Is there such a possibility that he could be riding at all with a knee as bad as reported?

April? Didn't he quit the Supercross eason early get his knee fixed and then come back to a perfect outdoor season in 2008 or do I have my years crossed

Yes he could. He did it in 08. With the surgery they do now, the recovery time is much quicker. Villopoto was on the bike in three months. It's possible.

James will go as long as he can (or wants to) which in my estimation, with a few more finishes like he's had, won't be much more. He'll then drop out and opt for surgery to try and be back in '14. Another wasted year.

He should absolutly stop now and get the surgery and return for 2013 outdoors... He is not doing ANYONE a favor by being out there and not being at least competitive.

Does anyone know if his ACL in '08 was a complete tear or not? Does anyone know if this one is a complete tear or not? If I had to guess, I would say neither are complete tears. Looking back on it, people were questioning if it had something to do with Kawasaki signing with Monster and was just a ploy to sit out in 2008, as he was pissed about it. He even released a video of some sort to prove he had surgery due to all the rumors! When you look at RV's last year, he couldn't even walk. It's hard to even tell that James' is having an issue with his knee at all and he continues to claim it feels fine and is not an issue on the bike. I don't know what to think, as in typical James fashion it is bizarre. I do give him credit for being out there injured, whatever extent the injury may be. Just weird that he is fast in qualifying, doesn't blame the knee, and then is no factor whatsoever in the race. It's got to be killing him to be battling with Grant back in the pack.

If he finishes outside the top 5 next week I'd be really surprised to see him on the track again for supercross. I think he will go get surgery and show up at the outdoors.

They mentioned several times that he has been able to ride "more" now during the week so I'd say it can't be too bad or he would skip the practice...I think JT wrote up a really interesting perspective on Racerx about his take and how he had two acl injuries and how incredibly different they were (one he was back to riding 100% on it in a few weeks the other was villo style....

speaking of Villo style I am not 100% convinced that James with even three healthy knees could get in front of that monster last night...he was a full second faster than Reed and Reedy looked on point.

he needs to drop out and get fixed. NO ONE will think he's being a bitch , even his sponsors should understand,

he still gets the most coverage, air time, and excitement / drama out of ANY rider in the paddocks ( i.e. worth their patience and money )

I think he just had a bad main event-

while watching the broadcast of his heat race it looked like he wasn't doing well but if you look at his times he was actually hauling...he was the.only other guy to get in the 53's (during the heats) and a full second faster than Trey's best time in heat 1. Poto was just waaaay more consistant at knockin 3 tenths off every lap. we had last weeks winner DNF, poto has finished worse (16th), RD, Milsaps and Barcia have all hoped to be the first to see the lcq checkered flag and its only three races in....to say he needs to quit now is crazy IMO.

I am pretty sure we will not see him outdoors no matter how this goes..but It seems he is gritting this one out and I hope he does continue to get better as it's great to have him out there-

Sorry to see him go, he's a badass (was).

he was 3tenths off of RV who is riding infrickingsane right now. many guys are getting bad jumps and it's a lot of work to make it through the pack- he got pushed off the track and fell...I can't believe yall got me defending Stewart Smile

starts are big he gapped and kept Chad Reed behind him in that heat race but noone is sticking a fork in that guy...I think in the past he would quit but it seems different this year...but I get what you guys are saying from past experience-

Even if he has to miss the 1st thru 2nd/3rd rounds?

he has to be out there wearing his gear... if he pulls out now how much cash does he stand to loose without any one else wearing, promoting, marketiing his "seven" gear?

i think he should cut his losses now and make a go at the outdoors. Honestly..if i was him, i'd look into retiring.

He has enough money and he's won everything there is to win. Why ruin your body?

He could be riding well in 4 months, just in time for Hangtown. I would have surgery tomorrow and be ready asap for outdoors, rather than just riding around. Maybe give it one more week at most, no podium then get surgery. I would get surgery tomorrow though if it were me.

When I had surgery back in 2005, I felt fine after 2 months, but took it easy because the doc said to until the 8-9 month mark. LIke someone else said, if RV was riding in 3 months then Stew should have surgery asap.

I didnt think his contract with Suzuki was SX only. He needs to take care of it now and come back as strong as possible for outdoors.

Sounds like he is planning to race the Outdoors, I'd be surprised if the knee can hold up but Jason Thomas said he raced with a torn ACL for many years.

Does JS wear a knee brace? And can't the best technology today provide a brace that more or less isolates the ACL so it's not an issue?

Pretty much, other than the dealing with the foot plant in a turn.

Being on a bike in 3 months and racing the nationals in 3 months are 2 different things, imo.

You have to remember his biggest competition in 08 was Alessi and Ferry. Both fine riders but not much compared to top 5 now. He's not going to cut supercross short just to be on the line at hangtown with no realistic chance of competing the first month or two.
