I suppose they do have the square footage to support it.. but damn that entrance in and out right off the freeway is going to be a nightmare if this is true. But my stupid ass will be melting in the Houston heat if it shows up on my doorstep like that.

yeah the exit off the interstate and back up under it is really sorta screwed up. I can't imagine 3 Palms replacing Southwick but stranger things have happened. I would think they would have to make some major track changes to host a national. It just really doesn't fit if you ask me.

I've never been there. Do they have room for fenced in parking for forty semis?

That was always my thought. The facility is definitely good enough to host a national, it's just the entrance that will be a COMPLETE nightmare. It's not an easy spot to get to and traffic will be backed up onto I-45.

They've have to restructure the complex and probably do away with some of the other tracks (there are 7 currently) but in sheer land they have 255 acres.

Sorry, we are not having discussions with Three Palms or any other track in Texas right now.

There is a fine national track there in Texas called Freestone County. It's at the top of the list when the opportunity comes to return to the Lone Star State.

So Freestone lost a place on the national calender but they're still in line to get back on it? I haven't heard an explanation from either side on why Freestone got dropped and I'm not really asking for one now, but you have to admit that's a very confusing statement DC.

We did not leave Freestone because of it's facility or promoter; after five years there, we wanted to try the Southeast. We left Steel City to try the race in Utah. We do not have plans in the immediate future to return to Texas, but if we do, the line would form behind Freestone and Tony Miller.

Remember me saying that it would be cool to rotate some races and see how they work? That's what we're started to do. Maybe the interest will grow in some areas, maybe it won't. But it seems like some change to mix it up a little is interesting for the riders, the teams, the sponsors and the fans. While it may seem confusing, it's meant to add some diversity each year.

So far, I would say the Southeast race at Muddy Creek was well-received.

Either Way, is the old Brooksville track still there? I remember that one being crazy rough, almost as tough as Cocoa Beach, but I haven't heard it mentioned in a long time.

muddy creek was a brilliant race - track looked awesome as well.

i know of no racers that want to go to the same place year in and year out - adding new venues is what it's all about, there are always going to be classics, with a busy schedule to add new you gotta cut something.....simple.

And while I admit that I admire and have the utmost respect for Tony Miller, there is this place called Swan Motocross Park in Tyler Texas.......

there are certain types of dirt over in Wales where i ride and i swear nothing gets it out of white gear, so much so that you really have to consider choice of clothing Angry

Swan would probably be the best track in Texas to host a national, but I doubt that Clingfrost would ever be up for all that entails.

If you are speaking about Croom, I think we are talking about two different tracks, albeit two tracks that are located very close together. There is the "pit track" in the front of Croom, which is an informal track, and very sandy track that features whoops as deep as Unadilla's gravity cavity. That "track" is part of the state riding park and is open to anyone.

Then there is the the actual track that is behind Croom, and which held a round or two of the winter series back in the day and was not used for many years. I understand that Randy Yoho of Dade City fame owns it now, and it is open as a private deal, and mostly because there was, or is, permitting issues with the place. I never got to ride the place, but whenever I was riding the perimeter whoops at Croom I would stop and check it out, but it was all overgrown.

I rode a National Hare Scrambles at Cocoa Beach in the late 80's. That was one of the roughest places I ever rode.

Why do I have a bad feeling about you?

I have to admit that I do like seeing different tracks in the circuit but I'm a little bitter that Texas is out of a national. Oh well. I guess it gives me a reason to travel.

so why not drop Steel City and try a SE National and keep Freestone?

PPL in Utah and Arizona can pick Freestone, Hangtown, or Lake Elsinore.

While we are on that drop Lake Elsinore and put a national back in TX. Between mx and sx Cali has what like 15 freaking races.

I question the logic on dropping Freestone just to get a SE national, especially since two other tracks have been dropped since.

Thanks for the info, I had my doubts. Just know that us texan's are anxious for the nationals to return to our state! I was at freestone every year that I could have possibly made it and that included that day after my wedding!

Would be awesome to see the national come to swan!!! I know trey was hoping to get it back when tony got it. Let's try Swan MX in the rotation!!!!

As a Texan, I would LOVE for another National to be here again. Swan is a great facility and would love to see Trey's hard work pay off and get a national. Freestone is awesome and we thank Tony Miller and his WHOLE staff for working so hard to get a national back in Texas but if you want another track in Texas for a national, please consider Cycle Ranch. That track is so much fun!!! Great dirt, elevation changes, great facilities and they seem to have enough land for lots of parking. Either way, lets get a national back to Texas. Other than California, Texas has to be the next largest MX state in the nation. North Texas has 10-15 tracks all within 2 hours of each other that are prepped and running practices on any given weekend.

I think the problem with a San Antonio national is it's on the edge of the population centers, so getting a large turnout might be a challenge.

The track in Brooksville that DC was referring to was Chicken Farm. It closed up sometime in the 80's. Last time I rode there was about 1983 It was built in a sand pit and got rough. Not Orlando Sports Center or Cocoa rough but still rough. Of course we didn't "prep" tracks back then either.

Cycle Ranch would be a great track for a national. Tourism in San Antonio is the primary driver of business here. Cheap to fly into San Antonio from almost anywhere on Southwest. The track is less than 30 minutes from every hotel on the San Antonio Riverwalk.

And we could supply an endless supply of Mexican food............
