Anybody know if he's using the air shock or coil spring shock?

LOL, the suspension must really suck for the rest of the 38 riders on the gate as well. Villopoto beating Dungey can't be just because he is a faster rider, has to be the WP suspension, the same suspension that is being used to lead the World Championship including a 1-2 in the MX1 class on the weekend, leading the Australian MX Championship and won the first round of the Canadian MX Championship over a Kawasaki before the rider got hurt.

The same suspension that has dominated most Off-Road / Enduro / Desert Racing, Extreme Enduro over the past few years. What do the guys leading the GNCC currently run.
Stfu noob! Stop ruining this thread with facts.
Yeah, it was going so well before that [/sarcasm]

It's the coil...has been since very early in the Supercross season.

So when you're trolling, what kind of bait do you like to use? I'm assuming it's stink bait.

Not really. But when you start off with, "KTM suspensions are loathed by almost everyone especially magazine reviewers..." it's obvious that you already had your mind made up, probably by someone else, and are looking for support for your theory. Or maybe you're just flashing back to pre-linkage magazine tests?

Riders and tuners are always chasing a setup. It doesn't matter if they win or not, they're going to be talking about how it worked, and how to make it better. After watching Dungey (and Roczen and Musquin) all season long, It's not like they're uncompetitive, or struggling to make things work on bikes they can barely handle.

Then you have to ask whether they're using the air or coil shock. It just makes it sound like you're only basing your opinion off of stuff you've heard or read, rather than experienced.

for my 2012 250SX I took the Showa A kit forks off one of my Honda's and put them on the KTM with an Ohlins TTX shock and the difference is fantastic. If KTM were to come with say KYB SSS suspension to go with the great motors and chassis' they have now it would be a total home run. Out of the park.

I was watching live on tv when RDs shock broke on the start line of the supercross heat (don't remember which one) and I was cheering like crazy at the lcq and main when he won. Sorry I don't have insider info of whether he went back to the air shock or has stuck with the coil spring since then, i cant see the shock on Youtube.

If you watch the 450 moto 1 you can hear Erin(?) Talk about RD testing suspension. Its not that long into the moto. If you listen to shorts interview with Matthes he says "I haven't been loving my bike" and specifically points out the suspension.

The first line of that post was poorly chosen but the real question was backed up by 2 current examples.

I actually want KTM and Dungey to get it together and challenge for first every race

I believe Dungey has struggled with setup since the Suzuki 450 days.

He is faster than 38 guys every race. Sometimes 39. Don't think the bike is holding him back one bit. Sometimes you get beat by a rider who is faster or because you had bad luck. Did his suspension get worse since last year? Probably not. There are 38 or 39 guys each week who would kill to have what he has.

Nothing is wrong with the KTM... RV is just on another level right now. Think RV is just pushing the limits a little bit further than Dungey right now. Although I've been really impressed with Dungey so far... seems like both Ryan's are pushing a pace that JS doesn't want anything to do with. I mean the dude is getting dropped by 20 sec or more a moto! WTF

By my eyes, once Villopoto got on the 2012 bike with its revised chassis he just looked better. Seemed to be able to lay it over more in the corners and seems to be able to get on the gas early exiting tight corners doing more "rear steering" with it. Sometimes gets close to sliding out the rear but always seems to catch it before he gets in too much trouble. Maybe the launch (traction) control helping him Smile .

He's always had superior corner speed but Dungey is often right there with him. They both appear to be doing most things right so even small differences in their bikes setups can be coming into play.

RV is definitely killing it there is no doubt about that. He has been all year. Just thinking that it looks like RD is having to wrestle more try to match pace and that's not his style really. Maybe he needs to let it move around on him more and not fight it.

Still think Short looked better on the honda in beginning of the supercross season.

If Shorty is having so many problems, why then did he do so well when he first got on the KTM with so little testing? Maybe he just needs to start at square one and go from there???
With RD, I think they are always searching for better and better, and when you do that, inevitably, you are going to go backwards once in a while. It's just a bump in the road.

I ll tell ya what. ive owned an 11 250 sx, 12 250 sx, between the 2 ive spent close to 5 k in revalves, mx tech which is sopposbly the best with ktm, and I hated all of them. I love ktm dirt bikes I think they make the best bikes period. I bought a 13 ktm 450sxf, sold the stock wp stuff, and bought full ohlins. by far the best $$$ I ever spent! that said my 13 ktm 450 is the best bike ive ever owned.

Listen to the interview on pulpmx, he doesn't sound very psyched on it which sucks.

Odd thread. I feel KTM is the shit right now. They own the GPs, Enduro, won 450 last year in the US, won the 250 class in SX, and is now leading the 250 class. I can really picture how it's possible to find that team (with it's suspension) being any less? It's like saying good looking women are ugly? WTF.

As a racer, I would follow DeCoster employments like a leach.

For me RV looks RC-ish right now, doesn't matter what you ride, he's going to smoke you, no excuses.

Just saying.

My crappy WP suspension keeps costing me the overalls at the AMA Dual Sport events. But what can you do, the Japs don't make street legal dirt bikes do they?

Rocketsocket26, you need to hire a tuner to go to the tack with you. That would be money well spent.

Hate to break it to you but if they lined up and switched bikes next weekend....the results would be the exact same. RV is a hair better than RD right now.

I suspect something different here as well, but haven't heard how its different. Just seemed he got along much better with the bike after the 2012 change. Before that his riding seemed more upright similar to Dungey's style now. Hard to believe the competition hasn't got a handle on how it was changed and improved. Maybe they do but haven't been able to put it into their production bikes yet?
