This is my little nephew, who got his 1st SX experience this weekend in Oakland. Amazingly, Oak was not only my 1st SX, but i was also his exact same age!! (the epic '79 Paddle Tire Debacle, i was 9yrs old, and was hoarse for 3 days from screaming for Hannah to pass Weinert) So very cool in so many ways Cool

So, what was your 1st SX experience, where and what age?

Anaheim December 1976. We road tripped down with four people and three bike crammed into a van, and then went to Saddleback to race the next day, and then drove back Sunday night.

I have zero recollection of the race other than generally where we sat and that Smitty won, but some pretty good memories of the following day at Saddleback.

Was also at the 79 paddle tire race, Scottie, that was a pretty epic day and pretty interesting to watch Hannah get sand blasted by Weinert. He was getting showered.

Atlanta 1995 was my first sx. I was 15 at the time and have been a fan ever since.

Pittsburgh May 78-Three Rivers Stadium - I remember there being a big opening in the crowd on the way in where someone had vomited in line LOL. Kinda drizzled the whole night. Killer seats, second row center field. I believe this was in the middle of Hannah's big win 22 moto win streak. I think Hannah was in the lead and he went down on lap 15 and got back by Tripes on lap 19. First time I ever saw someone double jump anything (Barnett)

Seattle 2009. Reed and Stewart wad themselves up in the first turn (I think) and RV gets his first 450 win in his home town. Was pretty cool.

2003 SX Masters in Sydney. Can't remember shit from it, lol

Mine and my Sons was 06 St. Louis. My son was in the KJSC. We both remember it like yesterday. Josh Hansen was the coolest guy to my kids and some guy named Ricky was the biggest snob to my kids. We also had the pleasure of going up in the Arch while Milsaps and crew went up. They tormented his mom to no end. She wouldnt even go past the stairs and had a death grip on the railing.

Daytona 2012, it was a muddy mess!

Dallas 1996 and I had just turned 10. I don't remember much to be honest. My dad worked for JRJ Paving at the time and they were the ones that hauled the dirt in and out of Texas Stadium at the time. Because of that the promoters (JAM Sports?) gave them press box passes. Not many people took them so my Dad grabbed two for him and I. We sat in the press box all night having a good time and wandering around the nicer parts of the stadium (he was probably half way to the moon on free beer, me being to young to notice). It was the last year McGrath was on red and I had an xr100 by 1998 because of it. Easy to admit that I was hooked at first site when I saw it live after not having cable and only being able to look at pictures my mom would print off the internet and bring home for me to stare at. It's been a love affair ever since.

Atlanta 2008.....after many, many years of watching on TV

My son and I got to go and had "god passes" because a close friend was working for Dirt Wurx at the time.
We have also known Ziggy from FC for years since his son and mine raced together here in New England.

We got to walk the track, go to riders meeting, hang out in the press box and then go into the FC pits and sit down with Trey, Kari and Aaron Canard.
My son got to hand K-Dub a bottle of water which made his whole year....lol.

Then we go to watch Trey take his first SX pro win, Davi Millsaps got his first 450 win and my son was on TV at the end of the broadcast.
Next day we went to the DMXS Ride4AT and got to hang out with Short and Tim Ferry.

Priceless.....

29 Tampa 89. Ward beats O'Mara. For a guy from Canada, it blew my f##$ing mind!

Was standing 4 feet from O'Mara and Jim Felt behind their box van, lol. O'Mara's bike sounded like Felt left a rag in it, he was revving the piss out it. It seemed weird, everyone up here had an RM that seemed to work well, saw Ross Peterson win 3 classes on them one day in Moncton.

Drive back killed my 1st marriage, 32 hours straight, but it was time anyway. (2nd one 22 years, two kids, all's pretty good)

Anyway, to paraphrase Drew Barrymore, walking into that stadium of dirt with all those US stars was "magical".

Houston SX 1978. I was 12, my brother was 14. My mom let us ride over with a friend whose mom and boyfriend dropped us off in front of the Astrodome and said they would be back at midnight to pick us up. Think about that for a moment.....

Anyway, it was great. I jumped over the rail and grabbed one of Hannah's tear off's from the side of the track with a security guard in pursuit. Got a shit ton of autographs, stickers and posters in the pits as they were wide open at the time and all the racers hung out after the race. Got separated from my cohorts in crime and almost peed my pants but then I saw them and all was good again. Would hate to have been stranded 100 miles from home with about four dollars in my pocket...Laughing

Pontiac 1998 I was 13. It was the year RC won his first East SX title on the number 70 PC KX 125. He was so pumped after he clinched the title that he was doing whips that would have won best whip at X games this year! It was incredible. MC Crashed out and Yogi won the 250 main. It was the crash where McGrath broke his bar mount and Ward came by and elbowed him or whatever. All the hype for this race was actually on Windam because he had just won the previous 2 rounds. I was pumped too when JSR made the main on his privateer KX and finished a respectable 12th. JSR went on to finish the SX season in 18th and 9th in the outdoors. His best season in the US.

1992 Birmingham NEC Supercross in the UK. Larry Ward won.

I was eleven or twelve at the time and even at that age I realised we would never be able to replicate an AMA Supercross in Britain. I haven't been to a UK Supercross since.

Indy '94, Lusk was the new kid on the block and I sat next to an overweight stranger that was drinking beer and eating peanuts all night. 19 years later, I'm that guy. Cheers.

San Diego in either '79 or '80. I was 8 or 9. I don't remember much about the race, but the back page of the program had a cool ad with the 1980 Honda lineup that I absolutely drooled over – especially the CR 80.

1978 daytona sx, it was my first pro race of any kind. i was 15, me and all my little friends went down, we camped out in port orange, had a blast. it was also the first time i ever been around a drunk spring break crowd. drunk college kids screaming and hollering every 5 mins .... over nothing. about 3 in the afternoon, it started raining vomit under the grandstands, i thought i was going to zook myself.

marty smith pulled the holeshot, had trouble with a lapper and tripes won. i just happend to be looking at the toyota double jump when warren reid hit that wfo, i couldnt belive my eyes, and he just got up, hopped on his bike and took off like it was nothing. hannah got 4th, he was not happy, after that week, he went on a tear and won a bunch. young wonder rookie mark barnett, got a quiet 5th. got everybodys autograph after the race, we walked part of the track, collected tearoffs and stood in the daytona road course first turn where jackie stewart would always roll the tire off the bank for wide world of sports.

next day, watched kenny roberts win his first daytona 200, it was awesome, saw a race bike burn up right in front of me, and the infield crowd was something out of woodstock, unreal.

that lapper that smith had trouble with? rex staten on a bassett yammy, came back and won the darn thing 2 years later, good for him!

First race was at the Omni in Atlanta 1987. They billed it as supercross but there weren't many top riders in attendance. Rollerball, Cooper & Mike Jones was about it. Not a single KX on the starting line all night. Whistling

'74 or so? I would have been 13, and rode an RTD bus from Riverside to downtown L.A. for the Superbowl of Motocross. Walking through the tunnel and seeing the Coliseum grass with the track surrounding it was way cool.

No more mudholes these days (unless it rains). Seeing some of the early Euro heroes out there was pretty cool, too.

First one I attended was Anaheim '89 when the O'Show led the entire main until he broke his RM in half.
