on that negative stuff. He is a good kid, ever see him on Letterman? hilarious!!

Did you ever watch the 250 nationals in 09 and espically 2010?? A certain rider sure got alot of shit from our fans..... I like how you say dont get ur balls in a bunch and then say "thankfully her German half is dominant and was able to pull her a few rungs back up the evolutionary ladder." Good thing you cleared that up!

Just like we've seen in moto many times over, once a racer becomes both dominant AND confident, fans become tired of the routine.

Yeah no shit, the only thing we know about Seb is he wipes his behind with Mark, put Alonso in that car and see what happends. Comparing him to RV please in MX its 90% rider in F1 its 90% car.

If its all car why isnt Mark 2nd in every race and not 90+ points behind Seb?

Obviously some of you dont know shit about F1. Go do some research on Seb as he came up as a driver.
