As a daddy, I can only imagine the anguish Josh must feel. One thing I know for sure is that if a family dog intentionally caused a serious injury to either of my sons, it would disappear in record time and would never reappear-anywhere.

This kind of thing is also very hard on mammas. I hope Wyatt's injuries are not permanent and that the whole family comes through this whole episode ok.

And I'm totally fine with having a lot fewer posters, especially if the quality of civil discussion goes up.

For example, Kenny got his jabs in on Josh, but did it in a way that wasn't particularly offensive. Hammertime and MXR? Not so much.

This is a thread about a very young child and something that could effect him the rest of his life.
How about we leave this thread for updates and leave the discussion of dog breeds to the Westmenster Dog Show. Here's a link if you so happen to be "passionate" about discussing dog breeds.

Some of you classy guys on here are fucked up and need to grow up. Unfortunately accidents happen. I'm sure Josh and his wife love their son more than life itself so to think they would've allowed a dangerous dog around him is one of the most stupidest ignorant assumptions anyone could make. My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the Grant family. They're good people and don't deserve cheap shots from assclowns during a tragic time.

Get well soon Wyatt.

I have had pitbulls my entire life and they have been the best most loving dogs. All were also rescues. Every dog can have a screw loose regardless of breed, just like any human. Maybe it is in the genetic makeup, maybe it isnt. We dont know.

We can stereotype and say that a certain ethnicity makes up a large population of our prison system, but would you have a person of that ethnicity in your home to meet your kids?...... I dont care what people say, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I have been around vital a long time. Though I lost my original username / email a long time ago. I should really dig it up. (maybe you can email me GuyB to change my name, as this isnt accurate).
This is the most off putting moto thread ever. Why has this not been moved? Threads like this sure do make me want to bail on this board all together. I come here to read about moto and things somewhat related, but to turn this into a breed bashing argument (for or against) is going a little far.

flame away.

But just like this situation
It is good that the publc hear about pit bulls attacking so people can be more careful and manage there dog so innecent people don't get hurt.
These dogs are in the news time and time again
I was attacked 7-11-2011
So I know first hand how it feels

$30,000 of surgeries
They only make up 5% of all dogs but yet are responsible for 66%
Of all human deaths in US
Carry a gun
I do now
I am so sorry for josh and his little guy
And also hope people keep a handle on these dogs if they decide to have them

MX4EVER that's terrible. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. My sister and I were attacked by a st bernard when we were really little and we've both blocked it out of our memories. She almost had to have plastic surgery.

I actually shot a pitbull some years ago. Drug dealing guy down the street let it roam the neighborhood. Un-neutered male pitbull repeatedly came after my elderly border collie (the border collie, while the closest genetically to the eastern gray wolf all dogs come from, is not exactly known for its ferocity).

2 .40 slugs at close range with zero remorse.

Hope little man has a speedy recovery.

I am a loving father of two beautiful children under 5 yrs, and i am also a responsible owner of a pitbul. I don't have any tattoos nor am I gangster wanna be. As a father and responsible pit owner, I take every precaution to ensure that they are never left alone together without me present. Although I believe my pit to be non aggressive and to have a mild temperament, I just simply would not afford any opportunity for any extreme situation to happen. With that said, a pit can be a great family dog in a controlled environment.

Pitbulls can be friendly dogs, however, the problem with them is that they do most things well. For example, my pit is very obedient, because I raised him to be that way. He hardly barks and is a dream to walk, even while encountering another dogs. He allows my much smaller american bull dog to push him around, even with him being twice her size. Pitbulls are a smart and loyal breed, however, if one decided to harm something, because of its physical capabilities, it would preform well.

I never claimed to be a dog expert nor am I bashing anyone for what happened to Josh's kids. I am sorry that the grants are going through this traumatic experience and wish them the best.

Here is a pic of my big guy

best wishes to the Grant's through this ordeal. my cousin was bit by the most friendly lab in the neighborhood and had extensive surgery to fix his problems. it happens and you can't pick one breed out of them all.
Exactly. This place is screwed. I feel bad that Steve has to read through all of this bullshit everyday.

Right next to Guy B going all Pit Bull on MXR. They even both have their heads going the same direction!

The daughter of a friend of mine got tore up pretty good by a couple of Dalmatians. Dogs always seem to go for the face...

I love dogs, and had as many as 7 at one time. Sorry to tell you this, but some are more aggressive than others. Any breed could be aggressive. This is coming from a guy who's rescued many dogs. Sorry to piss you off, but if you don't think Pit's and Chow's (example) can typically be more aggressive, than you are stupid or have your head in the sand.

As much as I love dogs, I'd never have an aggressive bred dog around any children...PERIOD. You are almost asking for trouble. Yes any dog could bite, but typically that's the end of it. A pit is not going to stop.

My daughter said people were stupid for not trusting her pit mix dog. Well after having a child, and watching it go after her she quickly changed her mind.

Owners always mention how loving and gentle their pits are, but purposely leave out how much more powerful a pit is compared to other dogs. OK, I quit....

I think it's safe to say, regardless of the breed, it would be irresponsible to leave any child alone with a dog. My brother was bitten in the leg by a loose Golden when he was 10 and needed stitches. The police said there had been complaints of the family threatening to sick that dog on others. He was only doing what his owners taught him to do. I believe Goldens are great family dogs despite that experience.

People with their minds made up already will fight to the death to defend their position on the Internet, no matter what the subject is... Happy Monday everyone!
Exactly Slipdoggy-dog......any dog can bite at any given time, regardless of the breed. Obviously some are going to do much more damage than others. The Grants really don't need people telling them they are idiots and all that stupid shit, I'm sure they are feeling bad enough right now. I hope he recovers soon.

Slip I was not calling you or Josh or anyone else that has a pitbull a moron. I was simply agreeing with Kenny that some people should not own pitbulls, kinda of like some people should not have kids. If I offended you I apologize, that was not my intention.Hope lil wyatt makes a full recovery!
My opinion is a little bias because i have had three pitbull incidents in 17 years of living in Simi Valley. I'm sure that most of the people on this board are responsible parents and dog owners but, there are quite a few out there that are not.

You pretty much nailed it. If you don't have kids then fine get a Pit Bull and put a big spike collar on him too if you want. But if kids are around it is not worth the risk. The dog could be very friendly until your kid is wresting around with the next door neighbor and the dog wants to protect his owner and something tragic ends up happening.

Okay, since this thread went way south I'll throw in my Pit Bull story. It by the way is one of those "only in Texas" stories. Not far from my business is a vacant plot of land that the city must have pissed the landowner off in regards to him letting it get overgrown. His solution was to fence it all off and put a bunch of goats and sheep in there to keep the grass and weeds down. Had to have been one of those grandfathered deals because I can't imagine farm animals being allowed there under normal zoning.

Anyway, early one morning a man was driving past there and noticed two pit bulls attacking the sheep and goats. He stopped and tried to distract the dogs to get them to stop. When that failed he went back to his house nearby, got his compound bow and killed the two dogs. Early reports were that none of the goats or sheep were killed but I think one or two eventually had to be put down. Was definitely one of those WTF moments when I heard it on the news.

I Guess Humans need to create Monsters ( Pitbulls ) to try and take the Heat off the Real Monsters in the World, Screwed up Humans. How bout we ban them from society and exterminate them all

No offence was taken on my side about your post. Some people can discuss topics rationally and others can only state their opinion as fact and everyone else is a moran. I understand some people have strong feelings against Pit Bulls, it comes with the territory. I'm also not naive enough to think that my dogs would "never", because that's the first sign of irresponsibility as a dog owner. I trust my dogs, but I'm always involved in, and limit, any interaction they have around my kids. I also know people with pits and other breeds I would never let within a mile of my children.

The edit was not directed at anyone specifically, just to reflect the tone the thread took with some as it jumped the tracks.

Saying that all pit bulls are dangerous is like saying US riders are better than the Euros.... (oh wait, never mind)

Bummer for little Grant. I hope he gets well soon.
Getting rid of an animal that has become part of the family is always hard. We had to do that with a female Malamute. Very sweet dog, but a typical alpha behavior. I could never trust her around my kid, and had to place her. It is one thing for an adult to establish dominance. Kids? not so much.

Samoyed for me now. And even though I trust them 100% around my kids, I would never let a situation like this happen:

8/19/2013 1:58pm Edited Date/Time 8/19/2013 1:59pm
That is really sad and unfortunately all to common. Pit Bulls are bred to fight, there is no way around it. It doesn't matter how nice it is, how much it licks you and your kids face and especially whether you have established yourself or people as "Alpha's" (which is complete nonsense). Pit Bulls have an extreme fight drive that is stronger than their otherwise nice disposition, it is not cognitive it is genetic, it doesn't have a choice, if it's fight or prey drive is triggered it will bite. Terriers are similar in that they bite a lot because they were bred to kill varmints but obviously they can't cause the type of damage that a Pit Bull can.

Dog's are animals not people if they were bred to do something they will do it if the right factors present themselves.

Thankfully it is not as bad as it could have been but still a very unfortunate situation and I really hope and pray his son will be okay and not permanently affected by it. That is all that matters at this point.
