I worry about that all the time. It makes me want to go out and check my shed to see if my mx and street bike are still there.

you and me both.......I just had my truck broken into and the little pukes were so stupid they did not steal the good stuff (tools and a new helmet in there) just took some cd's. The worst part was in snowed 5" in my truck.

I sort of know how he feels.
Me and the missus were looking after the inlaws dog and in the middle of the night it starts yapping. I got up to kick it but noticed some noise in the back garden. Looked outside and the thieving *uckers were helping themselves to my bikes. I grabbed a kitchen knife and ran out the back in the nude and they were gone. There is a small park with trees next door and i was running around like Rambo in the nude expecting them to jump from behind a tree. The missus came out with a gown to cover up my crown jewels. After that it was pat on the head for the dog, extra locks on the gates, roller doors and sheds and all the insurance i could afford.
I hate those animals and it is the same in every country. Why don't they go out and get a job and buy their own shit!!!

I've never purchased it before, but it's time to get my bikes insured. The cost of insurance is soooo cheap ... just been too lazy to make the call ...

Shitty shitty shitty! Sounds like he wasn't at home, but this is one of the reasons I just put in a security system with full on protection in my garage. Also, the reason I put absolutely no sticker on my trailer telling people what is inside. With that said if some shit sac wants my bikes I'm sure he will find a way. Good luck to your buddy on getting them back. Any distinguishing marks, stickers, accessories on the bike?

If you can't afford to lose it, you should have it insured.

With the price of bikes nowadays.... I don't want to insult anybody but you would have to be an idiot not to have it insured. Sorry for your buddy though, that royally sucks.

Side note, my buddies bike was stolen off of his trailer when we were in high school. The trailer was hooked up to a car.. he was sleeping in! Talk about brazen crooks.

I bought insurance for the first time. A fellow rider's bike caught fire on the trail and it burned completely! I'm now covered for theft, accident while being trailered and FIRE!

One thing that keeps the cost down for a dirt bike is it is usually 250cc or 450cc . Considered small.

I will see if anybody has any pictures. I know that Triangle cycles has helped him for years so Im sure it had triangle graphics on it.
I'm sure anybody from this area will know him. His name is Wess Gauldin. He is a local pro that has been around for years and now trains alot of local kids and EVERYBODY likes Wess.

Everybody that says you should have insurance is 100% correct but in this area we dont even think about that. Up untill about a year ago I didnt even own a key to my house that I built 10 years ago. I never locked my house or my garage. I do now but never did.

crazy ted My son just told me that he didnt really have anything on the bike because he just picked it up. He only got to ride it twice and we saw him yesterday at Hog heaven with it. Anything you could do to help would be great.

Thanks again.

User760A, Thanks alot. I will pass this onto him tomorrow when I see him at the track. That would be something if that was his bike.
Thanks again.

Oh and for what its worth,I have been doing some work down in Fayetteville and I can see that being a good place for stolen bikes to go.

im paying $182 ($15 a month) for a year of coverage on a 2013 250sx that is still being paid off. liability, medical, physical damage, uninsured, and uninsured property damage. $250 deductible.

i honestly cant believe how cheap it was considering what can happen in the desert or on the track. im covered decently if i get whiskey throttle and send a bike into a truck or hurt a person/spectator at the track. i feel very at ease.

i could get it much cheaper with a $1000 deductible but it just makes no sense to me. rates are for southern CA so keep that in mind too.

That sucks, I know the feeling. My brand new GSXR was parked under the stairs in the breezeway at my apt & on the coldest night of the year, somebody hot wired it, broke the wheel lock & rode it off sometime around 4am. My gf at the time said she thought she heard it start up, but didn't think anything of it because she was half asleep. I was so mad, still mad to this day & it's been 8-9 years... Sick

yea it's cheap. And a miserable nightmare to try and collect after a theft. Progressive gave me some serious crap.

Make for damn sure the police fill out the report right. "FORCED ENTRY"

My police officer filled out some stupid comment said : "unforced entry" Then the insurance went to town on that. Even though I had a broken window, missing iPhone and t-handles.

Everything needs to be explained to the T, and insurance will ride your ass about it. They called numerous tracks and asked them if I raced. Blah blah blah. Then they claim not pay out on RACE bikes.....it's a royal headache......

Lag bolt your bikes to the floor and rely on your dogs to wake you up. I got hit twice this summer. In may they got my 250, in August they got nothing, the old lady scared them off with the shotgun and my dog. Dogs do a good job, never heard my dog growl so vicious in my life. Wolf-like.

My 08 250 policy was $74/year. It paid out $2810. Got additional $4,000 in aftermarket reciept coverage. Got a check for 6810-250 deductible. Went the next day and bought a 13 yz450, called Progressive back and told them to mail me the Tax check (they must pay tax on a new vehicle if purchased within 30 days of total loss settlment.

Sounds like a good deal and all, but now I have a stock bike. No suspension done, no aftermarket parts. For me to rebuild my 250 it would cost me 7100+4500. $12,600. So I take that insurance policy as a $6,000 loss. But its better than a $12,600 loss.

Just be congnizent on police filings and know the language of your policy. I just renewed my policy, now its $168/yr for the same coverage as my $74 policy.

Good advice about insurance George and what to beware of dealing with insurance companies. With the price of bikes nowadays, you have to insure them. It is hard to feel bad for folks who don't insure their bikes considering how cheap insurance is. I have never been on the receiving end of that so it is easy for me to say.

With the scrutiny on police and response times falling (and other political reasons I won't mention), I have never been more of a gun advocate than I am now. If you worry about your bikes, get yourself some extra insurance in the form of firepower. Have your gun in a easy access safe, you will sleep better.
