If his effort, hard work and results continue, you bet.

He's riding as almost a true privateer and getting it done against the factory machines.

Nah

Dungey 450s
Barcia open class
Baggett 250s

Alessi has not proven his consistency yet.

Nope, no insider info here...just discussion.

What are the other options? Stewart's fast, but injured. He didn't look like he was anywhere near his early-season speed at Red Bud. Weimer's fast, but has had some bad luck at putting two motos together. Do you bump up Barcia or Tomac to the 450?

Who has the sand skills?

He deserves to be considered, being very consistent and up front, has made some great charges when he got bad starts or crashed early. However I think he is not an industry favorite, and with his past dealing with Decoster..., wonder if Decoster will hold a grudge?

Could Barcia or Tomac be faster on a 450?

I think MA is an underdog, and I always root for underdogsSmile Plus he is really the only pro we see locally around JAXSmile and he has always been approchable and willing to bs with the kids...

Last time he raced something similar to sand in Europe ended up in complete disaster, so yes, send him over.Whistling

Between Stewie, Alessi and Barcia for the MX3 spot. That is a good place to be in to have those riders as your third pick.

USA as a team has a good future.

MX1 RD/RV/JS
MX3 MA/TC/JB (Both Barcia & Trey will step it up and could be the premier riders to)
MX2 ET/BB/JB/AC/CW

Apart from this year where the deep sand will help bridge the gap between the GP sand specialists and the top US riders, the next 5 years looks as though the US is in great hands with a lot of current and new talent constantly emerging.

well, if your gonna through the sand skill thing out there...then Matt Goreke is probably up there too, doing well up north and did he not win at southwick a few years ago? seems healthy and riding well...yeah I know it's a long shot...

Rd, Barcia,Baggett, #800 as an alternate. These picks unless there is a injury to prevent this team. Still alot of racing to do.

If the pick is made today then yes he deserves the spot and will be a good addition to the team. He's currently 2nd in points, fairly consistent this year, hard worker, great starts, eye of the tiger...
I don't see The Man making a decision for team USA based on an old grudge.

If Alessi can beat both Dungey & Stewart for at least the OA at Southwick only...
Then I say add him to the team as the MX3 rider. Smile
If not,put Stewart on the team....and see how things go(Keep Alessi as the ALT.) .
The event,it is still 2 months away and I would assume JS7 would be good to go by then.
If not for some reason, then Mike can replace him.

What type of infrastructure/bike would he get? The other teams have euro teams I'd guess share information about setup etc. Would Suzuki want to help him when they won't run yellow on his bike?

Many questions to ask and have answered. Glad I don't need to pick.

Mike & Decoster worked together at Suzuki...
I'm sure The Man would/could be an asset and would probably talk with Suzuki,as his job as the Team USA Manager. Wink
Might be able to get some thing straightened out for the event.

As for bike color...
Maybe run a Red,White & Blue MC/Team USA/Suzuki (do something patriotic/different for the event).

Goreke absolutely smoked everyone in the sand at Gopher Dunes yesterday for the Canadian National. Like SMOKED!

It would be nice to see him cut the euros off. Also as mentioned, riding a non factory bike at such a prestigious event would be interesting.

I'm not just kissing up to the former pro, but I totally agree. Especially because it's a sand race. He showed some impressive speed on the 450 last year. Also, he's doing a lot of hard core racing this year which I'm sure is great training both mentally and otherwise. Alessi and Weimer are not having to deal with that sort of intensity and pressure every weekend. If RV and JS are not able to go, I vote for Barcia, Bagget and Dungey!

Barcia has the sand skills but Alessi has paid his dues. I say he's earned it. And since Mike is such a horsepower junkie, throw a big bore kit on their since he'll be the guy for the MX3 class.

I think the real battle should be between Barcia and Bagget for the 250. If only because Bagget didnt exactly show up last time out.

But then again, what if Bubba can get healthy by then. Should we go with who "deserves it" or should we go with the sure win. We start handing the MXdN spots out as favors and then our arrogance is going to eventually bite us in the ass. Europe is sick of losing.

But I dont think Mike would let us down.

I'd say they should consider him for PR for sure.

He was still pretty banged up last year and he won at the GD national. This year he's healthy and put on a total clinic.

I think Goreke said somewhere in an interview that Gopher Dunes is the toughest sand track he's ever raced. That's coming from a guy who's won Southwick.

I think he has a shot at it. If he stays consistent with his results he should at least be in the mix. He should get the nod over Stewart.

Mike would need to leave Tony out of the equation though, if he is involved then I don't think they will take him. He might be too disruptive to the effort.

If the series ends the way it stands today then Dungey, Alessi, and Baggett should go.

I say give him a shot. Might not be the most beloved, but he's been puttin the wood to all but Dungey most of the time outdoors, and was greatly improved in SX.

Even though Mike is riding good this year, I don't think he could handle the pressure of an event that big. When has he ever come out on top in a pressured situation (Tedesco fiasco)? If Stew comes out in Southwick and riders good, it should be Dungey, Stewart, and Bagget, and if not put Barcia in the open class. Alessi is to much of a question mark in my opinion.
