Windham retiring tonight....?

1/19/2013 4:15pm
Nnnnnooooooooo!! This bums me out. I realize it's all speculation until it's confirmed, but I'd say it's a good possibility based on what he's been saying and how he's been feeling on the bike. I was really looking forward to watching him in Minneapolis in a few months. Definitely better to go out before getting seriously hurt though if he isn't feeling it. There will definitely be something missing if he does decide to hang it up.

....my mind is still so sidetracked on KW...you could seriously sit and reflect on his career for DAYS! All the way back on the Yam 125, his Suz years w/ TP as his team mate, the gnarly femur break and taking a break from the sport. Coming back and running w/ RC at GH on a CRF450....it just goes on and on. LOVE THE DUB!!

personally i dont want to see a fairwell tour, i'd rather him get out healthy, enjoy his family, and get his ass in the booth.

I'm happy for him. He got to have an amazing career, is universally loved by the fans, and brought a once in a lifetime style on and off the bike to the sport. He (from interviews I've read) has not been enjoying himself this year and seemed more focused on not getting hurt then simply racing and enjoying himself. He talked about fear a few times, and I think he knew he was done at that point. I'm happy he can get out healthy, set for life, and has what seems like a terrific family to enjoy the next chapter of his life with. Don't be a stranger K Dub. Stay on doing some testing for Honda or just poke your head up once in a while for a photoshoot to remind of us how amazing your style is. Thanks for all of the memories and congrats on an amazing career. The most interesting man in all of Moto rides off into the sunset...

I'm sure he'll probably do something official at Texas. Seems like just calling it quits in California is not the way he should go out.

Congrats, Kevin. Great career. I think it's a smart move to get out in one piece. I can't wait to see the next phase of your career.

Crazy internet rumor. Kdub isn't going anywhere. At least not right now. He'll finish out the year getting stronger as it goes on (as usual), then do a limited schedule next year a'la RC.

Very sad to see him stop but so happy for him. Best decision, walk away with pride and honors and walking on his 2 legs. A gentleman of our sport is retiring.

Now, that guy is a role model!

Via racer x; @racerxonline: Ok, officially KW is only out for tonight due to bad back--but expect an announcement on more tonight during opening ceremonies.

there's only 3 guys that will or did affect me with retirement
Carmicheal
Windham
Reed

I'd get full Stevie Janowski on Windham if we ever hung out he just seems so unaffected by his skill a perfect example is those transfers..
a lesser man would be puffing his chest overstating what it takes but he's just so cool and down to earth about it

All good things got to come to an end...........

Heck, I thought the (moto) world was coming to an end when Jeff Ward retired, that was a loooooong time ago. Now this?

Gunna miss that dude out there mixing it up, week in and week out.

Least I got to see him one last time at A1.

Been a hellava ride.
Thank you Kevin

Cox confirmed it on facebook.End of 19 years for the most part up front.
4 daughters and a gym chain will keep him busy.Or will it?
Hope he has a safe night if he is racing and glad he got out healthy for the most part..
Anyone going to be the new transfer guy?
Doubt it.

The end of an era, Kevin is one of the legends of this sport. He might not have the wins but IMO is one of the greatest ever.

I wish him luck on whatever he does next.

If this is his last season that's still 20 unbelievable years.
This sport is getting scary to watch! Would love to see him retire safely to the booth for

Mad respect and wish only the best for Kevin and his family.

Sport will be losing one of the classiest guys on the tour.

@RealSteveCox Kevin Windham says he's going to stay on the tour and do transfers and stuff like that for the rest of the year.

It's strange, how you get older and all of a sudden that's what you think. All of a sudden you just want to go home safe. You can still ride and enjoy the sport after that, but you're no longer racing, you're just riding and trying to have a good time and staying safe.

It's great that he's aware enough of his own mental state that he'd say that out loud. And if this is it, the sport will have lost "a scholar and a gentleman". But at least he will walk away with a working body.

If this is it, KDub, thanks for the memories...

That's cool.
Hope he still does off races every once in a while for fun.
Would also be cool if they could get him up in the booth during some of the live broadcasts.

Gonna definitely miss seeing him out there!
