The tracks do make a difference, we know this because some riders excel on certain circuits. Sure these guys are talented and given an appropriate adjustment period, they can overcome any condition in a relatively short amount of time. But human nature being what it is, we're stronger at what we encounter the most. I take the point about 81 but that was a different era and the American riders were technically above and beyond their GP counterparts.
But still, as everyone has said, so much can vary on the day..... Lady luck will be playing a big part for everyone.

I'm with whoever said they wanted Cairoli to have a good race! Except I want him to have a good weekend and to see, and show exactly where he stands
I dig that dude
No need to explain how comfortable Herlings is on a track like Lommel.
Stop bringing Amsterdam down by letting people believe it is downtown Lommel.
It's not gonna be like Southwick last year since the bottomless sand at Lommel will absorb way more water.
The dude knows every bump of that track and lives in Lommel.
Saturday morning Toni and his lovely GF Jill will walk out of their front door to and drive 5 minutes to the track to do some media stuff, get in gear, race the qualifiers, go back home in the afternoon, make a nice pasta and chill on their own couch.
Sunday morning Jill will make Toni some breakfast and 10 minutes before free practice starts they get in their car and drive to the track.
That's how comfortable this MXdN will be for TC222.
Don't forget Roczen and Nagl those guys are really fast in the sand.
I wish I knew.
That's probably gonna be Glenn Coldenhoff.
Agree on Roczen and Nagl.
Roczen won the 2010 GP at Lommel beating Herlings, Nagl's been on the podium there too.
Can CP ride sand?
Pit Row
The AMA vs MXGP discussion will never end.
CP can ride sand.
He won a GP at Lierop in the MX2 class beating AC.
P
That would make the party even bigger. It's not about winning or losing.
Most expect the Americans to win the MXdN, they always do and they should.
All european MX fans would love to see more Americans race at the MXdN.
Especially Stewart. He's got many fans here.
(Not worried about Dungey. Nobody will outwork that dude for an entire moto.)
Not too sure about Dungey thougt. The 4-5 studs in 250 class has been doing his avg. laptimes the whole series. Tyla matched him at the end of southwick. But KTM knows how to set up a bike for that track so thats a good thing for RD
CP can ride sand if he wants, but I don't think he is on Herlings, Cairoli level in 2012.
