Like someone said. How many KTM's do you see running in the Nationals and Supercross here. You don't ever see "privateers" on them. That alone should tell you something right there. The only people riding them are Factory riders because they NEED factory parts and then some.
It wasn't a factory KTM rider that gave Tim Ferry, all he could handle at the Colorado national, was that not a privateer??

YAM336 although I have read some things from you that make sense you seem to have a lot of inconsistency in you posts on a lot of subjects which result in people calling you out all the time. Not having a go at you, as I don't really agree with all the bad mouthing of people it's just an observation.

So, can someone explain exactly why KTM are winning and doing so well in GP's, which are the roughest tracks you will find anywhere in the world with Jonathan Baragan, winning the most GP's so far this year in MX1 on the 450 and if it were not for a couple of unlucky Gp's, where he DNF'd through no fault of his own, he would most likely be leading the championship, but still, they are no good for AMA nationals, what's so special or different about your tracks than the rest of the world, nothing from what I've seen and I've attended a few nationals in my time.

Face it. KTM has not had an ELITE level rider on the 450, in the US, yet. No Bubba, no Reed, no KTM, etc. Till they buck up, Id say its all a mute point. Non of the other riders have really improved or declined in thier performance on it. So, till its proven otherwise, I think its a worthless arguement.

Now, the 2003 KTM frames, were known to flex in the whoops, causing the bike to swap. The tested Langstons bike, I believe it was with little laser alignment monitors, and the found that the frame was flexing back and forth pretty bad. I think Langstons performances on the 250 were fairly accurate to how the machinery was. However, that also is a mute point, cause he has crashed his brains out on every brand now. What if RC and James had kept racing? Would he have lost by only a few points then? Don't tell me I don't know what goes on in a "privateer" effort. A very goof friend of mine does that very thing. He also happens to ride a KTM 250F as his dad is a dealer. He is very much looking forward to getting back on a Zuk. If you read the majority of the posts, we were not talking about the sales to off roaders. We were maily talking about the 450 and its results in MX and SX as a whole. Thank you for your time though.
What ifs don't count in racing.
You do NOT know a true privateer effort first hand brain surgeon.
Quit using the "I heard; have a good friend, someone said" nonsense.
I sponsored and wrenched for a Nat. rider for many years so talk your nonsense to someone else who's stupid enough to fall for it.

Rider motivation, skill development, emotional development and health play a much bigger part in MX/SX results than any mechanical factor.

Good point tunedlength. Numerous riders over time have fallen short of expectations due to those things you point out while on outstanding equipment.

The GP's are more like a natural terrain track like a GNCC or works race where the no linkage monster does really well. It seems when you put a ton of man made things on the track like we have in SX and also have on the outdoor tracks in the states the KTM's don't do as good. But like I have said in the past it might be the bike, the rider, the team, or a combination but something is not right at the KTM rig. One thing that baffles me with KTM is it seems this no linkage thing is a pride issue to them now. There is no reason to not put linkage on the bikes if it will make the riders more comfortable.

The REASON that you dont put a linkage on, is because the average person, is a freaking IDIOT. The amount of mis-information, even on a website of posers like this, is borderline rediculous. I dont care if the KTMs have a linkage or not. They are putting one on in 2010, due to public perception. And, thats not to say that a website like this even remotely has an influence on something like this.

If a bike doesnt have a linkage, and the suspension is a bit quirky, it must be the linkage right? That is faulty, contrived reasoning. Maybe, they just havent got the shock quite figured out yet. Geez, the 91 CR250 had a linkage, and was probably one of the worst suspended bikes ever freaking made. Must have been the linkage. They should have took it off.

Hmm... why do we have 4 strokes now? Thats funny, they are more expensive to fix, louder, less reliable, heavier, and just as dirty as a clean two stroke.

Public perception, and people in power making decisions, when they have no damn idea what the actual truth is, are making these decisions. Are we better for the public pressure and perception? Oh geez yeah. These four strokes have made a real improvment in motocross. NOT!!!

All you bashers keep posting stuff about things you have no freaking clue about. Its quite funny actually.

336, your poser freind with the KTM dealership dad... whats he going to blame his poor results on, when he sucks on the Suzuki too? The linkage? Pffffffffffft.

Actually Tyson doesn't suck on the KTM. He is just not as comfortable on it at speed as he is on a Zuk. His dad owns 800 MX Park and is Pro Actions biggest suspension guy in Kentucky. He just became a KTM dealer there as well. Tyson is at Milsaps training facility between Nationals. That's hardly a poser fuckwad! www.800mx.net

How Many riders accomplish the above on any brand? using this as a yard stick (unless I misunderstood your premise)I would have to stay clear of kawasaki.
I think this is probably more an indication of how dangerous the sport is in general.
I don't have a dog in this race, however I do find this KTM (no linky no worky) topic fascinating.

Does anyone really think KTM is incapable of building a linkage? They have it on their street/dual purpose bikes. If it worked better would they not put it on their MX'ers? Linkage is not a engineering marvel. KTM would put it on their bikes and have when the situation would work better. I've owned KTM's with linkage and without. Both had outstanding suspension for their intended purposes. While I am not currently a top level pro rider, I do have past pro level MX experience. I know when a suspension is working or not, and how to make it work if is doesn't. I will also leave the engineering to the engineers and have confidence that they will put the proper suspension under the machines I buy. BTW, they also use to say the same things about Husqvarnas twin shock set-up. This was changed to satisfy the consumer, not because they thought it didn't work.

According to KTM they are not putting a Linkage on the bike in 2010, it will only be a new frame design but they will retain the suspension as it

Why would you stay clear of Kawi? They have had Stewart winning and Ferry within the top 5 for a few seasons. Within the same time frame, Kawi was in the same boat, but has definately come on very strong in the past few seasons. KTM has not even come close to the same results. I think it's kinda scarry when your teams press release reads "KTM rider finishes 16 race season, looking to carry momentum into outdoors." Honestly, that was a first for KTM this year with Wey and his SX season, despite missing 2 rounds with pneumoina.

Hell, even before RC, Suzuki was on the map more than Kawi, but not even as dominant as Honda or Yamaha, but KTM might as well been Husky or Cannondale. I'm not claiming the bike sucks or whatever, I'm just looking at the results. Until this year, nobody even finished a full season on one, that does not inspire confidence. In response to your post, which bike would you ride if given the choice, the Kawi or the KTM? I would think 9 of 10 would go green, their results lately have definately moved them up the ranks. At the pro level, these guys appear to struggle with the bike, the results support that, the missed races support that, the incomplete seasons support that, the riders moving on support that as well as other factors. In the US series, I would think Laninovich has the longest tenure with KTM, nobody seems to want to renew with them, right now, the writing is on the wall.
8/9/2008 10:26pm
No linkage? Perfect. They dont need one. They need to spend more time getting the shock right. You can currently bolt a new Ohlins TTX shock on, and it improves the bike IMMENSLY. The guys that I have heard from, are saying it even makes the forks feel incredible. Kinda blows the linkage idea out of the water.

Anyways, the KTM bashing used to be kind of cute, when intelligent people would do it. Now, we have 338 and retards like that, that should just be thought of as idiots. But, he opens his mouth, and removes all doubt.

You were talking about injurys correct? If not I am sorry I am not following.

Did Stewart finish the supercross season without injury?

Did They have one rider complete both? I think Ferry had a few problems. I believe there was a lot of races missed by these guys.

I personally don't think the dynamics of the bike was the cause in either case.

In general, I'm talking about racing an entre series, maybe one race missed or something, but for the most part, starting and finishing the series. I'm not just using this year either. Ferry still got 6th this year, Wey 9th both missed a race or two. Compare that to last year when Alessi mised more than half the season. In general, a top ten finish in any series is still a success more so than a failure. Alessi in SX on the KTM was a failure in that he missed a majority of the races. Last year, Ferry had a good season, Stewart won a WSX season and battled RC, outdoors he was out,but all the while, he was winning races despite not finishing each series. As for KTM, along with not completing a series, they were not even winning races, not even the podium. With Kawi, you have the bad, not finishing the series, but you also have the good, race wins and podiums. With KTM, you have the bad, and the worse. In SX, there was no good, n outdoors, 800 was the only highlight. Add that up every year since 2000 and Kawi shines more than KTM right. There was always the bright side for Kawi, for KTM, not so much. I am not saying the bike caused the injuries, I'm simply saying that results are not there for KTM riders and on that team, minor accomplishments are viwed as huge victories.

Hey dumb fuck read the whole post. Maybe you are French Canadian and you cant read English so I will forgive you for not reading…

"But like I have said in the past it might be the bike, the rider, the team, or a combination but something is not right at the KTM rig. "

You can call me whatever you want but seeing the bikes at the Nationals is what I base my opinion on. The riders even when going fast didn’t seem very comfortable on them.

Seems logical that one can come to the conclusion that KTM is not competitve here, for whatever reasons.
How many? Dude, KTMs are an emerging brand in the US. Have you seen a GP race? KTMs are basically the pro circuit kawis for europe in the lites class. Thats the best way i can describe it, and quite a few of them are beating Cairoli this year, there is nothing wrong with the bikes.

When Nick Wey rode for suzuki he wasn't that great, so its not the ktm....
Really??? He got 5th in SX and 7th outdoors. All this while everyone else was on 450's, Suzuki was still running the 2 strokes. On inferior equipment, he ran behind RC, Windham, Reed and DV in MX, thats not so great in your eyes. WOW, you're hard to please. I guess his podiums in SX on a privateer Honda are "not that great" either.

How did Nick do on the highly funded/supported MDK Honda last year? I think we may be seeing the downside of a typical bell shaped curve.
For the record I hope not.

Highly funded? Are you sure about that. Nick was doing well until an injury(concussion). Follow that up with bike failure after bike failure. Look at what MDK started that year. They started doing their own modifications, both motor and suspension and who had to run MDKmotors? Thats right, both DV and Wey and neither could get in a 40 miniute practice session without grenading one. The year before, PC motors and better results Kinda tough for 2 nationally ranked riders being guinea pigs for a up and coming motor mod company, where would your confidence be? New stickers on a bike every moto does not equal a well funded race team.
