Meh.

1. Best whip text voting is a f-up, we all know Twitch gets Travis Barker to endorse him on his twitter, then automatically wins.
(Yes Twitch has his inside out whip thing he does, however guys like Jared McNeil could out-whip Twitch with his eyes closed)

2. "Best Whip" is a flaky niche at best. I don't know how BQ makes a living, however being a pro best whipper will never pay the bills.

3. X games medals do not hold anywhere near the same prestige now that there are multiple rounds.


IMO X Games is just falling into the same death trap that many core brands have also fallen into in the past...

1. Initially the core fans and talent live for it, push it and create its reputation.
2. Some corporate big wig who has no idea / connection to the actual brands culture decides to scale it main$tream.
3. Next minute its over exposed, loses the core fans / talent, and ends up on the shelves in wal-mart / on tv every 5mins / not even special anymore.


Cheers for fucking X-Games whoever did it.
My friends and I used to have a yearly hommage with amazing hype and days off work to watch it live
Now I don't even tune in / care about the results.

I dont get into xgames anymore, but i don't see the shock in this, x games told him to keep his efforts private and they'll consider, but he went ahead about made it public as he can, to what, basically force xgames into letting him in otherwise theyll look bad?

Sorry, but i dont get it the outcry or disappointment.


And honestly, imo, bretts whips were no different to a local pro, only difference is the local pro actively races, and that brett plasters his pictures everywhere.


Going the wrong way about it pretty much squashed any chances of x games excepting him anyway.

How the hell do you have a guy in charge of an event, that doesn't know enough about the sport? Brett needs to send the guy videos, to prove himself worthy?

"Big name" or not, I feel like there is easily a place and storyline for Bret in this - it's obvious. The small town, unknown kid, right? Then his own promo vid efforts to get his name out there and all of the effort he put into the process to try to get recognized.

But yeah, for what it's worth, Best Whip is really lame - I've never really paid attention to freestyle, but the popularity contest element of this event is ridiculous.

I understand your position but that email (assuming it was real and it seemed to be since you were asked to take it down) showed how lame the situation is. My take on it was that Brett didn't do as he was told so he was out.

I'm just now stepping in from work but had to read through this thread.

Are you guys saying that Brett didn't get invited because he was making videos of "The road to the X-Games" ?

You would think that would do nothing but help spread the word.....Like Xgames should be proud a guy was training his ass off to try and compete there.

I'm sure I have the story mixed up some how.....but someone please explain.

BQ is an awesome guy and would be a great personality in X-Games 2013. I, and hopefully others, sent Paul a respectable email requesting him to reconsider. Slamming Paul and his partners will not help Brett get what we all feel he deserves, an invite!
Paul was kind enough to reply, and while I whole heartedly disagree with his response, I do respect him for taking the time to explain.
Best whip has lost its luster over the years. The winner has never been the guy who has the most skill, rather the guy who knows "Snoop Dog" or?

Brett, your skill is undeniable!
Please find a way to keep your videos coming. Real moto enthusiasts understand how difficult it is to do the things you do.
Keep your heart in it and hopefully you will find a path that will allow you to make some money from your talents.

I for one will not support X-Games this year. Not sure what that does to them, but it will make me feel better.

Who knows, maybe the girl will win?

I was only going to tune in to See Brett's whip and Ridge race he motos. I'll still try to catch the moto stuff since Ridge may be doing it and I think someone mentioned maybe the Sherrif Josh Demuth might be going as well.

I couldn't stand to watch about 4 years ago when they kept cutting one guy jumping into 4 different camera angles. Couldn't even tell what I was looking at. My eyeballs haven't been back since.

No X Games is a bummer for sure, but I'm not gonna let it stop me from doing what we do. I have nothing bad to say about anyone, but I was never told by one person not to make the videos public. It's sad to say, but it's true. I wouldn't have done all of that knowing I was only shooting myself in the foot. I had never even heard of Paul until Dayton emailed him. Real bummer on how political the whole thing is, but I knew that going in. Like I have said all along, X Games or no X Games, I'm gonna keep a smile on my face and not forget why I ride my dirtbike.

I know these circumstances aren't ideal for the people involved in this production, but I think Dayton and Whiskey Throttle TV deserve a big shout out for putting together this killer series.

Dayton has been coming on strong recently by slapping out some killer moto flicks on the reg. I believe he even won the Racer X amateur film competition a few months back.

I know Brett Cue will continue to be a known name around here, but hopefully Dayton can use the momentum he has been building with this project to springboard his way into an industry position -- he definitely deserves a good look.
