actually technique is not that important, mentally you have to treat that corner like a leper, like a good girlfriend gone bad, like a bad dream. you have to want to get through that corner and away from that corner as fast as fuckingly possible, all the other shit comes with practice

The historic champs have amazing corner speed. It's the easiest place to make up time without putting yourself at major risk of a crash. It also elevates your heartrate like no other movement other than whoops. Corners are tough if you do them correctly.

I respect the corner too much for that.......I choose to take more time in the corners so they feel loved.

It's too bad that there aren't a couple corners in MX that haven't changed at all over the years. Comparing the styles of everyone from Howerton to Stewart, Hannah to Carmichael, or Decoster to Windham would be really interesting.

When I took a school with David Bailey he said that if you are really going fast, there should be some doubt in your mind as to whether you will make the corner or not.
The other great tip he gave me was leaving your clutch out coming into corners. Pulling it in will speed you up when you are trying to slow down.
Races are won in the corners. Anybody can go fast down a straightaway.

The first time I ever saw the Europeans in '72 or whatever, I was absolutely amazed how fast they were in corners. It had never occurred to me that a person could go around a corner that fast. At the end of the day, there were knobby marks going upside down in berms all over the place.
