As a guy who grew up racing BMX in Nor Cal., moving to So. Cal to race Pro BMX (roomies with GuyB in the early 80's), and then a long career as Director of Marketing for GT Bicycles, I sat in my living room thinking how proud am stoked I am to be part of that sport.
I got into it because I wanted to be an mxer but couldn't afford it so swtiched to BMX. Seeing a bunch of guys/kids who use to race for us at GT (Donny Robinson-USA, Thomas Allier-France, "Afro Bob" Robert DeWilde-Netherlands) on that track was really cool.
For those of you who don't know "GT on GT BMX bikes was started by two guys Gary Turner and Richard Long. I worked for Richard before he was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1996 just a week before the Atlanta Games where his dream of seeing the GT name was going to be on the track events. He would be so stoked to see his favorite bicycle sport and company name in Bejiing.
For some more interesting reading on Richard Long check out the blog at:

And Stephon, that was Clint Miller on the cover of GuyB's shot not Eddie King (brother of US BMX Team Manager, Mike King)

A lot of guys do a trick called a slingshot were you time the cadence of the gate pull away and sling forward having your momentum going before the gate moves. If you miss time however, its messy sometimes.
Good work back then. Can you believe that was a quarter century ago?
Ugh.
Post a reply to: Olympics BMX. Not exactly moto...
