Dakar takes a lot of it. Offroad program is huge for KTM. When you split it all up .... You know what, it`s A LOT of money any way you put it.

It's easier to trim the weight off the 450sx & 350sx, than it is with any other bike. Lighter batteries can save you almost 3 lbs alone. KTM has gotten pretty good at listening to complaints. From what I've seen the KTMs are dropping weight (of course these are manufacturer claims), KTM claims to be the lightest & has electric start:

2012 350sx = 229 lbs
2012 450sx = 235 lbs
2012 cr450 = 238 lbs
2012 yz450f = 245 lbs
2012 kx450f = 249 lbs
2012 rmz450 = 249 lbs

We keep hearing about how great the KTM 350 is, but the results speak for themselves. They may have it together in the GP's, but here in the states, the bikes are not working as good as the 450's from Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kawasaki.

I don't believe that Dungey will go to KTM, but if he does that would be a big mistake in my opinion. Not even Roger can get that 350 to compete with 450's. I see no reason why Dungey won't stay at Suzuki since it's a good team with a good bike. I think Dungey is more career minded and less money motivated.

KTM's weight is dry weight listed here, the others are curb weight (full tank).

You're right, with fuel, only the crf would be lighter - I don't think you can count on any manufacturer claims anyway. Change the battery & they would be essentially the same weight. It doesn't look to me like they got the same changes to the cases that the EXC's got - the 450EXC engine dropped 6 lbs. Maybe they already had the changes, maybe the EXC is a test bed. Don't really know - but my guess is they will shed more weight than any other manufacturer in the next couple years.

but for the record, dealer meetings and dealer reps are like the worst place to get info from. havent we seen more crap stories here come from someone who "heard from a dealer rep" than just about any other source of info?

Right now there are really only 3 (4 with JS7) guys capable of winning an outdoor right now,put any of them on Orange with their effort and they'd be in the same position but there's no chance of doing that when they are unproven yet,with all due respect they could only sign riders on the next level,

KTM has worked in Europe, and will work in the US,sure theyll win a title soon but they need a pilot capable of pulling it off

and his mom and dad are more intuitive and intelligent when it comes to the sport than most people and i would hope they can see the inadequacies with the ktm compared to the others. that is my opinion anyways and i could be wrong.

I really hope Dungey stays with rockstar/makita suzuki, as many would assume that he would struggle on a GayTM. Plus, i thought Dungey recently signed a multi-year deal for 'his own' rockstar/fox gear? If that is the case then wouldn't a deal with redbull GayTM be impossible?

Short was 1.05 behind in Moto 1 and 1.55 back (from 2nd placed RV) in Moto 2,I'm pretty sure Dungey would finish better than that on the 350 but if he went with them my guess is he'd choose the 450,he's amazing on the big bike

Perhaps that`s how Brooks is trying to sign Dungey. Just buzz in his ear all the time how he`s his own man and he doesn`t need Decoster and Decoster is riding on Dungey`s success. I`ve seen shit like this a hundreds of times.
