Let's see...

Anaheim-Room
Chase Staduim-Not much room
Dodger Stadium-Room
San Diego-Room
Oakland-Room (Yes, there's room. They don't use the whole floor, there...)
Dallas-Room
Atlanta-Difficult
St. Louis-Dunno
Daytona-Pullllease!
Indy-Room
Toronto-Forget it.
Houston-Room
Minn-Dunno
Seattle-Room
Salt Lake-Maybe
Vegas-Room

So...12-13 of 17 races...NO SWEAT!

Hey, it could happen...and riders would have something to say about it!

I am not sure if you are taking everything into consideration, but I may be wrong.

Take out all the media and sponsor signage and photographer sections (to keep existing lanes the same size) and I might agree with you.

I liked the joker lane. I liked playing strategy and also as a fan trying to figure it out. But if you think feld is going to give up signage and sponsorship product placed on the track for these sections I think we both know the answer to that.

I would hate to see the quality of a track suffer to try to cram in a entertainment section.

Dude, are you actually tryin' to say that Feld is in it just for the money.

Damn, that sux!

Damn Corporation wrecking everything and tryin' to make "profits"!

Pffft!

Screw this.

It's time we have a Protest!

I say we set up camp at Angel Stadium on New Years and make shit get real...Screw the 1%!

We want ours!Grinning

As to the use of "All of the Floor": For whatever reason, more than a few venues have a good portion of the floor 'not in Use'...especially Oakland
The lets get a joker lane!

I like it. An I change my original answer. I believe 60% of venues don't have sufficient room. Smile

Maybe a nasty joker lane is not the only answer. How about one that is just a normal section, but takes 5 seconds longer to complete.

Or how about the joker lane is actually faster but risky(go around it on normal stuff or go through it and possibly save time, sand, whoops, mud etc.) A nice mudhole would be great.

It makes the race dynamic. Lets face it, once one of the top guys check out, the race is boring as hell. Having this loom out there can make it interesting to the last lap. I don't feel making it knarly and dangerous is the answer, just longer to complete.

It was ok for that race but I wouldn't want to see it anymore - kinda like the stupid wall they build in the middle of the tracks.

I'm 50/50 on it for the regular season.

On one hand it forces strategy into this sport which is something that is kind of needed.

- forced passes
- dynamic strategy
- smaller teams could benifit from gaining position, by using strategy

On the otherhand

- Lack of concentration of the rider with a (oh shit joker lane moment)
- Too complicated for the dumbass fans this sport has
- locations of said joker lanes in stadiums

It doesn't have to be a sand trap and doesn't have to be a whole 6 seconds. There's no way they couldn't work it in to each event. The joker lane doesn't have to be a gimmick and involves a lot of strategy. I could see it working and breaking up the distant trains running spread out to the finish.

It was cool but it should stay at the one off MEC, period.

Joker lane was cool and added drama but what I really would like to see in SX would be two 10 lap mains. The current format is worn out imho and it would give both us hardcore fans and the casual fan more excitement.

That would be awesome. Most races are boring watching the leader check out. However, would racers agree?????

SX is a one main format because the "casual" beer swilling fan is too stupid to understand a two moto format. This has been discussed over and over. We already complain about channel surfing to catch four motos of outdoors, do you really want to subject yourselves to the same for the other half of the year? Anyone ever notice how the stands start clearing out before the main is even over? If it went to a two moto show there would be only a handfull of people left for the second motos. EL OH EL

i agree. it's an awesome little ripple for a one off event but i'm very much favor of keeping racing pure.

I thought it made the race interesting, and added another dimension. That being said, it meant that if you were smart, you could take it at the right time and avoid making a pass all together (see third moto Eli Tomac). I'd rather see someone have to force the issue.

It also cracked me up that RC said that Eli made a mistake by taking the Joker Lane when he did and suggested that he should have kept pressure on Barcia. In my opinion, RC sounded like a bit of an idiot when he said that. Just before Eli took the Joker Lane, and RC made that comment, I was explaining the strategy to my wife - In SX, one rider has to be SIGNIFICANTLY faster than another rider to make a pass because it tends to be pretty one lined, or they have to really force the issue. With ET following Barcia and looking just a tick faster, it would be smart for Eli to go ahead and knock out the Joker Lane and then focus on eating that 5 second gap back up without Barcia slowing him down. That way, when Barcia took the Joker Lane, Tomac would just inherit the lead. And that's exactly what happened.

This is ok for an exhibition race but during the championship?! This is SX not an amusement park. Let's hang a piñata over a triple and the one who breaks it gains some points, huh... Huh

I liked it ass well, and i also liked the three moto format. I agree that the SX series needs a big time format change. One 20 minute main on these tracks that are getting shorter and shorter ain't cuttin it anymore.

Just got done watching the race and I have to say I thought it was quite good. Before the event I thought it was going to be a disaster and that everyone would take it early on so they'd know where they really stood. But in actual reality there was definitely an added dynamic that rewarded good choice depending on the situation and when they took it.

Also as a section "technically" it looked damn tricky in its own right and possibly over looked by some of the other riders?
Barcia and Villopoto especially seemed to really have it nailed.

All in all I think it's good for this one race, a fun race. But not for the real SX championship.

i really liked it for this race. added a whole new dynamic to the racing, especially in the 3rd moto when Tomac took it way early and started catching up to Barcia and Dungey. you just knew he was going to get two easy passes as soon as they hit the lane.

all about time control. RV had the right idea in the first race, ditch everyone and take it with time to spare, but not everyone has the sprint speed of RV

as for the joker lane at other venues, as long as it doesn't make the tracks shorter than they already are, then i'm all for it

Just heard Reed's comments on the track and joker lane and he really liked it. He said that he thinks the typical tracks are maybe to busy and don't flow.

Even if they just start adding lanes that are brutally technical. The tracks are already short and (usually) boring as shit anyway, so add sections like this that are extremely difficult. Gotta do something to mix it up and make the races last a little longer.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but watching these guys destroy these tracks in around 50 seconds isn't that outrageously entertaining for all that long.

I do like the Timed moto idea some mentioned in these posts to stave off the 15 minute mains at some of the shorter
tracks..

seems a shame to use that much track only once. What about swapping things around and taking the shortcut once?

With you on the big A Dave and a first gear trials climb up through the rocks that some crazy fugger could sky over.

I liked it. Not sure if it would get old over a full series, but I liked it. Added entertainment to the race.

While I agree it is a bit gimmicky and show biz like, I think SX is too far gone to worry about that stuff. SX is a show. It's not like its a tactful, classy, traditional motorsport event. Its a cheesy, in your face, buy this speed boat, pumped up SHOW.

Heck, I've been to two SX races and was at A1 this year and the racing was almost a side show to the smattering of advertising. I could hardly bare it at times. Was so over the top. I'm prob over exaggerating, but felt like 65% down time/advertising, 35% racing. The announcer was trying to sell me a fucking speed boat WHILST the last chance qualifiers had all ready started. So I don't think we need to worry about losing the 'integrity' of SX or anything. That's long gone.

Also, if they were to implement it, could possibly make more of a meal out of it. Like have fire machines blazing each time a rider goes through it, or some special lighting just for that section. Or a row of topless Monster chicks doing a Mexican wave. Now that would be cool. haha.
