Just wanted to share this. Went to the big meet and greet at Carter Mototsports in Vegas last night, and watched my friends kids wait in line for over an hour for the autograph signing.
This is the big signing outside of the track.
The signing started at six, and about 7:15, the Ktm team (Dungey, Roczen, Musquin), and the Kawi team, (Villo, Davalos, Weimer, Rattray), just get up and split with 50+ people left in line.
Really guys???
Thanks to Canard, Barcia, Hahn, Tomac, and Osbourne for hanging out and waiting for everyone in line to come through. The Carter people had capped the line, and said no more could join much earlier, but these guys can't wait another 15 mins so all these kids aren't disappointed?

Though I am not a fan of Honda the company that is cool that they hung out and finished the autographs, Good on them.

I'm suprised at KTM, especially RD (both of them). Team Villosaki? Not so much...

Good on Team Muscle Milk Honda for really caring for the fans.

I know a certain Kawi rider that would sit in his van in between practices and turn people away that wanted an autograph while he was at a local track back home..he happened to ride for a Honda team at that time

Hmm wonder where she was..... See he already has his bad Karma back.

Bad deal for you guys last night though. Maybe they can get one from them at the race today if they even still want one.

Cool story to hear about the Honda guys going the extra mile to make a child's day, week, month, or year!

Anybody who has met a hero as a child knows how great of an experience it is; and you know signing autographs probably isn't the most exciting thing for some of those guys.

I feel in respect to the Pro's in our sport, they have gone down hill on the approachability aspect over the last 10-15 years.. Used to be you could see one out somewhere or show up at the track by themselves and just hang... now it feels like they dont want bothered while sitting there signing...

all these people who have worked their arse off for months on end, and now won't give something to everyone who wants it, even when they want it for free. they just must be real mean people.

Your post is certainly ironic in that the riders that left early did as little as possible to get by and meet contractual obligations.

The riders that stayed went the extra mile to ensure a job well done.

Surely a staunch tea party loyalist such as yourself could appreciate this rationale?

That's absolute bullshit of an excuse. Without the fans, there is no show. With no show comes not 6-7 figure contracts. No money means they're all working construction. You can say they don't owe the fans anything all you want but that's simply not true. And I've known plenty of people buy a certain brand different than they normally would when it came time for a new bike because of this.

You can say they don't owe the fans anything all you want but that's simply not true. And I've known plenty of people buy a certain brand different than they normally would when it came time for a new bike because of this.
Gonna need some pliers to get the hook out of this guy. It's in there deep!

I think the "show" is putting far more time constraints on these fellas.

As a kid, I met Billy Liles with my dad. He sat and talked to us for 30+ minutes. These riders do not have the time with radio, TV, event interviews, press conferences, practice, work out, testing, race..... where is personal time?

This is the cost of going main stream. Many benefits.... however, there is cost

well some people seem to think they (the riders) have no life.

an autograph session has to end at sometime, it's great that Honda stuck around, a post complimenting them is fine. but why mention the others (even making sure to name each one) and frame them as bad guys?

7 pm sounds like dinner time to me, sounds like maybe a pro athlete may need to get down the road and prepare. they certainly don't need to be denigrated simply because they stuck to what was probably the specified times of the event.

Not all of them. I was walking though the pits at Thunder Valley a few years ago, and there was Mike Brown, working on the front brake of his Zuke with his own two hands (and a big hammer). He said, "Hi!" And stopped to talk for a while. My son was stunned, he didn't know big time riders could actually talk to fans if they wanted to. I told Brownie that all the over-40 guys would be cheering for him the next day and he gave my son an autograph. Very cool guy. Then I told Steve that in the old days, you'd walk through the pits and see guys like Marty Smith or Bob Hannah sitting in lawn chairs by a box van, sleeping between motos. No big deal.

I remember one race when my old riding buddy Lyle Lovett pitted next to Kent Howerton. We were really jazzed, pitting next to a star. I wonder if Lyle still laughs about that?

so, these riders are not signing autographs in these kids' houses. Shouldn't the riders also feel happy the kids (and their driving age parents) "took the time" to drive to the dealership to see their heroes?

Everyone has lives and nobody deserves anything. That is applicable to both sides here and all parties in life for that matter.

There are just some guy's who are good with the Fans and some who are not.

Travis Pastrana has to be one of the all time best. Osborne does a great job too.

I'm all for the top guy's having boundaries but leaving young kids waiting in a line that has already been closed is bad form unless it's absolutely necessary.

back in the late 90's someone wrote into Cyclenews complaining that Jeremy McGrath had snubbed them for an autograph.

someone who had been around JMG that weekend replied and laid out the weekend that he had been through and it was surprising just how much the guy was expected to do (and oh yeah, he had to race a race at the very highest level also). It was instructive..

when I consider that this is Championship weekend for 2 of them, and a battle for 2nd in the 450's for another, and they've be so ridiculously focused since the first week of January and they will remain that way until ... when is the Des Nations? October?

there's going to be times along the way, that the guy who drove his kids down to the local shop will end up without anything. I'm good with that, I guess some people aren't. I just figure I'll provide my opinion while I wait for practice to start, which I essentially will watch for free... then watch them race the entire night essentially for free. sorry can't stop myself.

as I'd pointed out further up, having a post praising the Honda guys for staying past the schedule to hook up some kids is cool. a post that seems to also try to injure other riders for doing what was scheduled seems unnecessary.

i see the point many are expressing, i'm attempting to point out other possible ways to view the situation.

This is about the 4th time I have heard of Dungey blowing people off. Me and my son twice. Once at Red Bud (we were the only ones standing there) and once at STL SX. Standing with Roger, Roger signed my kids shirt, Dungey walked off.

I do not really care for his antics but the best rider who I have seen care the most for his fans is Mike Allessi. Came out of his semi from a break and walked out and signed my kids shirt.

And of course Kevin Windham.
