I see where it would take some work to get 100% ready to host the race but don't all tracks need a little tweaking before the nationals come in? The confusing part is that a facility in Indiana is being considered without even having a track in place but the SE can't get one on the schedule because it would "take a lot of work."

Matt300, the southeast will get a race. It not only takes a lot of work, it takes a good partner -- someone who will invest in their facility and make it work for an event the size of a national. It also has to be in a place that will attract a crowd. Indiana is one of many possibilities, but nothing is set in stone for 2103. There are a lot of things going on around the country and there will be some changes.

It's the Atlanta Supercross that draws the huge turnout, so you want to stay closer to that end of it.

Missouri, Illinois and Wisconsin are also big motocross states that deserve a race some day. Diversity in the schedule each year would be great, but not easy to do... Personally, I would love to rotate back and forth between High Point and Steel City for the Pennsylvania round, but it's not always that easy.

Do those states not have a much easier drive to a national than the people from Florida do? If there is a national within an 8 hour drive then they're good.

Edit: the reason I mention Florida is that it seems like a lot of people we meet at Atlanta SX are Floridians.

Illinois? I have the perfect spot for you. Elkhart hill in Elkhart, about 20 min from Springfield just off the interstate. No track there yet, but I daydream of building a track on it all the time. 500 ft tall hill rising out of nowhere, plenty of flat ground for parking, giant rolling hills/valleys. Just have to buy the cow pasture, and the surrounding fields, and convince all the owners of neighboring mansions to move out or ok the track (shouldn't be a problem, no biggie Wink ) and once you purchase the property, I will gladly live in one of the vacated mansions and tend to the track, and of course, ride it daily for testing purposes. I only request a meager upper middle class salary Wink

I always liked Kahoka when I was racing in Mo. There were numerous other tracks in Mo and IL. that could fit inside it.

And what venue do you propose said supercross would go in? Last I checked the Bears play outside, as do the Cubs and Sox. Need an indoor venue in the Midwest for supercross.

Lucas Oil Stadium isn't very far, and Red Bud gives you quite the summer experience. Millville is a (long) days drive away.

I guess you could have a Chicago arenacross where Medieval Times is in Chicago: motorcycles and eating food with your hands. Could be pretty interesting.

As far as the Southeast (or any new national is concerned), while this sport may be a passion for DC, it is also his business. He needs to make sure he has support from the venue, support in terms of plenty of fans attending, and support from TV media. If you guys really want a national in the Southeast, find a track, find a willing promoter, and make a case to DC why you have a good plan.

I will make no assumptions what is done with respect to attendance models, but I have to imagine there is some sort of business savvy being used here that allows DC to predict how each national will do.

I have always wanted to ride there and it's not too far from where I live. The track looks alot lime Swan. I still don't get why Freestone got the National over Swan.

I was at the GNCC when Carrie made the announcement. I raced there this year and where the mx track is going to go everyone is in for a huge surprise when it's all done. Some big, steep hills that will have the rider's on their toes. Think about it though. Like Davey said, Indy SX gets 60,000+ each year, it's 45 min to an hour from Indianapolis as it is, it's not that difficult to get to, and they have the most parking out of any facility I've ever been to. There are a ton of TRACKS in the country that have the potential to be a national, but the FACILITY is what DC and everyone is looking for. Building the track is the easy part, having the parking is what dictates who gets one of the twelve most prestigious outdoor races in the world. Around 10-15 years ago there was a track in Southeastern Ohio that was the ultimate track, and still would be. The problem with that facility was that the closest major airport was Columbus and it was 2 hours away. Not to mention the fact that the parking lot sat in a flood plane that the damn beavers kept building up. If anyone in Ohio went to the old GP track in Albany 10-15 years ago you know what I'm talking about. Guys it about how much room they have and the roads and if they have the money to hold the race. Your looking at about a $250,000 investment for fee's and machines and people. It's not cheap. A track has to be willing to lose money the first year and build from there. But if its a 1 year deal or anything less than a 2 year deal plus a 3rd year option you can cover your cost versus the losses. And if weather is a player with rain or being really hot you lose the crowd and now with each race televised for same day coverage you lose those spectators as well. I think a $10.00 pay per view with 70% of the money made going to the track and 30% going to MX Sports to help a track make a little more money. Give the tracks a chance to make some cash back.

Oh and here is my guess for which tracks not coming back for 2013. My first pick is Elsinore, so no SOCAL National and my second is Freestone. I think those to me look like they are not coming back. Just a guess and I know of nothing so it's not a rumor just a gut feeling. Hope for the hard working people at both tracks its not so but we have to wait and see.

Long time lurker first time poster. And yea I race a quad in xc racing.

I was there too it was defiantly announced. I believe her exact words were " everyone here today is the first to know anything about it"

Parts of it were included in out track on sat and should be one hell of a track. The ironman has atleast 10,000 people there every year, the weather is always cold and rainy in oct and we still show up. and half of us make the 1 mile walk back to ironman hill to watch the fun. Google that shit.
What I'm saying is there are thousands of hardcore fans in this area and plenty of infrastructure to support it. Got my brand new 36' rv pulled out by a D9 last weekend!! The wife got to drive the rv for the first time while being pulled out. It's 45 min from my house so I'm pumped!!

While the Ironman gets incredible turnouts the Indiana MX scene is horrible and Crawfordsville IN ???? Ugh I would be shocked if this happens before the southeast gets a national. Most IN people go to Redbud since it's only 3 hours from Indianapolis.
