Yep, sounded like he'd had enough well before halfway through the interview.

From what I heard at the weekend from guys that work with him is that he is a bit of an asshole off of the track, and hates doing media. Make of that what you will!

I remember him giving the cold shoulder to Georgia last year when she was trying to do her pre race gate chat thing. He cut her flat on the spot and refused to do the interview. Whether that's right or wrong depends on the person I guess.

Didn't Desalle try to fight Cairoli at a pre- season internaional race in Italy back in 2010?

i really hate the interviews before the race , i feel really bad for the riders, race just about to start and you have girl (hot) she may be but asking really stupid questions , really think they should get rid of that, or stuffing a mic in a riders face when there just after crashing , then all the fans being in outrage , if they dont want to do an interview , there s a time and place for an interview imo

Atleast they don't have that lady with the teeth going round asking everyone if they think they can win any more.

Shame he isn't as good as last year. Hopefully he'll be back 100% next year ...

Haha I noticed something during the interview:
Interviewer asks another question

Sounds a bit like Kimi Raikkonen on the media side. Of course I don't expect to see Clement, drunk on a boat, wearing a gorilla costume just for the hell of it. Laughing

Geoffs pretty direct in his questioning wich I think can make for some interesting interviews, but you could tell Desalle was over that interview before it even started Laughing

I don't think the interviewer said anything that was out of line. Desalle came of as a dick IMO.

He asked Desalle, why is Cairoli riding so well. How would he know, stupid question IMO. He should have just stuck with asking questions about the person he is talking to not someone else.
I don't blame Desalle for being a bit short with that guy.
The MX Panda should have chewed on him like a piece of bamboo

I agree.

Ive never understood how the guys put up with it.

I got no problem with any racer that comes off poorly to the media on race day. Their attitude on race day usually is not indicative of how they really are away from the track.

That said, it doesnt help that this sport in general has a very contentious relationshi with its media.

I agree with you.

I couldn't help but think fractionally less of Clement after that. Not that I hate the guy or anything, I just think it was a bit unnecessary. I could understand it more if he'd just crashed out or suffered a mechanical etc. And then someone immediately sticks a microphone in his face - I think just about anyone would be grinding their teeth in that situation. But pre race? Nope.

The thing is, I can appreciate that those guys are preoccupied and would rather not be interviewed just before the race. But that's part of the sport, particularly with the position they're in. And it's part of life. We all have to do things we would rather not and most of us would happily switch places with those riders in a second. Chatting to some pretty girl just before a race is NOT a big deal in the grand scheme of things... so just do it.

From the link in the first post:

Clement Desalle is always a man of few words. Struggling at the moment with the loss of two family members, and with his form not at it's best the Belgian is looking for answers. Despite a great start in Saturdays qualification race a crash left him with an injured hand. Here is an interview with the Belgian tough guy.

I really hate the question riders are asked about another rider riding well or dominating. To me it's like saying "so your wife is sleeping with someone else, does this upset you?"

Well, sometimes maybe we expect too much under some circumstances. The guy had the red plate briefly and then Cairolli went back to kicking his ass even more routinely than before Sweden, and then he hurts himself and is off the pace again. So, yeah, his media skills may be poor, but at least he was transparent in a situation that anyone would be frustrated in.

Or maybe he's just a dick all the time. Beats me.

He's often very blunt and pretty grumpy,he doesn't care much for media, reputations and getting pushed around on track,it must be frustrating for him,he was on form in previous championships and gave Cairoli all he could handle and more but crashed out,he missed the MXdN too last year, and looked on for a great shot at the title this year which has deminished,I hope he gets back to speed soon,

i really think for some guys who are getting ready for a race it is a big deal to talk to someone before the race , some dont mind it , some need to be in there own little world , i could nt see someone sticking a mic in front of the 100m sprinters just before they do the race , and ask questions like do u think a good start is important , of couse its bloody important , , the fan s gain nothing from these interviews , the questions are so stupid, i just think some guy s want to concintrate on the start ,and thats why some time s they come off grumpy , think it should be scraped ,
