Long monday, make me laugh. What's the biggest BS you've heard someone say about their bike?

Edited Date/Time 1/10/2013 12:12pm
Forget craigslist, way easier to BS online than in person with a straight face. What's the biggest lie anyone's every told you about their bike?

This weekend a guy I had just met was telling me about his bike. A 2002 Yamaha YZ125, the last year they made those. Yeah, it was a special "Supercross Edition" that had upgraded "longer" suspension and a special edition plated FMF pipe. He got it super cheap with only 1 season of use for $5K. It was too funny to call him out on it, I was hoping he would keep elaborating.

Talked to JS7 at a SX race last year. He said "That Yamaha's actually a good bike, they just need to stiffen those damn forks more. They keep foldin' in on me, at the worst possible moment."

A customer (buddie of mine) said he rides his 92 KX500 to its fullest and it needs more power. I have ridden with said customer/buddie at the track with him on his RMZ, total goon. Long story short I built the KX motor for him and told the port guy " to make it so he can't hold on to it" needless to say he doesn't like it anymore nor does he say he rings its neck.

Also being a Motorcycle shop owner you get the best of the best when it comes to BS. I had a guy inquire whether I sold used bikes or not. Said he has been into dirt bikes his whole life. Didn't know that one of my riders bikes was a 250f thought it was a 2 stroke 250.Blink also said he was going to the "AMC" super cross this weekend in Phoenix lol.

Every year I go snowmobiling in the Mountains in Colorado. I brought a good friend out and after we get done climbing some big hills, playing in some deep powder, and having a great time he says, " I bet my sled back home could do this." We always rent out there and usually get some 600-800cc 144" or 136" with a 2" paddle track. Back home he rides a 500cc Skidoo with a 3/4" lug 128" track. The sad part is, he is still serious about being able to do it.

Can we add best excuse for not winning a race to this? I've heard some beauties over the years!

"i forgot what gear i was in on the first lap, cant do much after that"

"i got arm pump in my shoulders"

"I wasnt trying" (kid tried to clean me out when i went by him)

"I forgot my pre race monster"

"I had to break in my new air filter"

And my personal fave:

I got a bad start so i just rode around

This new (fill in the blank) gets me the hole shot everytime.

All the same bike. Looking at an 06 450 Honda in 2008 that was very rough to say the least. He asked if I'd been around bikes before and I said "yea a little" so he had to flex his knowledge:

Looks like a new seat?

"yep, thats a brand new seat. Bought the complete seat because they are stronger. It cost $400 new but I won't put that charge on you, you seem like a good guy"

You ever changed the oil in it?

"Yep, changed it after the first ride. I ran Castrol Synthetic, and that lasts up to 20,000 miles., so I'm sure it's good still. It's probably only got 2 or 3 thousand miles on it anyway"

When was the last time the air filter was cleaned?

"last time I had the seat off I sprayed it pretty hard with the power washer, it even took the stains out. It looks great and it got all of the dirt out of the air box. You are good to go."

You didn't take the filter off the bike?

"No need to, the bike was leaning against the wall at the car wash so the water couldn't run into the carb. You will learn these tricks on your own with enough experience"

I just walked away... smiling.

I saw a neighborhood kid with one of those gas powered scooters wash it with the cleaning kit that comes on them (he was using the sponge airfilter)
