Bobby Hewitt announces Rockstar Energy Racing Team to Compete on KTM Motorcycles
August 14, 2013 - For Immediate Release

Corona, CA – Bobby Hewitt's Rockstar Energy Racing (RER) Team, is pleased to announce it has signed a three-year contract with KTM Motorsports for its team to race aboard KTM motorcycles in both the AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross Championship Series. The team will make its KTM debut on October 19, 2013 at the Monster Energy Cup.

President and Team Owner, Bobby Hewitt, expressed his enthusiasm for the announcement, stating, “As a satellite team, we will always be the little engine that could, but having the support of KTM is a huge advantage. We are delighted and grateful to race KTM motorcycles and eagerly excited for the opportunity to utilize KTM’s new Factory Services program. This will be a very exciting venture for our team.”

The KTM brand has had great success over the past two seasons capturing both 450 and 250 Motocross and Supercross class wins. Both KTM and RER strive to continue to improve the overall race results and exposure gained in professional racing. Through KTM’s Factory Service Program, which allows racers and support teams the opportunity to purchase the same engine and suspension components as the factory team, the RER Team will have the platform it needs to deliver the results that the team, it’s riders and it’s sponsors are looking to achieve.

For 2014, RER will continue to support Davi Millsaps as its premier 450 Supercross and Motocross class rider. It will also field a two-man lites team with returning rider Jason Anderson as well as the 2013 Rookie of the Year, Joey Savatgy. The title sponsor will remain with Rockstar Energy Drink and the remainder of the 2013 season sponsors will return to support the team for the 2014 season.

Team rider, Millsaps, commented, “I believe with my team’s support and my dedication to training that I can win on the KTM. I am excited for this new opportunity and am expecting another great season as I contend for the championship.” His teammate, Anderson, added to his statement, explaining, “I raced KTM’s for my last few years as an amateur and really loved the motorcycles. I am happy with the team’s decision to switch to KTM’s and I feel the bikes will be a good fit for me this season. I hope to put the KTM on the box at the opening round in Anaheim.”
DAMN!!! Thanks GuyB that was a quick answer to my question.

I look forward to seeing how this goes!

Glad to see they are setting the sag, because it looks really low to me. Glad to see Davi making this move, I for one think it might do him well. At least I hope it does.

I think the real shocker at this point is that Davi is already back on the bikeShocked How is that even possible?

Haha... thats funny , this is at Harz-Ring in Germany , a track i raced on last week , and im nursing a real badly bruised foot from the kerb in the background , off road is a little severe for a road going SM bike , but for this to crop up in a Millsaps to KTM thread is beyond wierd.

For davi I think this may hurt him just a little. For the team though glad they are gonna get some good support. Maybe that will make up the difference.

Cool. Hope it works out for the team. KTM definitely has its 'heart' in the dirt-bike sport. More power to 'em.

Its amazing how much Dungey has done to change the view people have of KTM on the American moto scene. A few years ago people would have been wishing Davi well as he crashed his way into retirement on the pumpkin of doom. Glad to see they turned the image around from the Langston, MC days. Best of luck to Davi. Im nervous about the switch only because that Zook fit him like a glove, but talent is talent.

So does anyone know what the full story is with Blake Wharton? They mentioned on the pulp show that he was done for the year but it seemed as if there was more to the story that wasn't being talked about.

I think if they did this they would be winning the MX shootouts and they would be a killer bike...it seems like the only complaint anyone has with them is the suspension

So does Anderson finish out the rest of this year on his yellow bike? Surely he wouldn't change in the middle right? I mean it says "now riding orange" insinuates that he is already riding orange?

Just curious

Where is KTM getting all this money?

Is WP going to produce some suspension that will have the performance of the triple-air fork?

Congratulations to Bobby and the team, and KTM!

BTW - I love GoPro videos, but hate the way the camera looks on top of the helmet.

If I recall correctly Davi said he was cleared to start walking and putting weight on his leg the Monday before Red Bud. That makes just over 5 weeks and he is back on the bike.

Since Suzuki wouldn't give them bikes, they lost a good rider! (and team)

KTM came through with a good deal. Way to step up!

I highly doubt they would change bikes for the guys still racing the nationals. Michael Leib is riding the last two rounds as a fill in for Rockstar on the 250 and the photos of him testing were on a Suzuki.

I remember seeing taka's gopro at the xgames was mounted under his visor. I don't think this would be ideal for racing because it seems like it would have to be in your line of sight to some extent. But I do think the viewpoint from that mount would be more similar to what the rider is actually seeing than the mounts on top of the helmet

I was wondering the same thing. Sounded kind of fishy. Not sure if he quit or got fired.

Either way, good luck to the team. It will be cool to see how Millsaps does on the new bike and to see Anderson back on a KTM.

It made perfect sense all along. MTF riders and KTM, as well as FMF support. There were plenty of connections already made, so why choose anything other than what you already know?

Agreed. I love watching the videos, but those conspicuous square blocks look ridiculous on top of everyone's head.
