The N word?
Really?
You think Herlings cares it's controversial in the US?
As mentioned earlier, outside the US it's no big deal and I know here in Holland it's the same as saying BRO.

But sure, Herlings is a racist and a wigger for twatting that stuff.

I blame all that Rap music that spawned over there! That crap is available everywhere, kids grow up copying that kind of stuff

If you take a look through Twitter you'll find an incredible amount of foul language, porn, abuse and heavy shit slinging, its turning into a pretty vile cesspit and anyone can get on it,

People get used to this stuff and it becomes commonplace and accepted and only gets worse, hopefully they'll get a grip of it

Wow... what a great image for his sponsors. Outside of him saying Nigga, he also said "fuck," "bitch," and "pussy" in social media. That'd be enough to get me fired from my job and any athlete in America fired from their job. How does KTM justify not punishing that behavior? I get that everybody on here wants to say you're a "bitch" if you're offended, but honestly there's a reason that Canrad/Dungey are a sponsor's dream, and there's a reason that J-Law fizzled out of this sport. It's not necessarily offensive to everyone, but it sure as hell is one of the most unprofessional displays of behavior I've ever seen.

I hate to say it, but I love this kid. Remember people he is just a kid having fun and it's cool to see a kid in this sport not afraid to be a kid. I don't agree with what he is saying nor would I want my rider saying it, but he is not my rider and it doesn't offend me so fuck it. Can't believe how tightly wound up some of you are.

He is 18, a world champ, ultra quick, touted as the fastest sand rider every (by many who know, NOT retards on the web), full of youth and is no doubt helping to sell many many many many many many bikes.

That is why they are "putting up" in my opinion - they also know that he is a kid who will calm down a little as he matures, let's not forget that he has probably had a bit of guidance not to continue - just that his employers have told him 1 to 1 and not in the domain, rightly so.

Europeans did not even have bad words in thier vocab and it was always funny to them that the Americans can make a word so powerful and more so than a word that means the same thing ex: Shit and poop. Also the nudity that we blush at where their spas have men and women in same sauna naked and no one is being perverted.that does not fly here. lol Different cultures.I have not listened to rap in decades but I had the home speakers in my car at 16 and had 2 short and NWA on 24/7. LOL I actually still remember all the words, Doh!

Because KTM is a European company and they shouldn´t care if a random American is offended about a funny reply on Twitter which was made in Holland.
It´s quite common for Western Europeans to sometimes throw in a sentence like that when joking. In fact, comedians do it on TV too, just because it sounds so incredibly stupid. I.e. taking the piss out of rappers and the "gangster lifestyle".

1. Swearing in a different language doesn´t mean much, because you can´t relate to it
2. The racial slur the word brings to Americans has no part in European culture, hence it won´t be treated as a "no-no".

I´ve never been a fan of Herlings, but I laughed at his reply to go with his twitter-picture

Are "random Americans" a big part of their market share? Yes.
Is Herling's job 100% for the purpose of selling the products that he represents? Yes.
Could Herling's piss poor professional attitude/behavior put off many potential buyers of said products? Yes.

I'm not sure what you guys don't get about this. The only reason these riders make money is because they're endorsed by a company that wants them to represent their product to the public with the goal of moving more units. Hell, even if I was Alpinestars I'd be telling him to get his shit together.

Here's an example for the slower members of this board: If McDonalds hired an advertising agency to put up billboards around the city, and that agency decided to put up an ad that said "McDonalds fucking rocks. Go get some you pussies!" Don't you think McDonalds would be pretty pissed? They would be pissed because that's a poor representation of their brand.

Bottom line is if you think his behavior is fantastic - great. Good for you, however, you are not the majority of KTM's target market. Someone representing a multi-million dollar company shouldn't be behaving this way, and I'm shocked that he hasn't had his ass kicked into next week by KTM. His behavior certainly does more damage to the brand than it does good.

You're giving Herlings way too much credit mate.
He's got 5000 followers on Twitter, 90% of 'm are his fans.
How many customers do you actually think KTM lost by his tweets?
Do really think people will change their mind on buying a KTM and go for a japanese bike instead because they read some tweets by Herlings?

It was a joke. A throw-away comment which doesn't really mean anything in that context because the recipient was white for a start.

There probably aren't many guys in the Western world under the age of 35 who haven't mimicked a line or two from Boyz N the Hood once in a while. Does that make them/us rascist?

The answer is Zero Jefro. On the contrary, i think a few 15 year olds just sold their Jap bikes, talked a bunch of shit on twiiter and bought orange so they could pull some ass. =)
