... And had the pick of the showroom for any MX bike, but under one condition, you had to keep it for 5 years what would you choose and why?

You also know what you know today, about the MX market. After the 5 years of riding and maintaining your bike of choice you can either sell it or keep it. Just is fun to think if I could do it over again what bike(s) I would buy.

As an added bonus, what would be the last bike you would buy knowing how things played out after 5 years?

I did this exact thing in 2007 and still have the same bike. I'm going to ride it till the wheels fall off. If I had the opportunity to do it again I'd buy the same damn bike...a 07 SX250. I was sick of the 250f I bought blowing up.

I would walk out and wait until 2008 and buy a CRF450 like I did. Doubted my 05 CRF450 would last but it did and life was good. 07 was not a great year for any mcf.

2007 CRF 450 was and still is very nice. If I had to go two stroke couldn't go wrong with the yz 250.

So I had a 2005 CRF450 and loved it but not great turning bike.

Bought a 2007 YZF450 brand new and hated how that bike turned and got rid of it in short order (4 months)- worst bike ever I feel for Yamaha.

Bought a 2008 CRF450 and was incredible bike just a bit rough in the forks on high speed chop but that was an incredible bike.

Honda CR 250-07. It is in my garage. Ready to race w prepped engine and suspension, standardhubs w a60 etc.A keeper. Can't even count how many want to buy it. It costed more than a brand new 450 to build.Wink

2007 RM 250, with a little suspension work and performance parts, a good bike. If I had the money I would keep it and purchase a 2013 250 SX, suspension work, 300 kit, and electric start.

2007 KX450 best bike i've ever had until i got my 2012, but then again that was before a collarbone, hand and wrist and 4 knee surgeries. and about 5 concussions so i rode much harder (and better) back then.

KX250 or KX125 I have been looking for one or both for a while now. I think 05 was the last year for the Kawi one two five though.

I would upgrade my 05 KX 250 to an 07 and have double the spare parts.

+1

Waited till 08 and bought a leftover 07 CRF450. Fantastic bike. Still have it, and running strong. 2 top ends later, 140+ hours. Planning on getting TTX inserts and a shock, or finding some B kit. Then Ill run it another 2-3 seasons.

It would be a 2 stroke if I were keeping it around for 5 years. Tie between a 07 RM250 and 07 YZ250.

I would not buy the '97 CR125 I did. I would have just went ahead and got a KTM and saved myself a lot of money on shitty Japanese bikes.

If you were a racer that wanted the best race bike in the 450 class and you didnt buy the CRF450R something was wrong with you, they tuned down the engine in 2008 by messing with the timing in first and second gear, the fastest Honda 450 ever made.

Pretty interesting. seems like it would depreciate too much to make it worth getting a new one every year. just throw some fresh parts at it and run it. I bought a 2006 YZ250 last year and ride the heck out of it. love it, and also love how cheap it is to rebuild. Is that your bike in your sig?
