MC, He embodied all that is great about the sport and to this day is about the coolest dude around.

Here I am with him in his kitchen after a party. Good times.

Jeff Ward, so fast for so long, raced and won everything,

RV for the fact he keeps getting faster,

Reed for keeping on getting better when the competition changed, and also for going out on his own with a team,

Think about what Hannah might have done if not for that water skiing accident in '79. He won 20 races after he came back with Honda, so it is completely possible he could have kept winning MX/SX championships all the way to '83-'84. He SHOULD have won both MX/SX championships in '83, no one was even close but he got hurt. Same with Ricky Johnson. RC and MC were lucky that they never got seriously hurt, and I dont want that to sound like the "lucked" into anything, they didnt, but staying healthy in this sport takes an element of luck.

Eddy, are you a Florida transplant? Just asking because of your Jason McCormack entry there. Was cool to see him take a 3rd on a 500 at Washougal!

JS7, because when a saw him at muddy creek in 2001 I was in complete amazement with his speed. I could not believe how fast he was going. I have never seen anyone go so fast! And yes I've been around since the 70's and have seen all the greats!

1. Rojay DeCoastay...all time favorite. He took Joel Roberts talent and turned it into something suave and relentless at the same time. Always had an image of what he was from the races, television, magazines. When I finally met him a few times...I was not disappointed. He IS moto....truth be told, if not for him this sport wouldn't be anything today.

2. Ricky Carmichael...has ANYONE in ANY sport absolutely REFUSED to be bested for so long? There just never seemed to be a limit to how fast he could ride a dirt bike. He simply ran out of competition...(the exception was Bubba who could never seem to seal the deal when it came to Ricky).

3. Marty Smith...at 17...I wanted to BE him for sure. I got to hang out with him at Rio Bravo in "76 and he was a real decent dude.

Like everyone else...a million other guys but these were MY top guys.

Tough call for me between Ron Lechien or Broc Glover.

Lechien: Smooth, fast, style, young (My age at the time) but running with the best in the world, won races agaisnt Johnson, Bailey, Glover, Barnett, O'Mara, Ward, Hannah, etc.

Glover: Fit, winner, beating team Honda works bikes on ratty YZ490's, always impressive.

Tp 199. Similar age, and maybe the fastest guy ever in the whoops. I believe to this day that if not for a pre season crash he would have won the 03 Sx title.

JS7. Georgia dome, with San Manuel yamaha. Doing a triple on the rev limiter with a 90 degree corner shortly after the landing looking to the other side of the track. I guess looking for the second place guy when he had a HUGE lead. Also a flame came out of the pipe when this was happening. This will be an image I carry to my grave. I really wish I had a big glossy poster of this image. No matter the hate this guy gets, I still like his crash or win FTW mentality. When he was on it, he was fk'n on it giving it more than he had. I see some of this in Villopoto as well.

RC and JS7 for me.

RC for his pure dominance.

JS7 for always giving it 110%, whether it meant he had dirt samples, or won in exciting fashion. He changed the way people ride bikes today, IMO.

Yeah,I grew up in Washington.
And yeah Jason is good people, followed his entire career from when he was on minis til he retired.
Eric Hall was also from South West Washington....he did well during the 1980's.
Dude would holeshot nationals on pretty much stock bikes.
He also won the 80 class at Ponca one year....I think it was the year before they started LL's.

I agree. It wasn't unusual for Coop to come over and talk to average dudes like me at a practice track.

One time at a mx school he put on, we were working on starts and told me that I had the fastest reaction time he had ever seen. He kept me after the school to work with Kenny Bartram on his starts and then asked me to give him a ride home, and gave me the grand tour of his house and garage. Awesome Guy! lol

Eric was awesome. I had some good battles with him at washougal nat in 88. Got a wicked poster of me, him and Lowell Thomson flying off that hip before the chuck sun jump with all the crowd below.
