Oh yeah I forgot about that one, I was there in the stands. Not long after that was the horrible crash on that steep landing in the rythm section. It bit Hot Sauce too.

Worst one I've ever seen wasn't in SX or even motocross in general. 2008 in the 250cc class of MotoGP Macro Simoncelli and Hector Barbera were racing for the lead. Hector's factory Aprilia was much faster than Simoncelli's and on the main straight he kept blowing by Macro just to taunt him. After a few laps Marco got tired of it and just made a left turn across the front of Barbera while they were on the main straight. Since Macro's death the video and really almost all mention of this has disappeared from the internet, I literally can't find anything but one reference to the crash with a google search. And these are the only images of I found it.

Wow, that Simoncelli one was mental - I never saw that!

My favourite was the Canard / RV one in St Louis. Possibly because I was there and wanted the rookie to win Smile I wonder if there will be any payback or repeat of that later in the season if it comes down to RV vs Canard.

And 'one punch'? really? That guy was a complete mess.

The Supercross tracks seemed a lot wider back in the 90's, more room, more lines, more passing.

Not really a take out but Windham punting DV in Phoenix in 03 is one I think of immediately.

Outdoors how could it not be Alessi taking out Tedesco at Glen Helen in 05. And then standing on his bike!

No one mentioned Grant Langston (noticed his name a lot in this thread) taking out Mike Alessi in the last turn at Hangtown in 2005.

Also:

Josh Hansen vs. Josh Grant - Daytona 2005

Mike Brown vs. Ryan Hughest - Budds Creek 2003

Josh Grant vs. Mike Alessi - Lakewood 2009


Wish there was video of the Bonds/Langston takeout at Hangtown in 2001. Sounds like the worst one since I've been a fan of the sport.

Takeouts in supercross are good for fans sometimes because it's exciting and pretty harmless(physically) most of the time for the racers. Now that high speed takeout was completely uncalled for. Tonus could've gotten seriously injured with that takeout.... Not cool.

Does anyone remember back when Grant Langston was racing a 250 2 stroke in SX and I think Tyler Evans or someone took him out in a heat race and Langston got back up and charged up through the pack and then took the guy back out hard right at the end?

I'm pretty sure he did something like that but may have the details wrong. It was epic!

Maybe not the worst takeout ever but I will always remember Townley cleaning out Short at the Lakewood des Nations. I have never seen a crowd so pissed, dudes hanging over the banners flipping Townley the bird.

It's too bad we didn't have digital video in the 70's to watch the golden era of takeouts in HD today.

Although I will say, the chicken vs bradshaw battles were insane. Those guys were out to kill each other!

This one looks like Jake caught traction (similarly to the way Tomac did when he got together with Wilson last year) which caused him to accidentally send Hansen way wide which Hansen obviously didnt like. Deifinitely un-called for and very dangerouse nearly sending Canada into oncoming traffic.
