It's crazy that 3 out of the 5 area qualifiers for the Northwest region are in California. Seems like that should be the Southwest.

You either help with track crew, get all your "bikers for jesus" buddies and go work the parking and directing, give some street lights to another track owner who goes and helps at LL, be the president of a district that bends the rules when you what to have a race against district rules. Worry only about the money being brought in for mxsports, sign up as many riders as you can and "your childs safety is not the AMA officials concern"............etc, etc,

I could keep going for another couple pages but reading would get boring.

But I really don;t think you were looking for an answer to posed ?, were you.

Yup, North Central Region Area Qualifiers are mostly at really crappy tracks, but at least they work hard at other tracks so their crappy track can get a qualifier, lol.

Choosing a youth regional track is always going to be a compromise. You have to have a track that works for 4 year olds on PW50s as well as 17 year olds on 250Fs. Having helped run (refereed) youth regionals the last couple of years, it is not as easy as it looks to have a track that is good for that much of a difference in age and experience levels.

I am not sure what is being discussed. but a good many of the tracks in the north central are far from crappy. at least the ones we deal with are good hard working tracks in IL that support AMA and put on races all year long.

the selection of tracks was much more scrutinized and likely will continue to be.

but taking 65 riders a class for a regional and having 8 qualifiers per region is a bit much.

but then i am old and quit chasing a dream like that 25 years ago, and my kids don't get sitting around all day for 4 laps. So dad doesn't go mxing much anymore.

Wardy - you are right there are some good tracks in IL (Casey, Walnut (probably the best) and Mt Carroll). But these are not the ones being referred to.

In North Central, not sure how Bryon MX got the youth regional based on the fact there is no way it can accomodate that many riders in terms of the pits and parking unless they make some changes. The track is pretty good, but the parking and pits are sketchy due to the lay of the land. Someone should have tried to take a 40 foot toyhauler in there and found a place to park with about 500 other people trying to get in there. Walnut is the perfect place for a youth regional, best run track in the region, parking galore and a safe but challenging track. Scratching my head on this one.

(EDIT) Please understand that no one gets a pro national or any other race based on working at Loretta Lynn's all week. The AMA and MX Sports work together on choosing the tracks each year and moving them around. There's never a perfect list because someone will always be left out, but no one gets a race because they help at Loretta Lynn's.

It was over on the pro motocross schedule. If I was wrong, I apologize. But no one gets a qualifier or regional just because they help out at Loretta Lynn's -- and we're lucky to have lots of help there because we need it. Should we tell qualified motocross organizers not to come help?
