Funny thing is, I have TONS of aches and pains from riding, racing and especially working hard all my life, but I just deal with them and live my life as best I can. It's all in your head really. If you start thinking you are old, you will feel and act old. I do fun stuff that keeps me young. I'm not stuck in the past like most of my friends and family. I live and let live and don't judge younger people on how they look or how they dress. I listen to old music sometimes, but I LOVE a ton of new music as well. You just have to give it a chance and not be an old fart. Like I said, it's all a mind set.

Good call, Terry.

People regularly guess that I'm in early-to-mid-40s, and I just turned 52. (Yeah, it feels weird to say.)

I look forward to what's next, and am smart enough to not make some of the same painful mistakes that I've made in the past.

The biggest thing that slows me down from hopping on board an MX bike is some arthritis in my fingers (particularly on the outer three fingers of my camera hand), but I do spend a lot more time cycling now...both road and MTB.

Went and saw The Black Keys on Monday. Have an awesome new girlfriend who's ten years younger than I am. Life is good.
I completely enjoy bucking the odds. Someone said earlier that you don't get too old to race....you get old when you stop racing....AMEN.

Earlier this summer I took my 14yr old to see Linkin Park (he met the band backstage also) and my wife laughs and says it is my fault he likes that music. Since that went pretty well we took in the Mayhem Festival also. Might as well give the kids a broad range of experiences right ??

The funny thing is the same people that think I am crazy to ride, race, train etc are the same people who think it is crazy to expose the kids to rock and roll. The kids are going to experience things at some point in their lives.....hopefully I can add some perspective to it early on.

Another funny point.....my kids have been very fortunate to meet many of the top MX racers over the years from our involvement in racing......they are some great people and have welcomed the kids in. My kids are happy to chat up anyone at the races.........my 14yr old went speechless in front of Linkin Park.....go figure !!! He meets some rock stars and can't muster a single question. LOL

I turn 50 next June & "Shit's gonna get real" at Mammoth & the SCORE series!

500X y'all!

Hell, think I'll even try some Vet-X & REM races.

Over the past yr I've had a shoulder, knee & finger fixed. I'm feeling good and riding a helluva lot better than I thought I would be.

It's not how old you are.

It's how you go about "getting older".

50 is gonna be a "Good Year"!

Just getting of the plane from another Rip: gonna be plenty of film showing how "Old Guys" can still shred. 8 days of motoing down to Cabo gets you pretty stoked about riding.

I'm jus' sayin'...

Oh yeah?!? LOL If I don't get injured before then I might have something to say about your Mammoth plans. Damn, another cocky freshman coming up. Thanks for the warning!! 2012 was technically my best chance at Mammoth in a long time since I had just turned 50. I blew it around the JM tree turn while cruising in second in one of my 4 motos and there went the overall. We can get real in 2013 at Mammoth and of course a few REM's to get ready and maybe even early November for the Vet Worlds at Glen Helen. Ya might want to re-think that KX, at Mammoth at least......or not. I'm jus' sayin....

Oh yeah. Welcome to the club in June.
Yo!

Ask Jimmy Moe, I'll help ya get around that tree!

In the 40 class...I will race anyone as hard as I can...then Hi-5'em at the end of the Moto...no matter who won. I'll bet the "spirit of good racing" is even better with the 50 crowd.

I'm going to work on LaPorte...even if he does kick all of our asses; and, let's not forget that Dubach is turnin' 50!

As to the 500X plate? I'm building a Team that's unbelievable.

In '13 I'm probably goin' Red. Solid Red.

Anyone notice the 19 y/o in here with the Pure-Moto attitude?

52....not in great shape, but still haul the mail on the trails. Put the bike away for the winter today, haven't riden it much since I bought a speed boat this summer, but it is NOT for sale. KTM525.

I find the bike is even more important now, gets me away from my desk, wife, house and teenager kids. Better than therapy, and unlike the boat, has an excellent physical element and adrenaline rush.

Ride on, wear your protective gear, the good stuff. Healing is slow now.

I had a Kawasaki F-11 250 when I was 15, but when I was 16 a friend left his TM400 at my place for the summer, he had no place to ride it in the city. It was FUN!
Congrat's on the weight loss....cutting sugar would take ALL my discipline and then some.

I thought my racing buddies 250 Can-Am, and a few spins on a Kawasaki 500 triple were just as wild. The good old days, when motors were wild, and suspension....well, it really hadn't been invented yet.

Me 53. Practice routinely, race rarely anymore. Still suck, have always sucked at riding and motocross, ever since I began

in early 70's. Biggest claim to fame ? Getting passed on the last lap in a rough section of the track in 40 + at Kenworthys' -

by the guy with one-arm (all praise to him). And we were mid-pack !

Anyhow, like most of you, it is my life's work, not sure what else i'd do. I suck at most other things, too.

Like to think I'm a pretty decent ping-pong player.

Also, super bad-ass at pointing out hot chicks and terrorists at airports.

Around the Portland area there are quite a few guys in their 50s who still haul and smoke most of the kids and a lot of guys who still ride and race more casually. The vet practices and races are often the largest classes.
thats so true. its funny how good the turnout is at pir or washougal for a typical race weekend for the vet classes. its always better than the turnout for the bigger series races with the exception of top gun maybe. thats so cool. racing sucks when thee only 3or 4 guys in your class. at least 15-20 makes it fun

About to turn 45, I hardly ever race Modern MX anymore, almost all of my racing is Vintage of some sort, but I practice at local tracks all the time. When I do race a Modern event, I ride one of my old bikes just to prove, yeah, the bike is important, but you still have to twist the throttle. I love riding an '82 Husqvarna or a '79 Maico or even my '92 CR500 and smoking kids half my age on 4 strokes. I have not lost a lot speed wise yet, though I know its coming, and I am actually in much better physical condition than I was 25 years ago. Because of that, over the length of a 30 min moto, I'm probably faster than I was at 20, but I dont have as much speed and I dont take as many chances. I still fit my old gear too, here are a couple pics of me on my CR500 wearing my '96 Fox Team Honda Red Rider (aka 1800COLLECT) gear.

51 and still love to race modern and vintage. But I have no interest to go practice. If I'm going to prep to go and deal with the clean up afterword, I'm racing.
Try to say go out, take it easy and have fun but once you get out there and get going. ITS ON.

so my old Moto brothers ... I have a question for you.

How old is your bike? And do you think a NEW bike would make you go any quicker?

My bike is 5 year old YZ450F and its my right wrist that limits my speed so..... I do not think a 2013 would make my any quicker

But I must say that 2013 CRF sure does look sweet!

You need to have a '13 450 for 'business reasons'.Smile

Since mx is 80% mental, yes, your riding would improve...at least until the first BIG crash.

I will be 66 very soon. My first race was 1969 and raced 43 straight years since. I have 8 bikes, 5 with number plates and 3 with street plates and ride all of them except my old 77 250 husky. I want to ride as much as I can while I am still young.

Saw Bad Brad wheely his CZ around that place way when he was a young kid. John Banks and Jeff Smith were riding BSA's that day. WOW does time fly when your having fun.
