"The great divide between the haves and the have nots and the sometimes short earning life of a participant in MX is no different from many other businesses, professions, and other sports. If you can deliver as a designer, ad acct mgr, salesman, ball player, etc."

Compare the top 20 ball players to the top 20 motocross guys, then you'll see the DIVIDE!! Part of the issue is in regard to the danger of the sport, OUR athletes do not get what they deserve in regard to compensation, unless you only count the "best".

Do you think the people making money off of supercross (whoever that may be) are going hungry. The "suits" aren't hurting, I assure you...

Neither is the Walmart family.... What's your point.

If you don't like making minimum wage then quit and get a new job or work harder, learn and position yourself to be in a better place if thats what you desire. Also maybe learn to be humble and appreciate what you have.
Agreed. It will always be this way as long as riders are willing to race for next to nothing in hopes they will become the next RD5, RV2, JS7, CR22, etc. The chances of making a good living in this sport are very slim, but really it's that way with any sport. 99.99% of people will never be professional. That's the risk you take, and nobody is making you take it. I knew this in my younger years, which is why I decided to graduate high school, and go to college instead. I'm very happy I did.

The opening shot of the episode was Pete and Jake Beaudoin... Leads me to believe they will be covering the riders that are tragically injured training to be one the select few that make a good living at this. Now THAT will be sad episode...

"It'll always be this way"

With that kind of mentality your absolutely right!!! It's no wonder the sport is in it's current state. It will never happen when you guys continue the philosophy of the greedy.

We can put people in space, we can transplant faces and hearts, yet we can't solve this problem. Keep up the good!

You can't expect individual riders to do anything, a system and collaboration must take place!! For everyone involved.

Maybe I interpreted it wrong but this is what I got from the whole Grant deal. Josh's mum didnt steal his money, she just spent it all on Joshs career and helping him pay for racing/trainers etc and just didnt tell him that the money was starting to run out until it had all gone. Some people seem to be making out as if she just ran off with all his money but I dont think that's the case is it?

I would like to know why everyone is so surprised at this? Does everyone have the memory of a goldfish?
Sad yes, there are always sad story's to Racing, that is the drama of racing. We can feel for them, and I do. But I don't understand how everyone is so surprised?

Tell me how many MX Stars you know from the 80's making a bank roll of money for their personality?
I agree with many of the points here and on the show. But at the end of the day you have to remember this is Racing - not 'Doctoring,' or 'Lawyering' or 'Accounting.' No one pays to watch those people work, they pay them so they work.

I am looking forward to more of this story.

According to JG33's wife, Josh's mother basically took the money as payback of sorts for all she and the family had invested in Josh's career since he was a kid, and apparently she kept him in the dark about their total lack of savings until they had to find out on their own when they tried to tap into their savings...which was nonexistant.

You are correct this is not doctoring or lawyering, and those professions are paid based on the work that they do. Supercross and motocross athletes should get paid based on what they do and that is sellout stadiums. Maybe not sell out all venues but I think we can agree there's enough revenue to do something about the problem. It's just like the Walmart comparison, Walmart employees do not pack stadiums. Riders do..

Let's ask this; let's say 5 dollars was added to the price of every Supercross tickets and that money went straight to the riders for some sort of fund ,who here would have a problem with that?

I'd have no problem with that, but, how are you going to divide the fund? Why not just start a charitable fund for the riders and let the public contribute. If it was an appropriate charitable fund, even Feld may contribute.

I agree with you, and yes I would. But think about this (and I'm not for the promoters by any means) When does it end? The people you see in the night show or on the line at a national, there are hundreds behind them that didn't get to that point. Do you pay them? And if so, how much? $5?

This is racing, the reward is in the risk. We all know this before a leg is thrown over the bike. You cant make the decision of your life without not thinking of this.

Maybe you can, but I hate to say it even if they aren't on a bike they may not go very far if they can not look a year, five years ahead in a career. Its a huge gamble; one we love but still a gamble.

Again - why is anyone surprised?

I'm looking for solutions to the riders that are in the top 20-30. Beyond that, a structured program would be required. My point is simple; $5.00 per person would fix the problem, at at least start to; FELD COULD EASILY give up $2.50 per person. So add $2.50 to the tickets and take $2.50 out of Feld's greedy mitts.

And that's an easy solution without knowing the real numbers. I assure you, there's more that can be done. BUT IT WILL NEVEVR happen by making excuses or looking the other way or saying it's dirt bike riding, they deserve no more than what the suits are willing to give. NONSENSE!

Pay ATTENTION.................

The Walmart family comparison was about, the Walton family could change the quality of their employee's life's, but they don't. Not because the money's not there, but they don't have too. It had nothing to do with Walmart employee's..... Savy.

IMO... Your attitude of entitlement is part of the problem. I have a tip for you. If the riders don't like the money they make, then they can get off their asses and go do something about it. Learn how to brand yourself, market yourself, stop acting like punks.

Oh and if that doesn't work for you, there's always...... " Stop being a pussy and hold it WFO and win some races ". Everyone has the same opportunity to go wide open. Just win baby.

You act like you know Feld's books inside and out. If so please let us know the breakdown of what it costs to put on an event by line item and how much the net profit is off of said event. I'll wait.

People are selfish retards.

Most of the rednecks would think "should we pay for the tickets and donate money for the riders? HELL NO"

people does not always understand the working-circle of things...

One example that comes to mind is when mx-life.tv airs the GP-races for a really low price and still a lot of people is searching for pirate streams or torrents of it. With the mindset "ah why should i pay when someone else is doing it" ... I wounder what those people think when the service isn't there no more because of everybody download the races instead of actually paying for them so the company that provides us with that excellent service can keep going for us.

One thing is for damn sure, it will not get worse for the riders if we actually do our part as fans and support the companys that actually supports our sports/is involved in our sport.

Without getting into the math and viability of your $5 suggestion, I have a real basic question for you. Why are you pissed at FELD? Frankly, No one is making the Riders race, No one is making FELD put on events. No one is making me buy tickets. Why don't we let market forces solve the problem? I am having difficulty with the logic that the Riders receive what the Suits are willing to give. Frankly, if the reward is inadequate, the Racers will stop racing and the reward will have to be increased. If ticket price is unaceptable I won't go to races. (I don't buy those #$@% $5 bag of peanuts because the cost is excessive, etc.) Perhaps, each Rider has made the decision that the reward is adequate as has everyone else in the food chain.

If you see the situation as being so screwed up, why don't you start your own series and run it anyway you want? No criticism of you, I just get frustrated with the idea that we are going to tell others what and how they have to do things.

I am not as pessimistic about people as are you. If the circle of things is broken, it will get fixed. I am just suggesting that market forces will bring about that fix. Perhaps this discussion is part of the process. I agree with you about supporting those involved in the sport. Once again though, this support is just an example of market forces at work. Those companies supporting the series do so as a form of marketing In exchange they receive increased revenue. If this wasn't the case, then the series would probably now be held in some cow pasture someplace with 2-strokes making a resurgence.

You are a suit because you make money off of the riders. I think you should give $5 for every piece of safety gear you sell back to the riders,VELOCITY GEAR can EASILY give up $5.00 per piece and take it out of velocity gears greedy mitts. Because you make safety gear you should sell it at your cost to protect the riders...........................................Wait that is not so much fun when someone gives away YOUR money now is it?

The unwillingness to solve the problem and desire to nitpick, is something I cannot understand. Are you guys really motorcycle riders? Your excuses just don't stop.

You'd be damn straight, if I made 14 million last year off of the riders!

Thinking that it will solve itself, will only make the solution take that mush longer, if ever!

Sheesh, with supporters like the detractors here, you're absoulutely right! It will never change!

Cowardly!

FELD's money? REALLY? Absolutely unbelievable! You fella's are a horrible example of SUPPORTERS!!

Not savvy for me, sorry.. WALMART is not packing stadiums because of their employees. As far as willingness to make their employees life better; well no kidding; that's why a union or SOMETHING needs to happen. The suits aren't going to do it on their own.

The inability to understand that, is amazing to me!

Someone said you make huge money so I think you need to GIVE it to the riders. You make your living off of the riders so you must be a suit so you need to do more. I think anyone that makes any type of gear should give $5 for every piece they sell to the riders. Come on man practice what to preach you can afford it.

I'd be willing to bet that there are more people in Wal-Mart stores at any given time than there are in every stadium in America at any one given time. They ARE packing those stores because of their employees willingness to work for low pay, in turn keeping the cost of goods low.

Here is why a Union will never happen. First and foremost, motocross/supercross is not a team sport its a individual sport its racing and each race has only one winner. also there is nothing to be gained and no reason at all for any of the top riders to join because a union can't and won't do anything for them. Unions are organised labor nothing more and racers are not laborers its a contest and they are not even employees of the factory teams.

It has also been tried and failed. Jim Eickel a mid pack rider tried and failed and was Squashed like a bug and it ended his career. Jeremy McGrath at the height of his career and the best and most popular racer on the planet could not get but a handfull of riders to boycott the Vegas SX over safety when the lights went out, there was more to it than that but the race went on without him. Just this last year riders tried at the Mexico GP and failed. No matter how many riders who say they wont ride there will be more than enough that will take their place on the starting line.

MX/SX riders are NOT like as you say the "Best Workers" they are talent and they want to shine above all the other riders and beat them into submission ,and they know as soon as they are older or slower or hurt that there are lots of other riders who will take their place and kick them to the curb in a heartbeat. If I was Dungey or Reed or Stewart I wouldnt want to have any part of a riders union or riders coalition because it does nothing for them and same goes for any other rider who is fast enough to make a good living racing. It cold cruel reality right now that things are tough in the motorcycle market and racing is the first place that they will cut spending when times are tough, so you are either good enough to get paid to race or you PAY to race and there is not much in between.

It also seems the only people crying for a riders union are not the riders but the people who feel sorry for them. I didnt see Grant or Hahn or Kyle Chisholm bring up a riders union and they are the ones who you all are feeling sorry for.
You make good arguments, I see the complexity, and I understand why it most likely wont happen. But despite one could easily go deep here and try to sort out the many issues that divides mx/sx to regular workers, I still think it's possible if you see the simplicity in the system. The power is not totally in favor of the organizers, and despite many riders are eager to fill the gap, the survival of the series is if the best line up, and people will pay for that rather than seeing whatever ride just because he can do it for free. Despite Emig won that race, I picture the loss the series had missing out on MC, if he would have contiuned, they would have been forced to listen (I assume that), because sans him that era would have lost income, attention.

I do blame the lame riders, not creating one, but if they had an option to sign up for a union, whatever lame verison we would get, maybe the culture would chance slowly, especially if one of the big dogs singed up, and in the end it would become a factor, a few years later, same union would be lame again maybe, but as long as it's there, there's always room for growth.

I picture there's a strong resistance towards this, the industry, organizers to my knowledge fight the idea, I have heard that "they" actually have literally threatened riders to create something like this. At least I heard Grant Langston got that vibe when he talked about it, was told he would be left out in the cold or something. Just that rumor suggest there's a void, reason to go further. What the organizers feel short term as a threat will in the long run favor them. A fight discussion will always benefit both parties, if there's an issue that is destroying the riders, the racing will suffer in the end with less riders, bad growth and right now, something really, really sick is going on since we already know a majority of the big players will be injured at the end of the season. I would prefer a safer series with the best, rather than something dangerous that kill the field. A union in discussion with the organizers is the only solution, the injured rider that got an voice, is more prone to support the common goal than the, take it or leave it guy.

But, I will not win this. Your argument seems to be winning on both sides.

This show was shocking and sad. I feel very sorry for Josh Grant and his wife. Only over the past few years have I learned how little many of the top pro racers actually make. Prior to that, I figured all of them were making great money. It is kind of hard to believe that my wife and are much better off financially than some of the 5th-10th place pros. I have a 2 yr old boy, and will never let him pursue a career in MX/SX racing. Being a smart business man like Carey Hart is what I hope for my son.

Your rebuttle, lacks substance! Look for another pot to stir, as your inability is clear! I've made my point; making excuses is what you're good at...

I've made my point; making excuses is what you're good at and clearly something you will continue to do.

The riders, THANK YOU for your undying support! GMAFB!
Your point is flawed and has been exposed several times your are just too stubborn or stupid to see it. I am still waiting for you...

How is my point flawed? Exposed? Sorry, the only thing that's exposed is your limited mindset. AGAIN, all you're doing IS MAKING EXCUSES!

I don't need FELD's financials, you're diluted if you think they don't have the money! I mean, really? What, you can't imagine taking $2.50 out of Felds pocket per person? Your desire to call me stupid, only shows your true mentality. Grow up!

The Wal-Mart arguement is completely irrelevant. What does a Wal-Mart employee do to earn a job at that store? Graduate high school at the most. Maybe not even that. They don't risk anything to do that job except that they may not afford the new iPhone. A rider puts his life on the line. Not only his body but his whole future. His parents probably sacrificed there financial future as well. Why can't Feld and even the AMA put up a few extra bucks for purse money. All those "hay bales" are lined in sponsors who payed a good deal of money. And the argument that the riders still line up to race is stupid. They aren't going to make any money if they "strike".

Before you start feeling too sorry for 5th-10th you may want them to define their version of broke. If being broke means that they can't afford to race and need to get a 9-5 job in order to support their family then I feel little sorrow. Judging from the houses they live in I'd say they're far from my version of broke.

The fact is you don't how much money they net but you want us to believe they are raking it in. Prove it or STFU. I'm not making excuses for them or anyone else. I can see taking $2.50/person out of their pockets...the question is why would they? Are the racers not going to show up? Of course they will and therein shows one of your many flaws in this debate. How much of every purchase do you give back to your customers?

My desire to call you stupid...hey STUPID I said you were either stubborn or stupid but I guess your answer proves you are STUPID. With that I am out. These arguments never turn out well.

You don't get it either. You get paid what you are worth to an employer. If a racer makes $1M then that person/company paying him thinks he is worth it. If a Wal-Mart employee makes $8/hr then that is what they are worth. It does not matter what his parents sacrificed and if they sacrificed it all so little Johnny could be the next GOAT and it didn't parlay for them then so be it.

The argument that they don't have to race is valid. They don't...go get a 9-5 job like the rest that aren't good enough to pull in the big dough as a racer.
