This thread used to have something to do with RV. Now it doesn't.

Newsflash

RV is not the fasted rider in the world. The last time he raced the best riders in the world and won was back in 2011.

He missed MXDN 2012 so the label "fastest man in the world" does not apply. Maybe if he lines up next year and wins, you can all start calling him that again. Until then, it's just ifs buts and whatevers.
Actually he raced the fastest riders in the world on Saturday at Unadilla.

thing is cairoli has been riding the last few months with injured knee ligaments. Least he's gona man up and race the des nations before getting it operated on- wanting to ride the only race of the year when he gets to race against the americans. Really disappointed in RV for this was looking forward to seeing him race against herlings/ cairoli

And demolished them
It's a shame that in 2011 the 2nd and 3rd MX1 GP guys weren't there too and AC broke his wrist in the first couple of laps, that would've been a great showdown

Also a shame RV wasn't there last year too,he dodged the "Bullet" in Lommel

Riders get injured which can't be helped,RC wasn't in England,Everts wasn't at Budds,I guess RV at least has a choice but there you go $$ talks

The Des Nations is the greatest event on the MX calendar, relatively very few people around the world really care about the MEC ,its a US thing, people everywhere are going to bitch and moan

The US pick their 3 best guys from the whole of the AMA MX scene to go up against the best of the GP series,as a team thing, regardless of the GP riders being fragmented into lots of little countries, its seeing the top guys go at it and race, trade winning Motos

I thought the US was a lock to win with RV. Now they should still be the favorite but it will be tough. Especially if the Dungey that raced Unadilla shows up. As a Dungey fan it was quite frustrating watch RD follow Grant and then Wiemer for more than half the race. RV and ET are animals out there and pass guys quickly and easily. If RD gets good starts he will be fine but coming through the pack is certainly not his strength.
Looks like Dungey will be lining up to race Cairoli & Herlings again the following weekend in Madrid - I imagine RD will almost certainly be the favourite if it's a SX style event.

Hopefully he'll manage to fit in a little sightseeing while over here in Europe too.

I get it, but what I think is sad is that Monster Cup is more of a priority than Des Nations. A race that will prob be gone in 3-5 years VS a race that's been going strong for (insert how many decades) years. Sponsor of the team and all that I understand, I just think its a shame to prioritise for a goofy, forgettable, corporate race like that. Of course, Des Nations is fuelled by corporations now too (inc monster), but theres no denying the legacy and prestige of that race. It's like choosing WWF over the Olympics. ha!

I'm betting that Monster, being the MXON sponsor...and the fact that they DO want Villopoto there, will put enough pressure on the forces that are trying to keep him from doing the race that they will eventually let him go. Plus he's the only rider that can go head to head with Herlings & Cairoli on such a fast, hardpack (if it doesn't rain) track.

I'm betting our team to be Dungey, Villopoto & Tomac, with Barcia as a backup.

Uh-oh...guess I'd be the loser. Sad Just read the news this morning. I'm not a Villopoto fan, but I hate the thought of him not going simply knowing the competition there.

Can't blame him for wanting to get fully well for the 2014 SX/Outdoor season here...but clearly, the team (and Monster) is much more interested in the $$$ and prestige of the MEC than the pride & patriotism to win this race for our country. Poto said in his interview that "nobody will understand it"...and he's right.

Or maybe RV is tired of the constant throbbing pain that comes with hard training or even just walking on a bum ankle?? Screws rubbing against muscle and skin does NOT feel good, and it feels even worse when you put yourself through daily routines that put it under even more stress. Just because he's winning on a bike doesn't mean this problem is small or that the heal time would be quick. If he waited to race the MXoN that means he won't get back on the bike until November, then he has to be ready to perform come early January on the biggest stage this sport has to offer.

And he has to start back racing when? March? Not some Italian championship but his main series? I am disappointed that poto wont be there either but he has to try and be ready by late oct. for another race he wants to race. I know a million dollars may not be much to you guys but that is still a chunk of money over here and he has a legitimate chance of winning. If the mxdn was only a week or two after the nationals I think it would have made a difference but it's like a 5 weeks later.

Either way I wished he was going. All this shit you guys are talking, you do realize that it gives people room to throw it back in your face if we come over there and win right (I won't be the one talking shit but some will)? Oh well, carry on

I mean look at Cairoli. He had knee problems ALL year and he will wait until after desnations to really fix them...

Bottom line: Ryan Villopoto is paid by Kawasaki, Monster, and his other sponsors to compete in the American Supercross & Outdoor Motocross series. He is probably also contracted, and paid to race the Monster Energy Cup as part of his Monster sponsorship contract. He is not...nor are any other American factory riders, paid to race the MXON. The riders choose to be a part of that team or not to.

I am all in agreement for the "bone spur" Villo talked about in the interview, to be fixed. I'm sure that hinders him on some level...but the injury he sustained last year at St. Louis did not effect the foot he's getting surgery on.

He can, and plans to brave through the pain of that bone spur in order to compete in the 2013 Monster Energy Cup...because he is PAID to do it.

He wants to get the surgery instead of going to the 2013 Motocross Of Nations because he is not PAID to race there, and he wants to be 100% for the 2014 Supercross series in January.

What am I missing?

He didn't have the MONSTER CUP and SX in January to prepare for.

Cairoli is a beast, and having his knees fixed AFTER the biggest race for European fans is admirable, but lets compare apples to apples here. The MX Des Nations is NOT the biggest race for American racers on American fans. Yes, a handful of us die hard MX fans love what it means.

Personally, I wouldn't care f RV decided to skip the race to go hunt buffalo on the range while drinking cases upon cases on PBR. He deserves to do whatever his heart desires. The Des nations will be just as interesting without him and will only level the playing field as most countries don't have 3 of the worlds elite to send.

Exactly. As much as it gets hyped, the MXDN is an exhibition race. Would we be complaining if he broke his leg and couldn't race? No. This is basically the same thing. He needs to get something fixed and he's going to do it in a way that allows him to come back for SX next year.

Ignorance is ignorance no matter where you find it.

We've had GP World Champions come here and get their asses handed to them, at least at first, until they adjust to the intensity and American style of riding balls out from the start. Roczen, Musquin, Rattray...are some that come to mind.

We've also had some great American racers go to the GP's thinking it would be cherry picking...and find out differently, because of the same reasons. With longer motos and the severe conditions, it all about acclimation and what you spend your life racing on. It's all a matter of being king in your own particular kingdom.

With longer motos and the severe conditions, it all about acclimation and what you spend your life racing on. It's all a matter of being king in your own particular kingdom.
I think you might also find the circuits in America are totally different from GP circuits and that is part of the adjustment. Same with the AMA guys coming to the MXoN and winning only half the MXoN motos in the last ten years. AMA circuits seem more flowing, wide open, full throttle stuff, while GP circuits are more to do with throttle control, weird egg shaped corners. And you also have that thing called humidity, which seems to kill a lot of euros.

All in all, two great series, with totally different riders, tracks, and weather. I love them both.

If I were RV I would have made the same decision. His main goals are the mx/sx seasons.

No substance and just a fairy tail wish list. RV has done his duty at the MxDN, I'm sure whatever his reasons are make sense to someone who has a clue.
And, of course...that "someone who has a clue" would be you, correct? Dry

Post a reply to: This thread used to have something to do with RV. Now it doesn't.
