Everything is down, races around CA are way down.
S
Mostly because I'm currently moving and all.
But I prob would have been there if Jason was racing.....

1. gas prices/recession
2. No RC
3. Obvious Stewart win (see no. 2)
4. THE DATE CHANGE!- I heard from somebody in the local industry that a bunch of people showed up on Father's Day at Budds! Have no idea if this is true, but it has been held on Father's Day since 1989.
Budds seems to be a really good track for him.
I'm going to the Moto GP this week and I am really curious there. They seemed down a bit last year as well.
I just hate it when he shows up at my home track and makes me look stupid. Damion Plotts too.
Its ok though I already knew I wasn't that good.
I try though.
1. Compared to the standing room only of the MXoN, any crowd is going to look less.
2. The shaded hillside to the left of the start was reserved for VIP's at the MXoN. It was open to all at the National. He pointed to the packed hillside and said "try to picture all those people moved over there".
3. JB cleared a large area (I'm guessing 20+ acres) for the MXoN and 10 to 15 more since. There's a lot more parking and camping space available inside the park. The cars and campers missing from the surrounding farmer's fields are now inside.
4. TV coverage was the last moto of the day. All but a few hardcore fans left the fence lines for some shade after 5+ hrs in the beating sun and draining humidity. There's also the "beat the rush" crowd that began to trickle out after JS grabbed the lead and pulled another disappearing act. Too Bad...the Red Dog/Short and especially the Byrne/Copper battles were some great racing. Millsaps added some early excitement until a crash took him out of the mix.
Considering the current economic mood, and high gas prices, I'd say attendance was as good or better than could be expected. Outdoor MX is alive and well in Southern Maryland. We now return you to the regularly scheduled personal spin agendas.
Trust me, attendence was down this year - not by a whole lot, but it was down from other years.
5. Bring back the qualifying races! At High Point after Sunday's timed practice there was one 4 lap consi race for the 450's and that was over by 10:45 a.m. From that time till the opening ceremonies started at 12:30 we sat there while some bad cover band played on a make up stage. The good old days had qualifiers all the way up to the first moto. Bring back the racing, screw the timed qualifying and leave the rock stars at home.
No promoter wants to admit attendance is down.
Why is so hard to admit attendance was down? Are track owners really afraid of losing their race?
Pit Row
We already know that the AMA/Whitelock specifically has been pumping up the National numbers for years, can't sell sponsorships to car manufacturers with weak numbers and not really have a good TV package to boot.
No matter what people say or think, the numbers have to be down this year, just for the economy and gas prices alone. I live in Orange County, I use to go to LA once a week to hang with friends etc, not anymore, it’s just too expensive to be frivolous with gas prices.
S
1) Lack of competition
2) waited to late to book a room and their was nothing available close.
3) High gas prices
Ok call me a biotch if you want, but here's what happened.
I've raced the first two rounds of the Lucky 7 series. First time back to Milestone was for round one. Had to re-new the membership. So I am in the little shack type room with my two kids. I get told it's 35 and then an extra ten bucks for the gate fee for the race. Ok, seems pretty normal, we got there at 3 the first race, cause I had to fix both the 50 and the 110. Practice starts at 7. Just so were clear, I paid 45 bucks to get the membership and 10 buck gate fee. Wife and kids were no charge. From what I was told if we were there before 5 just the racer paid the gate fee.
Round two, pretty much the same thing. Ten bucks at the gate for me, my wife and kids were no charge, cause again we were there well before 5.
Race fee ended 70 bucks for two classes, both races, when the web site for Podium says second class is 25 bucks. So on the web site, it's 40 for the first class and 25 for the second. Whatever it's five bucks, just a crappy thing to do, web site says one thing and when your there it's different.
That brings us to today. Round three, Get there at 4, cause I have more flat tires to change. Get to the gate, let her know what I'm there for. She says ok it's 20 bucks. So I just question it, and let her know we've been to the last two rounds and it was only ten. She's having none of it and tells me it's always been 10 per person no matter what time you get there. If your racing, everyone with you pays ten bucks. She then notices my two kids and says it's 40. I try to explain myself, again. Told her I didn't bring that much money, cause the last two races, it was just 10 to get in.
Now she is arguing with me about how I didn't pay just the ten bucks, I paid 40, cause all the 4 girls who work the booth knows the rules. So obviously I'm getting nowhere. So I ask to talk the manager. What a mistake that turned out to be. I now have a line of trucks in back of me, so I tell her, I'll just pull over to the side and wait for the manager. She says the people in back can wait. Ok, so I stay put.
In talking with the manager, I get nowhere with him either. I tried to explain to him what's happened the last two races at the gate. He said the girls made a mistake. I tell him I called today and asked if it was after 4 or 5 they start charging for all spectators. I thought it was four, my wife said 5, so I called and was told it was 5.
I tell him I don't have enough money to pay for racing two classes and the forty dollar gate fee. He didn't seem to care, and said Heather (from Podium)doesn't pay Milestone anything, that all their money from the race comes from just the gate fee. Seems to me Podium should be paying something to the track? I tell him I am here regularly with my big bike, so do we really want to be arguing over a gate fee for a pit bike race? Turns out I guess we did.
Now I want my membership money back. A little more arguing, and they agree to give me my membership money back. So I am through spending money there.
If you add up what the cost would be to race all seven rounds, it would cost me 770.00 bucks. Maybe Milestone doesn't know how the economy is right now? For that much money, I can get 4 season long passes to Disneyland, with parking. That's not even the cheapest tickets either.
Twenty four total race laps, plus 10 minutes of practice, and it would of cost me 110.00. Some how I can't justify that.
Before I asked for my membership money back, I gave them a situation that I thought I might be in. I asked them if I came at say 9am with my big bike and my pit bikes on the next pit bike race day, how much it would be? I was thinking I could just make a day out of it. Manager told me if we were over at the pit bike race track, and didn't have a bracelet, we would either be charged for them, or be asked to leave the race track area.
Ok, so that's my rant, take it for what it is. It's really not that big of a deal to me. Most my friends who ride, never renewed their memberships there anyway. So I always went alone to practice days.
Plenty of other tracks to play on.
Carsten get 40TH qualifying position, yet finishes 21st in M2. That fastest times are not necessarily the fastest Motocross riders. Granted, there were only about 30 finishers, but still.
Real boss? Who would that be?
In this dirty old part of the city
Where the sun refused to shine
People tell me there ain't no use in tryin'
Now my girl you're so young and pretty
And one thing I know is true
You'll be dead before your time is due, I know
Watch my daddy in bed a-dyin'
Watched his hair been turnin' grey
He's been workin' and slavin' his life away
Oh yes I know it
(Yeah!) He's been workin' so hard
(Yeah!) I've been workin' too, baby
(Yeah!) Every night and day
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!)
We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
'cause girl, there's a better life for me and you
Now my girl you're so young and pretty
And one thing I know is true, yeah
You'll be dead before your time is due, I know it
Watch my daddy in bed a-dyin'
Watched his hair been turnin' grey, yeah
He's been workin' and slavin' his life away
I know he's been workin' so hard
(Yeah!) I've been workin' too, baby
(Yeah!) Every day baby
(Yeah!) Whoa!
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!)
We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
Girl, there's a better life for me and you
Somewhere baby, somehow I know it
We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
Girl, there's a better life for me and you
Believe me baby
I know it baby
You know it too
I'll take my racing money to Frank and REM.
But logic would tell me attendance will be down a bit at all nationals just because of the economy. People don't have the disposable income they used to have.
