Why are people surprised?

To compete at that level requires that you be compulsive......maybe very compulsive. The level of dedication, the behavior that is required to train to that level is incredible.

In many cases it is a gradual slide toward anything that will help you achieve a goal you have set. The mind starts to justify a great number of things that really don't make sense. Training to absolute exhaustion, diets that would make cardboard seem tasty, lifestyles that most could never handle or comprehend.

Had Lance come clean years ago and simply said "hell yes we all did it" it would have passed and the world would keep turning. The denials are the source of all the hate now. Hind sight is a wonderful thing..........

Lance won titles when all the top competitors were using EPO. Lance dominated by doing it better and never getting caught. Lance had a drive to win that likely overshadowed common sense. What made him a winner also made him make decisions that are now haunting him.

Should he have lied....of course not. Should he be stripped and banned......probably not. Lets see what he does going forward. The guy has done a lot for others and may have a lot more to offer the world.

One thing MX has on cycling is that it doesn't rely 100% on the athletes fitness, like cycling does.

PED's in MX can help you, but won't make you dominant, you need a whole lot of talent and technique as well.

Your body isnt made to handle that stress for twenty one days. Its just not, no matter how much you train or ride. I believe they ALL are cheating some how.

But Lance still had to ride the bike in the fashion he did. He was the best in a world full of cheaters.

My issue is this, he was implicated based on the words of others, who were paid by the USADA. They got to keep their winnings and also keep their right to race, but they admitted they cheated also. So you can pay a cheater to snitch on another cheater and they get to keep racing and thats ok?

They have this hard on for Lance and its funny that it is coming from the Americans. Its also funny the USADA was paid by an unnamed person to start this investigation and to make sure Lance was stripped of his titles.

And Lance will never admit he cheated to the USADA, they wanted him to tell them he did so bad and were so pissed and upset that he went to Oprah instead. You can bet your ass he will never tell them what they want to hear. Effectively ending their investigation with out a confession. He wont give them that satisfaction.

I think he already met with them (USADA) prior to going on Oprah. The only reason he is doing any of this is so that he can get back into competition (triathlon). Therefore he would have to speak/admit he doped to USADA wouldn't he? What other reason does he have for coming clean? Certainly not concience I wouldn't think.

That was what really stunk about the whole thing. The USADA went on a witch hunt for one guy because he had a big name, big ego and lots of money. Besides that, some of the regulations were ridiculous - you could get DQed over antihistimines. As far as character is concerned, I don't think the wheels at the USADA were any better than the guy they finally drove out of business. The whole thing was really pathetic on both sides and I hope motocross avoids it.

I agree whole heartedly with IceMaan446.

Unfortunately Whknuckle, it's coming to MX. What people fail to realize is that because NO ONE stood up to the USADA, no one or no sport is safe. A precedence is set. And for those piling on and talking shit, don't be so niave that your favorite rider isn't taking anything. There's a good possibility that he is. Its widely known that one of the "top trainers" has said openly, "it isnt cheating unless its defined as being illegal in the rulebooks. And in the AMA, narcotics and amphetemines are all they test for.

Do allot of the top TDF riders cheat? I believe so. Lance was just that bit better at cheating then the rest of the field, so he was able to kick ass and keep himself clean and fair to the public.

If 'cheating' with doping was allowed then riders wil cheat something else.

JBlain - A former cyclist and Ironman triathlete that you and I know well said " you had to be pretty stupid to think that the stuff the team managers were giving us wasn't banned".

The fact is Lance and USADA got in a showdown and Lance likely should have admitted it and then used his influence to do something about the use of PEDs. He would have been forgiven and likely treeted as a hero for stepping up.

He was the target because he was the most visable.......if you are hunting you shoot at the target that is easiest to see right ??

Is it too late for redemption........probably not. This is the same guy that fought back from what seemed like terminal cancer.

Will MX come under greater scrutiny ?? You bet it will. USADA will spread it's new found influence every chance it gets.

How do you figure? It may not be possible to ride like LA without the PEDs, but isn't that the point of competition and the reason to not allow PEDs? Set the bar at a true peak and let folks try to attain that?

He has always been a jackhole. It has just taken longer for some of you to figure out. The worst thing about what he and his handler have done was to ruin the lives and reputations of anyone who spoke out against him.

As for the PED's, I say that since everyone has been found to be using them, he should keep his titles and much like baseball, they should just put an asterisk around the whole era.

There are people using ped's in MX, NASCAR, NHRA,NHL,MLB, NFL, NBA, etc. Where there is money to be made there is cheating, plain and simple. Human nature. Don't even try and tell me that your favorite mx'er would never take something that may improve his performance, grow up!

So, so far nobody has posted any data about any competitor that races clean. My guess is that there aren't any but maybe there is. If there are none that are clean then are they not all in the same spot? That is to say if a riders says nothing does he go on to be thought highly of and only thought un-highly of if he is asked then lies? Seems like a double standard.

That is not true. With SX being run under the FIM blanket, all riders (at least last year) had to sign a WADA waiver, dont you remember Chad and RV both complaining about the WADA drug test crew showing up AT THEIR HOUSE for a random test, and Chads was late (after 10pm) at night, and RV very early in the morning.

I posted a pic Chad posted a month or so ago from them saying that Chad doesnt have to give them his whereabouts 24/7 anymore, as he isnt on their list. (dont know what that really means, i can prob dig up the pic)

Found the pic:

An interesting note for those of you that don't follow pro cycling:

One of the biggest uproars in the TdF was when the organizers announced that wouldn't SUPPLY drugs any more.

"…The acceptance of drug-taking in the Tour de France was so complete by 1930, when the race changed to national teams that were to be paid for by the organisers, that the rule book distributed to riders by the organiser, Henri Desgrange, reminded them that drugs were not among items with which they would be provided.[16] In a 1949 interview with Fausto Coppi, the 1949 and 1952 Tour winner, he admitted to amphetamine use and said "those who claim [that cyclists do not take amphetamine], it's not worth talking to them about cycling".[17]…"

Might as well take EM and BH wins away, makes as much sense.

Did a quick search for "AMA Supercross WADA" and found everything pertaining to 2013

AMA SX 2013 Rules

All the WADA info is on that page and how it pertains to SX. It even shows the WADA form all riders have to sign. (pretty sure it is 450 class only)

Is it latest fashion to have jaws like snowplows or a neanderthaler? or foreheads like a o'l boxer? Just sayi'n.....Whistling

I just hope this case will influence the rest of the sporting world into cutting it out.

The excuse of "well everyone else is using them, why not me" doesn't wash.
The athletes who are clean, putting in time and money to never come first have been mugged of everything that come's with winning events.

I like how they just declared that there is no winner of those 7 years Dopestrong won the title. Good luck finding someone in the top 50 who wasn't doping like a motherfu**er.

Contador - dope
Ullrich - dope
Vinikourov - dope
Hamilton - dope (has anyone read his book? I think it would be a good read)
Landis - dope
Schlek - dope

And so on.....

Cadel Evans.....angry little man. Probably roid rage.
