i got my 02 yz 125 from my buddy that had bought it brand new in 04..he rode it 3 or 4 times...looped it out on a rocky/muddy hillclimb and never rode it again...

parked it unwashed under a tarp in his parents backyard and left it there for 6 years...

i went by and grabbed it...lucky i did because if it stayed outside any longer it would have been not worth fixing..

the fork stantions were just starting to rust...

i cleaned it, put new tires, reeds and a silencer and resprung it...fun bike

my 03 kx 250 i got from a friend who was squirling it away in his garage ever since he got a 250f in 06...
set it up for offroad...

If I had money, I wouldn't buy any brand new motorbike. I would spent all my money in two strokes between 1992 and 2008.

I would restore most of them, I would ride the youngest models, and my main purpose would be learning and enjoying the reason why I loved motocross more than now. Steel bikes, two strokes, cheaper, premix, different technical solutions, painted frames...

Hopefully, the day I will have money and space, ebay and some used bikes websites, will be still alive.

PS: It happens the same to me with drums, cymbals, snares and hardware.

Cool story here. A friend of mine used to take photos for Gulf Coast Cycle News back in the 70's and would be on the floor of the Astrodome on amateur day. Being a Jeff Ward Mini Elsinore freak, he brought me a couple good photos a few years back of a JWRP mini getting put through the paces in the dome by a fast Texas kid. Always wondered where that ultra rare little machine ended up. Then just yesterday a fellow Vital member from the Dallas area emails me some pics of his latest Craigslist find . It is the same damn bike in original unmolested condition. It looks a little rough, but it is exactly as it was last raced even after being sold. A super rare find and to find it with the same race number and all was beyond cool. A true to life hand built works supermini.

Mike Lagaza Photo circa 1977

Fresh from the barn after 35 years.
Now that rocks. I love stories like that.

Another theory would be...

If you check most of the number 6 and 7 class sellers stated above, they sell the bikes as they would be newer models.

In the Spanish second hand marked, it is so common, as you can see in the examples:

Kawasaki KXF 250 2004, announced as a 2006 model:
http://motos.coches.net/ocasion/kawasaki/kx/250f-2006-en-granada-529448…

Suzuki RM 125 (maybe a 1995 model as youngest), announced as a 1998:
http://motos.coches.net/ocasion/suzuki/rm/125-1998-en-madrid-5252859.htm

Honda CR 125 (maybe a 1997 model as youngest) announced as a 1998:
http://motos.coches.net/ocasion/honda/cr/125_r-1998-en-madrid-5334462.h…

Honda CR 250 1998 announced as a 2003 model:
http://motos.coches.net/ocasion/honda/cr/250_r-2003-en-madrid-5275338.h…

In conclusion, as most of the bikes made in 1998 are 2003 models, I bet the 2009 models are still being made in the factories in Japan.

I have a 2003 CR 250R, a 2006 YZ 125, and 2007 CRF 450. All of them are damn near as clean as they were new. They don't really seem that old to me though...
I have a a 03 yz 250 and you know i see absolutely no reason to get a newer because there is not enough difference to persuade me and im not fast enough for it to make a difference

Me too, I have a 98 and a CR250. There are a bunch of those around here but I do live on a farm in Kentucky.Silly I also have a 93, 94, 96, and 97 CR250s that other people started to "rebuild" that I bought off craigslist.

im guilty of parting out a bike..an 01 cr250 Sad got into cars and the bike was apart so i said fuck it and parted it.

i see alot of 250f's being parted on ebay....which is good for me..I'll have a steady supply of OEM parts for my cr250 2-stroke..pretty sure the newer suspension/brakes will fit on my bike.

The 1980 RM80 in my avatar would still smoke today's 85's in the engine department.

The moto armoury bought it and has it in Moline Illinois. They bought the bulk of the Primm stuff. they had a display at the Midwest Vintage race at Walnut Illinios. From what I hear they may open to the public down the road

Old Old memories , Where is it now?

They are all here in Australia, there are containers coming in from the States every week. Nearly every old bike here is from America. My CR500, KX250 & KDX400 are all from the America.

Well I've got an 08 RM250 which I will never sell, dad has an 06 RM125 and 1989 RM250 (both mint) which he also wont sell. So there are a good percentage of bikes which just stay in peoples garages.

I have also broke and sold an 06 RM250 which I bought as a complete rolling chassis, took of the parts I wanted and sold the rest.

I'd guess and say 25% get scrapped, 25% of bikes are kept/stored away, the other 50% broken and sold for parts

The owner of the Mini Elsinore posts on here from time to time and lives in the Dallas area. I'll try to dig up some contact info for you as I'm sure he would love some history on the bike even if he isn't wanting to sell it. Heck, I'd love some history of your time aboard the little machine. Maybe you can share a story or two?? I have another good photo of you on the mini I'll try to dig up.
