However,we would be having this discussion about Blake getting the shaft.

This is the incredibly "bad" problem the US has; depth and having to leave good riders off the team.

I wish this country could get back the common sense place where reasonable people can come to different conclusions withou someone being corrupt, or screwing someone, or a fucking idiot for deciding differently. And now we're in a conversation where people are arguing that Barcia's a shitty pick or Alessi's shitty pick when both of them are exceptional options and great riders worthy of a lot better.

I agree FTE. I would not have a problem with Alessi being on the team, I like him. The fact remains, he is not as fast any one of the three top 250 guys.

Two bad motos, in which he put on awesome charges in both?

Yes, he is totally back sliding.
Alessi hasn't had a bad moto in a while. To be honest it's a win win for Mike, he knows he deserves it, but since he isn't going he can stay home and stay focused, he also don't need to risk getting hurt over there. He'll be faster next year and he gets faster every week. Tony has him on a good program, stay healthy, be patient it will come to you. No need to force nothing, if he did go and messed up, the mean fans would talk about it for the rest of his career. You know he cares what the fans think, imagine putting you heart and soul into something you love then having a bunch of mototards constantly dog you and your family. HeLL he caught heck for winning and being excited about it. I think the mototards have made him tougher, dudes a bad mofo.

I would pick Barcia over Alessi because of the bike. Put Alessi on a factory Suzuki, Honda, KTM or Kawi and he should be the second pick.

I'm starting to think his bike is pretty damn good, he has some jam up folks wrenching and looking out for him to put this program together.

sorry, but next year his results will only get worse with (hopefully) reed, js7, rv2, and canard back. plus barcia and wilson joining the mix, top 10 will be a great goal.

If Alessi is as fast as some are saying on here. Should he be able to beat Dungey after an accident and pit stop?

Right. This is good trouble to have. The too many riders problem, not the lack of civil conversation problem.

Average lap times mike has everyone covered but Tomac....I think. Barcia will be on a different bike, just because it hasmore hp don't mean he will be faster, just more crash prone.

mike avg lap moto 1 2:05.452
Tomac. 2:05.075
Barcia 2:08.651
Baggett. 2:06.192
Dungey. 2:04.312

moto 2

mike. 2:07.676
Tomac. 2:08.594
Barcia. 2:09.150
Baggett. 2:07.058
Dungey. 2:06.550

Average laps are a fair comparison, I know a 450 is faster but just showing the people that keep saying he is behind them that he is a bit faster in some cases. What's cool to me is we are having this discussion today, some folks wrote him off, now look where he is, right on. Thats cool you can save the stats in iBooks thanks racerx. Sorry for my grammar and Stuff, that was a lot of typing and I dont get along with this iPad keyboard.

I know his bike is pretty damn good but it's not factory with unlimited parts and suspension components. Considering he's consistently beating factory bikes is a great accomplishment
I still think without a factory bike he should not be on the team.

How many headaches have the Alessi's given Roger D over the years and you think that he would pick him? IF it wasn't for injuries he wouldn't be close to 2nd place overall in the nationals. Last year in a few 450 rides Barcia was quite a bit more competitive than Alessi, and if Alessi was that good of a selection why didn't he get the factory Honda ride for next season that Barcia did????? I'm sure the other riders have pride to, and so far I haven't seen anything that backs up 2nd guessing the possible smartest man in MX. Maybe Roger D shouldn't have used his experience, knowledge and gut feeling on whether hire Dungy a few years ago either, and should ave asked you what to do.

i can't believe this is even a debate. alessi is 20-30 seconds off the pace in 90% of the motos this year. dungey has burried him.

mike was less than impressive in the sand this weekend and will be magnified at lommel. dream on, he can go with PR, more power to him.

Put Alessi and the top 3 250 guys on the same size bikes and they will all three beat him, not crush him, but I have no doubt they are faster. Having said that, Alessi would not be a bad pick, non-works bike or not, he is riding well right now. He always (well, now that he's not on a 350) gets good starts and I have been VERY impressed with his performances this year in spite of the gaps to Dungey because it would be easy for him to give up, and he has not. The fact remains, as I already said, three other guys who happen to be in the 250 class now are faster than him.

Yup you guessed it, everyone was already told Alessi would not be picked.
Just because you haven't read or heard anything, doesn't mean it didn't happen. Many people have written it, spoke about it and asked Mike/Tony about the situation.

I think Mike should go but when I asked people in the pits about it, it seems that I'm in the very small minority. Mike and Tony have made their bed with various actions over the years and now I suppose they have to lie in it. I think 800 should go, he's podiumed at Wick before on a 350, he's in shape, Genova would spend the money it takes to send 2 bikes & support crew over and as far as infrastructure needed over in Europe, there is none needed. When I went with Ferry, we pitted out of our crate- everything we needed was right there. Anyone who says that's the big issue doesn't get it.

Team USA are the favorites whether Barcia, Tomac or Alessi are on the team and I suppose that's the bottom line. Alessi isn't needed to win.

It's not going to happen with PR- that team is set with Osborne, Albertson and one real live PR dude.

Put all 4 guys on non factory prepared 450fs and I doubt it that any of the three would beat him.

We are debating a comparison between Barcia, Tomac, Baggett and Mike. some people keep saying how much faster those guys are than mike. I'm saying that If someone jumps off a 250 and on a 450 they may be slower, I put their average lap times up for both Motos this weekend and Mike was consistently faster than all. Check it out, I posted to show how folks dog him for nothing like you just did. Dang Man he is the only one to step up in the 450 class and challenge Dungey, Mike was in front of Dungey almost half a moto and he beat him once this year, cut him some slack, it's all good.

Ferry tore ligaments in his thumb in a practice crash and Hughes derailed a chain in a moto. That has nothing to do with working out of a crate.

We didn't win but RC was out of a crate inside a box truck (and won) and Ryno was pitted with factory KTM. It doesn't matter what kind of European support you have in regards to whether someone should or shouldn't be picked. That's just a flimsy excuse.

You can believe someone who has been on the team and been behind the scenes at the last 7-8 events or you can hold firm to your opinion.

How far did Dungey pull Alessi after Alessi had the holeshot? At the MXDN, there would be 20 guys in between Dungey and Alessi with the performance Alessi had. Do you guys think all the other teams would put up with Alessi's antics like Dungey does, or do you think they would punt him off the track on the first lap?

Hard to argue any point you've made.

So then you don't think we should have a results based system for picking the team that's the same every year. I'm a huge Decoster fan, but it's not like it's that hard to pick 3 guys out of the american pool every year that would win.

To be fair...

Roger is using a results based system. Go take a look at Justin's lap-times during this season and compare them to all the other avail riders...he finishes his motos stronger than all the alternatives.

True, Justin didn't have a Great Day, yesterday; but, Mike STILL didn't "Close the Deal" even with RD Falling, Pulling into the Pits for Gas...etc.

I -AM- a Mike Alessi fan.

But, I'll take Roger at his word. He explained this a while back and he's stuck to his "system".

Roger isn't much of a Gambler.

I would never think that Roger is just throwing darts when picking the teams...... But I'm more then confident you could pick the winning team every year.

And thats not to slight Roger or you in any way, It's just a pretty good pool to draw from every single year despite injuries.

Like this year for instance. even with 3 top riders out, Tomac, Barcia and Bagget would be tough to beat or any combination of Dungey, Short, Alessi, Tomac, Barcia,Bagget. All those guys can run top ten. To bad Rv's not healthy cause then it could be RD, RV and either Dowd or Brown just to keep it fair.....Lol
What would the team have been like if RV was not injured and JS7 didn't get hurt? I know, alot of what if's but you just know Dungey would have made the team through some odd combo of lap times/"consistent rider" talk. No way DeCoster would have allowed a team without his "boy"

Hi, welcome to last year. Barcia rode a 450 and rode it very well.

It would have been ridiculous.

Dungey would probably be one of the guys because of his steadiness and commitment to the team and connections with Rd, and RV probably the other, but who knows without having the both Stewart and RV out their making a record of performance right now. The problem with imaginary hypotheticals is that they aren't aligned with reality and one almost always couches them rhetorically to make some point. Really, who they hell knows what would have happened? No one.
