What moron even brought up this topic?!

PEDs haven't been a problem in this sport and the sport doesn't need to even be bogging itself down with this kind of BS!

Enough already!

These guys (the pros) routinely break their bodies, sometimes in horrific and permanent fashion, for my and others entertainment.

Far be it from me to pass judgement on whether or not it's ok to use modern medicine to recover from said injuries and training faster.

Crazy how the most notorious cheaters of the sport (Team Alessi) are the ones who blow up about it...My guess would be if anyone was using PED, Alessi would probably be in line to take them next!

Would you be fast enough to win? I could take all the PED's I could get my hands on and I still wouldn't be fast enough to be anymore than a local B rider. Does everyone really think RV for instance is on PED's? Could it just be he is FASTER than everyone else at this moment? Was Hannah on PED's in the 70's? RJ in the 80's? MC in the 90's? There is always someone that rises to the top in this sport. This whole PED thing is a witchhunt.

IF.....Mind you, IF....you were a top level A rider, and there was a drug that allowed to recover physically from races more quickly, as well as allow you to train harder' longer, more times a day and also helped you recover from injuries more quickly, would YOU consider that a "performance enhancing drug?"

Let me ask you one other question, if I may, IF YOU COULD get more fluids into your system more efficiently and more quickly, between motos, by way of an IV bag, would that be "performance enhancing?" Now, we all agree a simple saline IV is not technically a "drug" per se, but is it performance enhancing?

riding at 80% for 30+2 is not as fast as 100% for 30+2.

what would you do to make it so you could push your hardest, longer?

I don't know or care either way about peds, but when people say they wouldn't make you twist a throttle harder don't understand the point of peds.

For those of you who think it is fine to use performance enhancing drugs, or modern medicine to get to the top of your chosen sport, where do you draw the line?

Genetically enhanced baby's, why not get it right from the start. Growth hormones and PED's from the time the kid is born, why not get the edge from the start.

Why not just have a free for all and let the human race go for it, in 100 years time maybe we would not need two separate classes of bikes but riders separated in to Naturally aspirated humans and genetically modified humans!

THE 2113 AMA Supercross Championship

Human Class Championship Standings

Mutant Class Championship standings.

Ok maybe stretching it a bit, but where do you draw the line? Just remember if you make if OK for the Pro's to used PED's, little Johnny coming up through Armature's will be doing the same and his little five year old brother on his PW50, will only follow in his footsteps.

Again where do you draw the line.

Not high at all, and some guys probably are using, but why all of the sudden is the lynch mob out to hang someone over PED's? There is always a guy that is a cut above the rest in motocross. And do all you guys really think PED's would change the outcome of the races? RV is still the fastest guy, and he is still going to win. RV seems to be the target of much of this PED talk because of Aldon. He was on the WADA list all last year and never failed a test. As was Chad Reed. Are you guys suggesting he's pulling a "Lance"? I'm all for drug testing, go for it, but you will never be able to rid any professional sport of PED's and guys willing to push the envelope.

In response to flarider; are you suggesting guys are using IV's in between moto's? That is illegal under AMA rules. Has been ever since Doug Henry was doing it in the late 90's. And under current rules, if a guy does have to get an IV from the Asterisk Medical unit, he cannot race the second moto.

Smoker; by your logic none of the guys are able to go 30+2 without PED's. Do you truly believe this? Why do Dungey and RV train like maniacs? They know what they need to do and they train accordingly. I understand the recovery aspect of PED's and understand their benefit, but I think if you tested all 40 guys on the gate the use of PED's would be much lower than the conspiracy theorist Vitards claim.

For the sake of conversation let's say RV is taking PED's. And for the sake of conversation let's say he has his PED's taken away. Does he start getting 5th, 10th, 15th place? In this instance, Dungey would take over the top spot. Does that mean Dungey is now on PED's? Can we not accept the fact that these guys are badasses and can ride a bike better than 99% of all humans?

To answer your question YES. Once you stop taking PED's your strength and stamina immediately diminishes quite a bit. I would assume in motocross the most likely reason to take PED's would be stamina and recovery. Once you take PED's it make your body stop producing testorone or produce much less of it. It's the difference of the feeling of being 15-16 vs late 20's. Imagine something that could make you have the energy of a 15-16 year old.

Yes, it's against the rules, good thing no one ever cheats or seeks an advantage, huh?
Who said anything about the Asterisk unit?
Do you know what a rider is doing in their personal motor coaches between motos? How about the hauler lounge? How about their rental car?

I'm sure there are plenty of guys using shit to get an advantage. But none of you retards on here speculating of top riders doing them is helping anything. So either come up with a solution or shut up. Because your just taking away from the sport and attracting negativity to it.

If I thought it could help me I would have taken them. May not have made a difference but I would have used them if I could have.

Good article.

With it, one of the sport's icons of the late-1990s and early-2000s—a champion and cancer survivor—fell from the rafters of clean competition, representing the latest victim to succumb to the temptation of performance-enhancing drugs.

Unfortunately, he won't be the last.

In today's era of incredibly powerful synthetic chemistry that is becoming more and more advanced, it is difficult to look at any professional athlete and confidently state that he or she is clean.

Whether it be frank PED use or circumventing the rules in some other way, athletic competition will be tainted by doubts for some time still. And when new urine or blood tests to detect cheating come out, new ways of avoiding those tests will assuredly soon follow.

As a result, the use of PEDs has become so commonplace that it is no longer shocking when the next athlete is accused. After all, as the saying goes, "If you aren't cheating, you aren't trying." These days, far too many athletes are taking that line of thinking much too seriously.

presly, holy shit, I didn't have 0% for 30+2 in my equation?! where did you get that by my logic they can't do 30+2 w/o peds?

I was implying that a top athlete might run 80% (just a guestimate, I don't really know) so he can pace himself over 30 minutes plus two laps. Maybe a top athlete on some juice can push 85% for 30+2.

IF RV is doping and winning like he is, say he quit doping, maybe instead of beating dunge by 30 seconds, he'd only beat him by a few seconds and have to push hard while doing that and fatigue sooner and possibly crash cause he doesn't have the energy to recover if he gets out of his rut or something.

I am not accusing RV of ped use, I don't know or care, I hope he is and his body is recovering from all the brutal training he is putting his body through. But I think the people defending the ped use in the sport make stupid points.

There's potentionally more to PED's that just being stronger for longer, ie, ones that make you concentrate more, make you more alert, and to simply fight fatigue,

sidenote: i believe the fastest guy on the bike will always be at the front, and that RV is just flat out balls out fast, but don't be fooled by people saying that PED's don't exist in our sport, and that they don't create an advantage. a PED isn't all of a sudden going to get you 5 seconds a lap faster, but if your battling with someone who is a similiar speed, and it's getting down to the final minutes of the moto, one of you is on a PED that will simply allow you to go longer, then there's the obvious advantage.

With big fat contracts offering huge amounts of $$$ on the line, prize money, win bonuses and multiple sponsorship deals for the most successful riders I can assure you they don't do it solely for the entertainment of the fans.

The kids grow up with stars in their eyes when it comes that level, hard work and commitment are where its at,and I admire that but cheating is another level,it's banned and everyone cant be at it and the only way to have a level playing feild is to have more random blood testing,

I'll never understand anyone condoning the use of drugging in sport

If Armstrong and others contnued to use PED's and banned proceedures in the TDF and cycling is the most tested sport in the world, you'd have to be naive to think some participants weren't trying it in outdoor MX, which has no rules against PED's and no drug control's!
I appreciate the organisers haven't the money or resources to do full scale testing, but if everyone, fans included, turn's a blind eye to this issue, there will be a lot more problems down the line!

Testing for PEDs is always a generation behind the drugs themselves. The AMA drug tests until recent years were focused on old school party drugs like cocaine and marijuana. The stuff Lance Armstrong did in 1999 was not really detecable very well until the last couple years.

No doubt riders use medications, supplements and other drugs to recover. David Pingree stated once that he has seen Human Growth Hormone in the fridge of some riders houses. Where does it become "performance enhancing". Is Wal-mart protein or joint pain medication considered PEDs? Any efforts to test for PEDs are bound to be outdated and selectively enforced.

Just declare open season on the issue. Use whatver you want and if your blood type becomes Ragu by accident or you suddenly die in your sleep at age 36 that is the risk you take.

RV is the fastest with or without PEDs. The all deal with PEDs is not being more technical and faster, it's being stronger longer and not fade. Everybody knows if you fade, you lose your concentration, make mistakes, slow down, fall etc...

Here's another thought...

WHAT IF you could simply take a pill that improved concentration?
Let's say you get your physician to prescribe you an ADHD med, something like Adderall?

By using something like Adderall, your concentration and focus levels improve, which is why it's commonly abuse in collegiate settings, so students can remain focused on term papers, lectures, readings, research and more, for longer periods of time.

AJ Almendinger was suspended from NASCAR for using unprescribed Adderall, for the very reason listed above. How hard do you think it is to compete at the highest levels for hours and maintain total focus throughout?

A lapse in concentration in moto can wind up with you on the ground or making dumb mistakes.

Point is, and I AM NOT accusing anyone of anything, but a "PED" is not and does not necessarily have to be a hormone, blood doping, EPO or steroid.
A "PED" or simply a "PE" (Performance enhancer) can be something as simple as a saline IV on race day or an ADHD drug.

Adderall will make someone with ADHD calm down and focus due to their brain chemistry. Someone who is not ADHD will get sped up because, let's face it, it's pharm grade speed.... don't think that would be helpful.

Adderall was a singular example, there's an entire pharmacy of drugs that could be listed, because there are dozens and dozens of different types of ADD/ADHD meds and work in different manners.

I was keeping it simple and listing only the most well known product
