As a tribute to KW14, maybe we can share some of our favorite memories of him!
For me, it was at the 2006 Houston SX. I had waited for him at his semi with everyone else who wanted an autograph, but he ended up having to go out and race a quali just to get in to the night show, so we all missed our chance.
Most everyone left when he went down to the track, but I stayed behind to see him when he got back. By the time he came back, there was already a new, long line of autograph seekers. I parked my wheelchair at one end of his paddock and he saw me sitting there and walked straight over to me and gave me an autograph!
It was an awesome moment.

also.... when he pwn'ed RC in vegas during the 125 E/W shootout....
About 3 years ago I was in line with some friends at the Honda rig and he looks and me and asks, "Sir can you tell me what time it is?"... I almost said, "Time to retire?" as a joke but was too star struck and obeyed his request.

He was riding around the pits on a 4 wheeler with his kids and hanging out and talking to everyone. Just a super cool and down to earth guy, I will miss him for sure!!!
Good luck KDub!
the win in the mud at daytona
the win at the 250 gp at budds creek.
before he signed with yamaha, he was a regular at our track, after the races were over, he would get out in full gear and practice his whips over and over on the front straight jump at west fla mx park.
visited with him in the pits at steel city, right after he found out that he would be doing the 250 gp at budds creek, he was happy about the opportunity. he treated me like family and we had a good visit.
Then K-Dub showed up at Glen Helen on a CRF450...
I was left with the impression I'm sure everyone has when Windham is "on" - how did this guy ever lose?
That was the day I learned the older guys still learn from younger riders.
Pit Row
K-Dub at his best.
In 2005 we were wide open with our Wonder Warthog Racing programs and quite a few of the top riders, including Kevin, were on board, helping us out with jerseys and gear we could auction off. At the 2005 SF round of the Supercross series I hit Kevin up early in the night to put a Flying Warthog sticker on his helmet and he said no. I'd hit him up at earlier rounds and he'd turned me down then also...I'd heard from people on his team that he was kinda superstitious and stuff and didn't like to change stuff when things were going well.
So I'm down on the floor behind the starting line taking the infamous Warthog cape off of the privateer who had done the parade lap in it, and Kevin come up to me and says, "Here, stick it right here", pointing to a spot on his helmet. I scrambled to find a sticker and put it on there, looking good! I was stoked!
Windham goes out, gets a good start and completely wads it up, going over the bars hard on the second lap. Oooops!
Next time I saw him he blamed the sticker and needless to say, never ran it again! Hahahahahaha! I love that guy!
guy was all smiles
