From my point of view the duals are easier to meet the 115db 2 Meter Max FIM sound requirements. Looks like it goes to 112db in 2014. Fact is muffler construction is getting more complicated, expensive and restrictive. With the duals we have two ten inch mufflers to dampen sound with compared to ten to fifteen inch single. There is no argument that you can make more power from a single when noise is not an issue but with the new sound regs I prefer the duals. Also don't compare what 450 and 250 factory supported teams are running for mufflers because you can't buy the mufflers or the electronics.
FIM 2013=112 dB.

I'm not sure how you open the tank without dirt falling in though.

How about we put a set of these on there. That would bring back the 70's.

Well, you don't know, understand or even have a clue about "Mass Centralization".
it feels Soooo much lighter than it is; hence, they got it right...

MASS CENTRALIZATION.

Go chat with The Ryno on this one. MC, too. This is where some of you imply that they're just sell outs or they don't care; bacause, they dont have to pay for anything...blah, blah, blah.

Ryno ran Duals on some of his Suzuki 450s. MC got to test Singles straight-up against Duals. Back to back. Guess what he picked...? Ask the Euro-Factory Honda guys how much THEY'VE HATED the POS hangin' off the side of their bike BEFORE the "New-Dually"...did you ever get a good look at that Suit-Case that was hanging off of the '11-'12 HRC bikes? Yech!

Also, Honda did this BEFORE the "Noise Problem" ('06-'09 CRF250R...remember?) and now it's back and gives them a little extra capability to handle noise.

So, some of you can jus' keep whinning about the "Duals" and the rest of us will just run'em..
Because, we can.

I'm jus' sayin'...
Finally, a voice of reason...

hmm, most the pros I know that run Honda 450s and don't get help directly from Honda run a single.

Seems to be cut and clear, but I still don't get why they ditched the idea between 2010-2013 then? And I don't get how how they are unable to quit them down with one muffler when they managed to do it pretty damn good with the CRFX? I run one of those mufflers on my 250R, it was claimed 89 db (or 87?), and the bike became quite like a mouse, power was still decent, but it was actually annoying hearing all the noises from the engine, like cam chain, valve train and valves and the sucking from the intake!

Crazy, I newer felt that mass thing of centralisation on the 2007 CRF250 either, but I'm no MC, but I actually think did notice the 4 lbs extra weigth it carried compared to the FMF full Ti system I switched to. So mass centralisation is good? Despite if it carries 3-4 lbs extra?

Funny thing is with the FMF power core, with quite insert, the bike became noticeable quiter than the standard twin, huge diff, and added noticeable more power.

Maybe different with this brave new attempt, but twin pipes on 2006-2009 made no sense for me at all at the point, and voila here we go again, same arguments...

I'm sure Dungey would approve of this design. Looks sick!! I like the separate vent hose too.

Yep - so comical that we will have big smiles on our face as we take delivery of our new 2014. Will be first in line just like I was with my 450. Let me guess, you are an expert on Honda's from your own ownership of them and have deduced that the engineers have made a drastic mistake.

I'm not a huge fan of the new CRF styling, but I think they look alright. Whether the the dual muffler set-up is a marketing ploy or if it has some actual performance advantages (sound reduction, mass centralisation etc), it alone would not put me off the bike. I loved the '13 CRF450 that I rode.

If this was a 2 stroke you would have nothing but great things to say about it.

the aesthetics are nice sure, they're nice looking bikes. In fact i think all of the bikes look great. but the duals have got to go, i don't buy this "weight distribution" bs, i would guess its mostly about getting the sound down, and/or making money off of dual's when the rider wads it up. Just one other thing you have to pay for. If i'm spending 8-9k on a new bike it better have hydro clutch, i mean REALLY? is it that hard to throw on a magura clutch? it would slightly justify the price. Not saying the bikes are overly complex because of the duals, bc that's the least of the problems. But losing weight on the front end with air forks, and then gaining it back + more with the duals is just plain stupid.

the duals are a load of stinky dog poo, they should sell a single with a normal left side # plate and be done with it. Not that i would buy one either way. You can take it as progression all you want. Ok efi i sortof get, electric start is pushing it, dual exhaust? nope. No hydro clutch? why is the consumer spending 9 grand again?

So I assume your question around what the customers gets for 9 grand also applies to other manufacturers eh? As they are all basically around the same price, in fact i think the hondas are one of the cheaper ones funnily enough.

If all you twin pipe haters are so concerned about them and thats the reason why you wont buy one then thats a bit of a joke, if it isnt the main reason then why complain about it? oh you dont like hondas....ok i get it now...

Check out the '14 Yamaha tank, the gas cap is hidden under the seat (the seat is 2 pieces) from the guys at MOTO
