I started coming to his little web site all those years ago when there was nothing else like it. I'll never forget the same- day digital photos he posted of the races from his 2MP toy digital camera (cutting edge at the time).

Steve was one of the trail blazers for moto on the web, He will be missed.

If there is a heaven, I hope he is there and pissed off because he was wrong about religion all those years.

Godspeed Steve

Very sad news.

As has been said, TFS pretty much invented moto internet. He was always really cool to me and as much as I struggled at first to accept that the shock spring had nothing to do with seat bouncing I came to agree with him and bowed to his superior knowledge of physics. He was a rocket scientist after all.

Very smart guy and a great loss.

RIP Steve

Thanks for all the images captured in mx/sx that most of us would have just missed if he had not captured it through his lens. RIP TFS.

He was a true pioneer and a huge advocate for the sport. I am glad for the chance to have known him...even though I was just a an acquaintance at a few nationals a year, he always treated me like a friend and was happy to engage in moto/photo conversation. My condolences go out to his close friends and family...
A little something that has been on my office board for years that will now carry a different meaning - RIP TFS.

Adious Steve, a good friend and great inspiration for me starting my art career. You will be missed buddy and the MXDN press room will be a poorer place with your passing!

Godspeed Steve, your time on earth may have been short, but your memory will last forever!

Hopefully in the future the MX press gang can get together and organise a fitting tribute to Steve, perhaps a trophy or award in his name?

Wow this is sad news. I too can remember finding his little website years ago now when I was looking for online moto news. That grassroots site was awesome for the daily arguments and bench racing as well as the insider information. I can't claim to have ever met the man and don't frequent these boards often but I usually enjoyed Steve's posts and his wealth of knowledge in so many subjects.

Will miss your posts and opinions, Steve. RIP.

It'd be cool if some big MX publication (RacerX or something like that) did a nice, long story on Steve.

So glad to see he made such an impact on so many, I hope it can ease some fraction of the pain for his family and friends. I mean they can really be proud. I will truly miss his brain, one of a kind, no person can really fill his shoes...

Godspeed, Steve. I hope you're in a better place, and the wifi is free and fast...

TFS truly helped us figure out the internet, and he rode herd on digital photography, kind of like Slim Pickens on that atomic bomb at the end of Dr. Strangeglove.

The last real conversation we had before it went sideways for us, he was staying in the TFS Ego Mobile (his name for it) in the Racer X parking lot and accidentally set the alarm off on the building. I got up there just after the police when the police were just getting ready to knock on the door of his camper, so they went with me instead to reset the alarm, then left. I went back to check on Steve and when he opened the door a cloud of pungent smoke literally came billowing out. He was in the middle of "de-tuning" when the cops showed up and he panicked and thought, better just smoke all I got! He couldn't stop laughing but I was sweating bullets that he came that close to being arrested for marijuana possession outside Racer X...

A true pioneer on the moto web and digital photography. He inspired me to further my freelancing skills. Loved sitting down with him and learning how to shoot an Olympus E-10 indoors back in '99 or so. He and Ray Gundy would go out of their way to help at the Arenacross and Supercross Series. I even interviewed him once and what a story he gave. The man will be missed, sad, sad, day. I'll always brag about you Steve on how helpful you were and how great of a photographer you were. You will be missed.

i started working with steve when he still had his "day job" at the airlines.
since then we teamed up for probably more than 100 races. over that time our relationship went from me pointing him towards the "right person", to years later when i'd call him to get a phone, email, IM handle for the "right person".
steve seemed to know everybody and everybody seemed to know steve.

i couldn't count how many times we were in the parking lot for hours after a race, burning CD's and talking. most times, the security guys had to kick us out to finally lock the place up.
for years i archived every photo steve shot. at times there were so many that we'd just rail through them quickly to find a particular shot for a particular client's needs. neither of us has ever seen all the photos he shot. we just didn't have the time.

he really loved that motorhome he bought from david vuillemin. as an engineer, he kept that thing running long beyond the point where it should have been taken out and shot. he even re-wired my garage so he could plug the great white whale into the house when he stayed here during west coast events. he had a muiti-year war with the generator in that thing. he refused to give up until he won.

he was really proud of losing all that weight and feeling so much better. a quick look in his fridge told you that even a rabbit wouldn't survive on what he ate. but it worked for him and he was always pushing me to try it.

ricky carmichael loved the guy. steve was very proud of the fact that ricky invited him to his small, private bachelor party...and asked him to take pictures. steve was a guy you could trust with something like that.

last weekend i heard both jeff emig and RC use the term "seat bounce", one of steve's passionate subjects. it immediately made me think of steve, wonder if he was watching, assumed that he was, and knew he'd be laughing.

i don't think he ever quit taking pictures. after retiring from the weekly grind of the races, he was relaxing in a campground when a storm showed up. he sent me about 50 photos, shot throughout the day, showing the campground progressively submerging. he waited until the motorhome started to float before pulling out of there.

over the years steve had to make a lot of difficult, life-changing decisions. some were work related. some personal, but each time he had to choose a path, he took the time to analyze it from as many angles as possible.
the last time i saw him struggle was over accepting the job at nasa. it wasn't the job he was worried about, but rather the fact that by taking that job, he was having to say good-bye to many of the close relationships he'd formed in the motorcycle industry. the new job just didn't allow the freedom or time to keep those relationships going. that really bothered him.

i'm sure there's lots of steve bruhn stories. he had lots of friends, over 2,600 just on his facebook page alone. he was one of those guys who could meet somebody once, and not only remember their name, but where they worked, where they worked BEFORE that, and etc...

i don't think steve ever realized how much of an impact he had on the sport. if he did, i never heard him brag about it. i wonder how many people got excited enough after seeing one of his photos, to go out and start a racing career. betcha there's a lot of them riding now, who wouldn't be, if it wasn't for steve.

i won't be getting those phone calls or emails from steve any more.
when steve would call and ask how you were doing, he actually wanted to know.
i won't hear about rockets, or cats or doctor diets anymore.
it's sad, but comforting to know that his talent and effort will still be felt for years to come.
i'll miss steve, but i'll never forget him, because to live in the hearts of those left behind, is not to die.
