This is my little nephew, who got his 1st SX experience this weekend in Oakland. Amazingly, Oak was not only my 1st SX, but i was also his exact same age!! (the epic '79 Paddle Tire Debacle, i was 9yrs old, and was hoarse for 3 days from screaming for Hannah to pass Weinert) So very cool in so many ways
So, what was your 1st SX experience, where and what age?

I have zero recollection of the race other than generally where we sat and that Smitty won, but some pretty good memories of the following day at Saddleback.
Was also at the 79 paddle tire race, Scottie, that was a pretty epic day and pretty interesting to watch Hannah get sand blasted by Weinert. He was getting showered.

My son and I got to go and had "god passes" because a close friend was working for Dirt Wurx at the time.
We have also known Ziggy from FC for years since his son and mine raced together here in New England.
We got to walk the track, go to riders meeting, hang out in the press box and then go into the FC pits and sit down with Trey, Kari and Aaron Canard.
My son got to hand K-Dub a bottle of water which made his whole year....lol.
Then we go to watch Trey take his first SX pro win, Davi Millsaps got his first 450 win and my son was on TV at the end of the broadcast.
Next day we went to the DMXS Ride4AT and got to hang out with Short and Tim Ferry.
Priceless.....
Was standing 4 feet from O'Mara and Jim Felt behind their box van, lol. O'Mara's bike sounded like Felt left a rag in it, he was revving the piss out it. It seemed weird, everyone up here had an RM that seemed to work well, saw Ross Peterson win 3 classes on them one day in Moncton.
Drive back killed my 1st marriage, 32 hours straight, but it was time anyway. (2nd one 22 years, two kids, all's pretty good)
Anyway, to paraphrase Drew Barrymore, walking into that stadium of dirt with all those US stars was "magical".
Anyway, it was great. I jumped over the rail and grabbed one of Hannah's tear off's from the side of the track with a security guard in pursuit. Got a shit ton of autographs, stickers and posters in the pits as they were wide open at the time and all the racers hung out after the race. Got separated from my cohorts in crime and almost peed my pants but then I saw them and all was good again. Would hate to have been stranded 100 miles from home with about four dollars in my pocket...
I was eleven or twelve at the time and even at that age I realised we would never be able to replicate an AMA Supercross in Britain. I haven't been to a UK Supercross since.
Pit Row
marty smith pulled the holeshot, had trouble with a lapper and tripes won. i just happend to be looking at the toyota double jump when warren reid hit that wfo, i couldnt belive my eyes, and he just got up, hopped on his bike and took off like it was nothing. hannah got 4th, he was not happy, after that week, he went on a tear and won a bunch. young wonder rookie mark barnett, got a quiet 5th. got everybodys autograph after the race, we walked part of the track, collected tearoffs and stood in the daytona road course first turn where jackie stewart would always roll the tire off the bank for wide world of sports.
next day, watched kenny roberts win his first daytona 200, it was awesome, saw a race bike burn up right in front of me, and the infield crowd was something out of woodstock, unreal.
that lapper that smith had trouble with? rex staten on a bassett yammy, came back and won the darn thing 2 years later, good for him!
No more mudholes these days (unless it rains). Seeing some of the early Euro heroes out there was pretty cool, too.
