Its the large corporations that employ most and they pay barley any taxes (see General Electric) and have a strong lobby to keep things their way. If you dont see this you are in just as much denial as Euro GP promoters.
You think if every minimum wage employee made $3 more an hour BK and Wal-Mart would go out of business? It would cut into profit and investors wouldnt like it and the all so holy stock price might drop.
The unskilled employee sure as shit would have a higher standard of living and maybe could buy that shiny bike.

The above fixed costs that Newman identified are costs of an employee. They are part of the total cost of keeping that employee, and, ultimately reduce both what the employer keeps and what the employee can be paid.
No "special rights" are free. They just get incorporated into the cost and squeeze what is left. If an employer hires an employee for $50k, you can bet by the time the compliance is done the employee will cost the employer $100k. That is one of the reasons small employers work like dogs and dont hire until absolutely necessary.

When I was 16 I worked at a pizza shop near my house. Waiting tables, delivering, cooking etc. Doing whatever needed to be done. We pooled and split counter and table tips. I never left with less than $100/night. Weekends I made more. I was able to save a serious amount of money doing this. I lived at home, had a 12 year Oldsmobile that I bought off my neighbor for $650 cash. I bought a brand new 1997 RM125 off the showroom floor for $4,100 out the door. I remember vividly saving for it ... only took me a couple months, wasn't bad at all. I still have the bike and the certificate of origin.
Its like my dad used to say. "If you don't like it, do something about it. Don't preach to the choir because no one here, especially me, gives two shits how hard your life is" - love the wisdom pop! LOL
Lazy POS's shouldn't get a thin dime if they're not willing to lift a finger. Entitlement leaches are destroying this country....
Currently a lot of illegals are paying into Soc Security and Medicare but can not not draw out the benefits so their buoying up those systems currently. That'll go away once their legalized. They also don't draw unemployment benefits which reduces an employers contribution rate. These are positive aspects to the illegals working here. Many are paid competetively with their American counterparts too.
At its root though the immigration "problem" is really a "welfare" problem. If the current welfare system were not so extensive and generous for many Americans, many of the jobs the illegals are filling could be filled by American workers.
Yes, real wages have not kept up with inflation, particularly with respect to low skilled workers. That has nothing to do with motorcycling or any OEM
You need to take into account the increase in strength of the Yen versus the Dollar on the exchange rates since 1974, which actually has contributed to the stagnating Japanese economy. 01/01/1974, $1 = 298 yen; 01/01/ 2012 $1= 77 yen.

Eventually it will be cheaper to manufacture dirt bikes in the US and it will all start over again. Not for a while though.
